Help! / Re: Text gets screwed up after editing.
March 06, 2014, 03:14:13 am
I'm not sure what was causing the weird line things, but after messing around with it a bit it went away. So I'm going to go ahead and mark this topic as solved. :)

I downloaded the .457 version and repatched, it still had the same issue. Might have been pure chance but it did seem like it took longer to screw up though.

EDIT:

Seems that the cause was just the text in the descriptions of items being too long, and in the case of the main problem item it happened because I did the next line command improperly.

A bit stumped as to what's up with this though:

Help! / Text gets screwed up after editing.
March 05, 2014, 10:55:52 pm
Lately I went through changing the names and descriptions of various pieces of weapons and armor, using fftactext. I went into the game to take a look at the results... I checked a few, and all was well at first. But then one of their descriptions wouldn't pop up when I pressed select...

I tried the next one on the list... it didn't work either, so I went back and tried the first one (which had worked the first time), and found it still displayed. So I moved onto a different item... I pressed select and nothing happened. I returned to the first item again... this time it wouldn't display either. Next thing I know, all the text everywhere in the menus are screwed up.

Is this something that's understood? What is the cause of it? Can it be prevented?

Yeah, somehow some of the files in the EasyVent directory got moved. It works fine now.

I'm attempting to decompile TEST.EVT in EasyVent Editor Super Perfect (v1.91), but when I do the program crashes and spits out this error:

Help! / Re: Is there a way to edit zodiac signs?

When I open FRAME.BIN in tilemolester, the graphics end up being monochrome. Is that how it is supposed to look?

Is there a way to edit the zodiac signs? The names and the graphics for their symbols?

Is it at all possible? If it is... how would I go about doing it?

Spriting / Re: Male Knight with Pointy Elf Ears
February 19, 2014, 03:47:45 pm
As part of this update post I'm combining together the content of some of the last few posts. (And deleting those old posts)

So far, I have completed three versions of the the knight. The "Hylian", the "Elven", and the "Altmer" versions. Additionally I have "Dunmer", and "Drow" portraits but they do not yet have corresponding spritesheets. Most recently improved the dunmer sprite.

Spriting / Male Knight with Pointy Elf Ears
February 11, 2014, 06:41:49 pm
It's not exactly impressive I know... but I gave pointy ears to this male knight. Does it look any good?
70
Success! I got it to import without any errors. Clearly I have a lot to learn to figure this out... since his hair turned blue when I imported. But yay! it worked :D Thanks for the help!

Edit: Sorry for posting this in the Tutorials subforum and not under Help. Didn't notice that I'd done that until I came back and couldn't find the thread.
71
It is? Dang... I guess I don't know what I'm doing then.
72
Sure I'll attach it.  I was attempting to make a dark haired version of the knight.

Edit: seems that when I was converting it back and forth trying to get it to work, I messed up the image a bit. Oops... Not exactly presentable looking.
73
Okay that's good to know, thanks. I switched it back to 256 colors... but I'm still getting the same errors.
74
Decided to try out modding a sprite... it's indexed... 16 colors... it's a bmp... but I'm getting a whole ton of errors when I attempt to import. Is there a simple list of what exactly is needed for the image to be compatible?

I'm attaching an image of the error message too.

Help! / Re: Changing Ramza's sex?
March 04, 2013, 10:47:48 am
Thank you very much. I did as noted and it worked. Though it seems I have to start a new game for it to come into effect. Is there a way to change it for a game that's already in progress?

Edit: I'm using running an image in epsxe

The date modified on the TEST.EVT file does update when I compile.

Help! / Re: How do you change dialogue?

I clearly have no idea what I'm doing, since I don't actually know what offset does. I didn't notice any explanation in the tutorial - maybe I missed it. At this point I don't really have an event, all I did was modify the text to change a word merely to see if it would change.

Help! / Re: How do you change dialogue?

Well... apparently I'm terrible at following directions. I missed a step. Turns out I never actually decompiled TEST. Now that I have, I can open the text file and see the text that is supposed to be there. However, the timestamp for TEST never changes when I try to import it using CDmage, and nothing has changed when I run the game.

Help! / Changing Ramza's sex?
March 03, 2013, 09:51:10 am
I thought it'd be easy... but I can't figure out how. I assume it is something you have to change in the ASM stuff? Is there an easier way to do it? (As in something I can do with a utility in plain text rather then puzzling over hexidecimal stuff and being generally confused?)

Help! / Re: How do you change dialogue?
March 03, 2013, 08:19:39 am
Well, CDmage I attempted to, and CDmage's little bar filled up and such indicating it finished. Though The date on the file in the image didn't change to the same one as the file I edited. Does that mean it didn't work?

Regardless, I don't think it's going to have any effect, since the dialogue I attempted to edit, is not identical to what is being displayed. For example it says "Sinful children of Ivalice" while in game it says "Wayward children of Ivalice".
