You can always produce some test samples of script form this scene if you like. Get people thinking about ways to approach these characters. I have always wonder if it would be a better writing process to have different people write the dialog for specific characters.

Playing Dark Souls and FFXIV  :D

How is FFXIV shaping up? I played XI for a relatively short while, but I have heard nothing good about IV thus far.

FFT: Parted Ways / Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites

This error can actually be caused by emulators, as it reads the file one pixel off. However, it is easily fixed by putting an additional horizontal line of the background color. I believe this doesn't interfere with any other animations. Alternatively you can make the portrait background color equivalent to the solid black of the sprite sheet.

Apparently Odin Sphere is coming to the PSN as one of the first PS2 downloadable games. Though I'm sure my playthrough diary hasn't been too inspiring, if you want to see probably the best 2D graphics ever you should check it out.

"You might"? On no, I know you can't resist Halloween zombies haha.

All questions belong in the "Help" section if you can find an existing thread to place them in. This thread will be moved there and hopefully you will receive a good answer.

Both would be excellent additions to FFT.

Decade of the Zombie:

Halloween is approaching, and one of my favorite parts of the holiday (now that I'm not allowed to go tricker-treating) is the annual FFH Halloween Spriting Competition. The theme of this particular competition is Zombies, and this is for a number of reasons. First, because Halloween is the zombie time of year. Second, because FFT currently lacks an actual generic zombie sprite (no Zalbagg doesn't count). Third and most importantly, because zombies have completely taken over the US. There are tv shows, shirts, blow up dolls, underwear, freaking everything. I feel like this all started about 8 or 9 years ago and things have turned into zombie feeding frenzy of marketing. I'm guessing that in about 1 year though the market will be so saturated that there will be a major backlash and zombies will stumble and moan back into obscurity. So while I'm sure we are all pretty sick of zombies, I say we finish out the Decade of the Zombie with a bang.

For a low tier entry in this competition I would recommend taking your favorite character or class, and zombiefying them. Zombie Zalbagg would be the most piss poor example of this, and I expect better from our community. Rotting flesh, exposed bone, and all kinds of other decay are encouraged. More intrepid spriters may attempt a full on zombie, completely unrecognizable from it's base class. Plus, don't forget that humans aren't the only living things that can be zombiefied. Similarly undead demons such as vampires, skeletons, and the such would also work. The theme may seem limiting, but as always creativity and stretching the bounds of the theme are encouraged.

This is once again a beginner's level spriting competition and even if you have no spriting experience this is a great chance to give it a try. Feel free to post multiple versions of the same entry to get feedback and improve upon it, just insure that the final version meets all Submission Requirements. See the contest thread in the Spriting Section for official rules and additional details.

Just going for the really traditional and plain Red Mage hat. The feather shouldn't be quite this big likely though. So good to have you back Jimmy.

This is once again a beginner's level spriting competition and even if you have no spriting experience this is a great chance to give it a try. Feel free to post multiple versions of the same entry to get feedback and improve upon it, just insure that the final version meets all Submission Requirements.

Submissions are due by midnight of the 27th of October. On the 28th all entries will be organized and a public voting poll will be opened for every community member to cast a vote. The poll will have a clearly indicated end time of the 31st to celebrate Halloween. The poll will be blinded and all users are allowed one vote, please respect the voting process.

Exact awards for the top three entrants are still in development. Expect at minimum some kind of permanent recognition for your accomplishments. Do not expect a particularly tangible award, such as something you would receive by mail.

Submission Requirements:
1) A minimum of 1 front diagonal frame.
2) A name for your monster.
3) Cite all sources used including the name of the source sprite and the original artist. Reference "SQUARE" for all original FFT sprites.
4) 100% Zoom in either BMP or PNG format.
5) Post your submission in this thread and it will be officially entered.
6) Loosely follow the general FFT style such as dimensions and palette choice. However, submissions are NOT limited to 16 colors.
7) Submissions need to loosely follow the general competition topic.
8) Follow general forum rules, such as no nudity.
9) There is NO limit on the number of entries per member as long as they are significantly distinct.
10) If there are multiple valid versions of the same submission posted in the thread, the latest version will be considered the competition version.

Judging Criteria:
1) Creativity: This covers both the monster idea and the physical design of the sprite. Find original, intelligent, and witty ways to follow the general theme of the contest.
2) Artistic Ability: The more original elements incorporated into the sprite the better. However, make sure to balance this with the visual quality of the sprite. General pixel art ability, design, and palette choice are important here.
3) Valid Submission: There are clear expectations for submission, please try your best to follow them.

Important Dates:
Opening of Competition: 10/3
Submissions Due: Midnight 10/28
Voting Begins: 10/29
Winners Announced: 10/31 Halloween

1) Zombie Behemot
by Wolfran

2) Vampire

I like that you are doing this Zoz. The third version is certainly the best.

PS: I'm hoping to do some improvements to my male Red Mage sprite. But can someone please update the portrait or at least give him a new hat haha.

Your improvements were good Kage, I think Jimmy's latest attempt is definitely going to do the trick.

I feel like I'm waiting to play the Disgaea series till I'm like 50 and the genera of Tactical RPGs no longer exists, and then to drown my sorrows I will spend the rest of my life playing this series in a couple hours spurts each week.

His face looks like it needs to be a pixel wider. Something is still up with the shoulders and chest. Odd pillow shading on the right breast. His shoulders are still too narrow or something.

I am now through the storyline of the first three of five characters in Odin Sphere, about 20 hrs of gameplay. Still loving this game, and the story of the different characters. I also like that I'm finding new ways to build my characters more effeciently each playthrough. Maybe it will get repetitive by the fifth time through, but not yet.

I'm also just starting Chapter IV of Tactics Ogre. I am amazed that I am already 40 hrs into the game and I really having been building up my team level grinding or anything and just going through the story pretty quickly. Still an amazing game, I will probably spend a considerable amount of time going back through the different sections and changing up my team a bit once I finish the main story. I want to see this game combined with FFT's job system, I would be in heaven.

I have also been playing Dead Nation online coop with a friend over PSN. Good times. No iPhone games have captured my attention lately.

1) Limiting the length is in regards to the amount of dialog, either by adding more back in forth or the dialog itself being long. Feel free to add as much stage direction as you would like as long as you aren't requesting over the top stuff. Also note that the event editor may have a large role in this aspect as well.
2) We will likely use the Zodiac stone graphics to represent the materia, maybe shrink them a little, but they will be larger than marbles. This is more to make them visible than to stick to any specific canon.
3) Interesting point. I would recommend having Besrudio comment about the power of materia very briefly, to indicate that Cid or Barret have previously explained it to him. Also to jog the memory of the player. One of the events following this one actually explains the role Materia will play in the FFT game. So brief is the key in this scene.

Good questions and good luck.
