Yeah, I'm putting my money where my mouth is and giving it a shot, making it myself! :D

Gonna have moogle black mages have weaker versions of the elemental spells, but they're missile spells, like Fire in Kingdom Hearts 1.  So like, Lv1 hits a single target at gun range, and the higher tier is a cone at gun range.  Gonna lean into the redmage feel for Viera by giving the Viera White Mage a Banish spell line.

This is gonna be fun :D

Changing a jobs race doesn't seem to affect it as long as the sprites match, i.e hume fencer with viera sprites.

I know this is a bit of necromancy, but I have a related question regarding animations.  Is there a similar issue as the piercing weapons with other weapon types, such as guns or hand cannons?

If I give Luso a gun or Hurdy a bow, will it freeze the game?

FFTA/FFTA2 Hacking / State of FFTA2 Editors?
January 30, 2025, 11:50:42 am
I've been kind of interested in looking into creating a mod of FFTA2 myself, and I was curious as to what the current state of FFTA2 editors are and what their capabilities are.  For example, are we able to create new abilities, or only edit abilities that are already there?  Can we add new sprites to the game for new jobs, or are we limited to reskinning existing classes?  When looking up the various editors, a lot of them are from like, a decade ago so I'm not sure what progress has been made in the meantime or if they've been succeeded by later editors in the time since the stickies were made.

Personally, I wanna see a mod that causes different races with the same job learn different things to help make them a bit different - kinda like how Hume's Soldier and Bangaa's Warrior kinda feel like variants of the same job performed by different races.

Like, how does the White Mage of Hume, Viera, and Nu Mou differ?  How might the approach to black magic that Humes, Nu Mou, and Moogles change?  It'd be neat to see variations that encourage you to bring different units into battle.

Edit:  lol I completely misunderstood this topic.  Yeah, this is something I'd like to know more - what would people recommend as a an example of a good mod for FFTA2.

Personally, I am of the opinion that trying to balance a Build-Based SRPG like FFTA or TO is the wrong mindset.  Rein things in a bit?  Sure, but making everything perfectly balanced risks making player choices irrelevant.  Why bother going for strong combination when it doesn't exist, or will be patched out in the next update?

No, the answer isn't to enforce "Balance" imo - rather, it's to avoid the "one build to rule them all".  You don't want any option to be too overpowering, and you do so by giving it competition.  All things have opportunity cost - do you go for a Geomancy Paravir, a Dual Wield Magick Frenzy Illusionist, or one of the six other strong combos found in this mod that are on par with them?  You can't bring them all, and that's just for Humes.

Take those strong combos and give them legit challenges - new maps and situations where it's not enough to being in any old nuke of a unit - you need to make sure you have the right ones.  Disgaea does this with Baal - a postgame boss that more or less demands you bring out your broken combo units.

Ultimately, the goal should be to make things interesting and to reward the player for coming up with strong combos.  If they played your mod from beginning to end, they deserve to find combinations that just do amazing things.

If you want perfect balance, checkers is over there.  No, not chess.  We all know the Queen is OP as hell and needs to be nerfed into the ground.

I just have a couple questions, wanting to make sure I installed this correctly.

Is the equipment in the shop supposed to all hover between 1350-1500 gil, regardless of what stats or skills they provide?  And are most equipment not usually teaching anything supposed to teach an alchemist something, even when the alchemist can't normally equip them, such as the case of most mythril weapons?

I worry I may have installed it wrong since there's weirdly little monetary progression/scaling in the shop and the weird alchemist thing is on the equipment.

Apart from those oddities, I like it so far.

Edit: Oh dear, it's been a year and a half since even the unofficial bugfix up above... And the original creator hasn't been online in 5 years... this is abandonware, isn't it?  It seemed so promising too - was kinda hoping for a One Vision style mod, but for FFTA.
