Help! / FFT Lions War - Please help with starting Cloud

Forgive me I'm new to all this. Spent most of the day figuring out how to install EMUDeck on my steam deck, following the instructions here to patch a .bin of FFT psx with Lions War, installing KDE to modify a .txt to make a cheat table on my PC and send it to my steam decks linux desktop...
I'm really trying. I found several gameshark codes and even tables to make my own codes to put Cloud in my starting party...
But now if I hit a story event in Lions War all the sprites are in weird spots and the dialogue boxes are in the corner of the screen and the game loops. I can't progress with Cloud in party.
I see there are ways to hack the .iso but this is all new to me. I've spent hours searching this forum and can't figure it out.
Can anyone help me make it so I can play Lions War PSX on Steam Deck with Cloud in my party from start?
