Spriting / Re: Time Lord Sprite

It kinda looks like the "face" is hanging out of the hood, when it should be hidden in the depths of the hood.

And maybe make the part around the neck look less like a mini-cape, and more like the neck protector of a flak vest - the point being that the protective part goes around the back of the neck, the sides, and the front, and the hat sort of settles on top of that.

Quote from: Dominic NY18 on May 05, 2012, 12:50:03 amThen again, considering the way they act at some points in the game (outside of Gongaga and the Wutai sidequest come to mind), they still sometimes come off as comic relief.

Yeah, but it's more like institutional jack-assery than them being screw-ups.  Somewhat like the crap that infantry soldiers, Secret Service agents, and other such elite units get into when they have lots of stand-by time, and of course everyone's talking about everyone else behind their back.

Their drinking habits (and the seriousness with which they take their drinking) reinforces this theory, I think.

They just seem like normal guys (and a gal), working an extraordinary job.  Even their catch phrases ("That's the will and spirit of the Turks!" and "Believe it") demonstrate that they are extraordinary by what they do, not in and of themselves.

On topic:
In writing, anything which distracts from the story must go.  It doesn't matter that you fucking love your witty dialog; if people notice the dialog, then they missed the story, and your conceit is the reason why.  I say that the extraneous wordplay is distracting and needs to go.

Spam / Sweet new patch idea

No game mechanics changed, just run the entire game through the English -> 12 year old AOLer translator, and re-insert the text back into the game.

IIRC, the Turks were going to be comedy relief in FF7 (like Biggs and Wedge in FF8), but they ended up being kinda badass too.  I think that was one mistake that was a good thing.

Go read Alex Smith's VS script.  It has some old English thrown in once in a while to spice things up, but that's it.  It's nothing compared to the sludge of archaic poetry you have to wade through in WOTL, before it clicks and you vaguely understand what someone's trying to say.

Tom Slattery tried to mimic Alex Smith, and he failed completely.  While PS1 FFT doesn't make much sense at times because it was poorly translated, WOTL makes about the same amount of sense because Tom Slattery sucks dicks.

Reactive = the vanilla reactions, like Counter, HP Restore, and Vanilla Speed Save
Conditional = my versions of PA/MA/SP save, which gives a static boost to a stat as long as the conditions for that boost are met (low HP)
Passive = Abandon, Weapon Guard/Parry, and all the rest of the supports

Quote from: Dome on May 02, 2012, 03:28:35 amCan we move this to spam please?

This belongs in help, or hacking.  It doesn't belong in suggestions.  It isn't trolling (or at least it's not a very good attempt at trolling).  Let this guy make one more topic, and if it's as stupid as this one, THEN this belongs in spam.

Suggestions is about the site itself - SMF or MediaWiki stuff.  It's not about "The state of the community", we had enough of those from Voldemort to last a lifetime.

Quote from: The Damned on May 02, 2012, 12:55:23 am1. Given my (very minor) "grievance" with Abandon and other evasion-related "reactions", I was wondering if those abilities would still function the same as Supports as exactly as they are now. I still don't really understand why they're reactions and it occurred to me that one of my newer ideas--perhaps combining Arrow Guard with Catch and Throw Item--further blurs that line of Reaction and Support. (Ignore the fact that it's probably a stupid idea and that I don't have Throw around yet/still/anymore.)

Instead of thinking of it in broad terms of Reaction, Support, and Movement, think of them in terms of their actual effects (many R/S/Ms have several effects), and categorize these effects as:
*Reactive (activates once in response to certain stimuli)
*Conditional (a passive effect, which is turned on only when certain conditions are met, but does not respond to stimuli beyond the conditions required to turn it on - ie, it responds to conditions, not stimuli)
*Passive (on all the time)

Break every effect of every R/S/M (including those on your wish list) along these terms, and you will have a much easier time thinking about them.

Since so many R/S/Ms combine often combine Reactive, Conditional, and Passive effects, I intend to let the Reaction Slot allow Reactions and Supports, and the Movement Slot allow Movements and Supports.  It's either that, or flag every ability as Reactive, Conditional, and Passive, and have only one slot for each.

Or maybe make some kind of crap where you can only have one Reactive and once Conditional equipped at any one time, but all three slots can equip any RCP (R/S/M, whatever).  So you can run one Reactive and two Passives, or 3 Passives, or one Reactive and one Conditional and one Passive, or one Conditional and two Passives.

Quote from: The Damned on May 02, 2012, 12:55:23 am2. Would there be any objection to combining Short Charge and Half of MP if they were both reduced by half effectiveness to about 75% and caused the spell/ability used to also become about a quarter less-effective? Too much one way or the other just in idea alone? (I realize this is difficult to assess in a vacuum.)

It's exactly the opposite of Double MP.  Halve MP, with an additional "cost" being reduced - the cost of spell CT.  It sounds like a good idea, but you may want to make Double MP increase CT slightly.  I personally would never use either of these ideas, and I'd especially never implement both of them, because what if the AI uses both of them?

Comment: This is awesome!

Off-Topic: Do those hacks work, bug-free?  Because that's awesome.

I like where this thread is going!

Could you have an ability that adds invite, and then is hard-coded to some event scripting that teleports the monster out of battle?  And make the ability only work on enemies that are ID'd as Generic Monsters?  0x82, IIRC.

And have a "Require Pokeball Accessory" as a requirement.

1. Build time machine.
2. Go back in time.
3. Make Tom Slattery learn French instead of Japanese.
4. ???
5. Profit.

Attached is the FrankenPack for Orcs.  I have doubts about their usefulness to FFT or Tethical spriters, but at least they're GPL.

The Lounge / Re: The spam board

Other - I find it interesting sometimes, but I still think it should be gone.

Random Question: Would "I love the spam board, it's they main reason why I am on FFH" result in a ban?
79
I think that Eternal means you display Red if there's a conflict (no "Randomly Present"), and then display another color if they're on the same tile, and there's no conflict - just so he can know the maximum possible number of enemies in a battle.
