Journey of the Five Ch.1 / Re: Can't wait :_:
December 11, 2015, 09:09:41 pm
So as video games go I was looking forward to some things. One was Americana Dawn and they haven't updated in months and I'm pretty sure the creator has giving up on it after a failed kickstarter. Then there are some steam games that I'am waiting to go on sale (Darkest Dungeon, Telepath Tactics, The Curious Expediton, Shelter 2 and Catacomb Kids) and since they are not I'm starting to think they are lame (probably because I keep looking at them so much) and not as interested as when they first came out.

So I'am just writing this to say Journey of the Five is the most anticipated game for me this year and for next year and will be a must play for me when it comes out (I have been checking the site on a daily basis and am still not bored or tired of waiting). I have been a gamer since the 80's; since Atari and Journey of the Five is the must play for any FFTactics fan for the superb story line, gameplay and difficulty that the creators took the time, dedication and knowledge to make. I can't think of any game pending that comes close to the hype I have for this game and best wishes to the creators and community of FFhacktics.com for all the support and input they have given over the course of development. Keep up the great work in 2016, thank you.

Journey of the Five Ch.1 / Re: Suggestions

Cloud was definitely someone I had to put some extra effort into to figure out. And as I said before I like Link as an Archer/Mage but I would also like to see him get a sword skill or two just to make me want to use equip change more, maybe have that full life beam attack even if you cant make it look just right.

Something I would really like to see is the 5 getting new skills as chapters progress like the way Ramza got new abilities in the original game.

The Lounge / Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Announced

All things being aside, Mad props to Jet (Blu Billingslea) for being the voice of Barrett. I kind of like the exploration part of what I saw with the original being sparse but that combat just seems basic. However I do find exploring in 3D tedious as all hell.

Not having room for a console is a concept I don't understand.

Yeah I'm coming to your house from now on. I have probably half of that on my laptop.  :D

Anyway there is a new FF7 trailer and it looks cool and all but i'm not a big fan of action rpgs because I feel like developers haven't really found a way to make the combat too fun. I feel like it becomes repetitive fast and in the end I either end up spamming the same 4 combos over and over or just button mashing after I dodge something. Now that doesn't sound much better than conventional rpgs where your just hitting the same button to choose from a menu but I really want developers to put more effort into action games so they don't feel repetitive 3-4 hours in.

I do like games like Ninja Gaiden where the fun came in the form of increased difficulty mixed with different weapons and styles and I feel the game with the best combat in recent years comes from Dragons Dogma especially when playing as the fighter. Quick movements mixed with improved difficulty and a constant variety of enemies or at least enemy behavior seems to be a good way to cut down on repetitiveness but I don't expect much from Squeenix to go the extra mile to make the game play stand out. I feel like that company is just shooting for the lowest common denominator as of late and all I was looking for in a FF7 remake was basically the same game with nice graphics and the like. It might seem like they aren't shooting for the lowest common denominator by taking a new approach but you have to keep in mind they have that engine they are using for FF15 where they seem to just recycle it for the remake. They will probably enhance it a bit but in the end I doubt there will be much difference between 15 and 7 remake in terms of game play.

I really hope the game succeeds and doesn't seem like a 15 sister game because quite frankly I have no interest in FF15. I don't look to Final Fantasy to do what everyone else does but instead to lead the way in either game play like they did by first introducing the ATB system or in terms of story as seen in main steam Final Fantasies and Tactics. For me the future of action games lies with the Fox Engine that Konami has. Never before have I seen an action game capable of so many different things to so many different sensitivities as Metal Gear Solid 5 and they need to license the Fox Engine out to other companies in order to make new ground breaking games.

Sorry for the stall. My laptop asploded, and then my phone (my source of internet) asploded, and Elric's had real life happen to him, so it's been a busy and painful month without progress on chapter 2. It'll pick back up, none of us have anywhere to go for Christmas, but we really did lose a month's worth of work thanks to me and life. Sorry all.

*Bows deeply for forgiveness*

Got to do what you got to do, it's cool we can wait. Hope everything is alright.

I also check the site like everyday when I can and will jump on Jot5 when its done.

As for Delita, he's not really a bad guy but kinda loses his mind after Teta dies and gets sick of all the crap he has to put up with so he adopts the mindset of screw everyone I am going to do whats best for me. Ovelia is kind of more selfish than he is because during the game she is constantly crying about her own life of being a princess and being alone when she probably had plenty of chances in Zeltennia to run off, leave the country and start anew. It's easy for most people to call Delita evil when he is compared to Ramza who is like the most unselfish person ever. Delita is one of the most well written characters ever in any rpg that I can remember.

And if it makes anyone else feel better, my life in general has been incredibly stupid this past year too so just hang in there (as much as I hate to constantly have to tell myself that).

Finished the demo and the only other thing I noticed is when you face Hartell in the beginning it says defeat Algus. I haven't played any random fights (and I will have to start a new game for that) but I will let you know if I notice anything else.

So I finally got to play this mod and all in all it seems very enjoyable and I look forward to seeing the rest of it. I have played up to the first battle of Lionel castle and I do not use the debug command and here is what I notice so far.

The Good:
The stones are used in unique way to tell a story.
The map has been modified.
Everything seems to be modded from job classes to equipment to enemies.
Everything has a new description.
Skills and jobs are new and useful.

The Bad:
The game is still very buggy (which is to be expected).
I notice the enemy uses treat on itself but I am not allowed.
The AI needs improvement. Archers will plan a charge move just to move and cancel it.
Black Mage causes the game to bug out when going through its skill list.

I like that the game is not to hard (which I am getting a bit sick of, Jot5 being a difficult is enough for me) and I like some of the story aspects like how a certain archer does not join when you would expect them to because that almost always happens in these games. And like how a certain someone does not get killed right away; these aspects keep the story unpredictable which makes it fun and interesting. I would suggest playing through the first chapter of the mod Call of Power for story ideas as I feel that could help.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to this mod being completed as I play through the rest of the demo.  :more:

Journey of the Five Ch.1 / Re: Battle roles

I'm really looking forward to making Ramza a mediator. Give him a gun, some talk skills mixed with his base class looks promising. And I wonder about Dante, if I make him a ninja I could give him both a knife and a sword and have a greater variety in his move set.

I also felt that having Link as a black mage/archer was a lot of fun and made him hugely versatile. I had a hard time figuring what to do with cloud and I think he might be the guy I keep out for generics, monsters or Agrias.

Pretty sure Snake is going to be my thief as I always have a master thief.

Ramza: Go Wizard, pick up one or two damage spells, then slap that secondary onto Duke and stay there until you have Ultima and Altima. Then, send Ramza flying up the mage tree.
His overall purpose is basically to be your catch-all caster: combining the Duke's broad coverage with a later mage skill of your choice.

Link: Keep Link around the first tier of Jobs, picking up support abilities from Knight and Ranger while going for a White or Black Magic secondary once he can wield his weapons of choice in them. I personally preferred Link on bows, but he gets more AoE damage with a sword so your mileage may vary. Link's Songs are a major asset, particularly Saria's, as no other ability can restore MP so freely and to so many people at once.
Link's overall purpose is to be your jack-of-all trades, master-of-none. Keeping him focused on his base Job and one of the two first-tier casters will make sure that he, at least, doesn't suffer from empty skillsets.

Cloud: Cloud's role is similar to Link's, except with more focus on being a swordsman. Pick up Invigorate OR Sacrifice early on, then go back to his base Job and learn Cross-Slash and Omnislash before returning to Knighthood.
His setup is basically to be your mixed damage-dealer and support character. Healing if he has to, Immobilizing if it comes up, or just destroying them with Omni.

Dante: Pick up his dagger skills early on, then move to Knight and learn the Equip for them. It'll restrict Dante's damage output, but Flipper allows him to always have Regen and Defend ready to go, giving him AMAZING survivability as well as the ability to purge Poison whenever he likes. The rest of the dagger skills allow him to attack enemies from a distance (possibly even Paralyzing them) and have a high chance to move more than once per "turn" if he has to (to chase an enemy or flee from one). From there, send Dante climbing up the physical tree.
Dante is your tank/pursuer unit, looking to access more powerful Jobs when he can.

Snake: Go for Ranger almost immediately; some of Snake's most reliable abilities from his base Job are the ones he already has - Hide and Smoke Break, and you want to flesh out his steady offensive capability before you go back for the rest. Setting Snake up with both Ranger and Special Ops abilities allows him to work well as an assassin - debilitating enemies or attempting to one-shot them, at your command.

--------

That's just what I'd suggest and it's fairly simplified. Other people might have different setups.

I agree with all of this and it is a good setup however I like to keep Ramza in more of a support role as I have more fun that way. Kinda like a "chemist" of sorts and I will probably end up going for mediator with him (like a leader role who doesn't really get his hands dirty  :P). As for Link I love to make him a black mage/archer role. Definitely Dante for my tank with Cloud there as backup and Snakes base job is just too much fun to play as.

Do what you like but definitely experiment with different jobs and fight the urge to keep the 5 in there base classes.

and spending money you don't have.

As much as Delita has hit reality I would be happy to see him keep his convictions and join forces with Ramza also. I feel Delita needs to come out on top at the end of all of this to stay true to the cannon of FFTs. He should not only get by on secrets and half truths but also on his own strength that he has proven he has time and time again. Some where deep down he should also prove to be a great king especially if they were talking about him generations later as a great king. Maybe have him deal with some kind of invasion while all of the craziness of the 5 is going on.

Thanks again for all the great hard work. You guys need a real vacation to celebrate after all the work is done, just don't go to Six Flags Great Adventure as it is a huge waste of money. Instead buy something nice for yourselves (where you don't have to deal with long lines or crazy people).

And to Elric: We all hope a speedy and complete recovery to your wife after her surgery. Please take care of each of your healths.  :)

Call of Power: Chapter 1 to 3 / Re: CoP progress Log.
October 27, 2015, 08:21:44 pm
This was a really unique mod that I was really looking forward to after completing chapter 2. It made me feel like I was playing Tactics Ogre with the color scheme and script. The first guy you played as (forgot his name) was way better than the second lady you played as and I would go back and redo the second chapter as it was not as good as the first in terms of depth of story. Please finish this very unique mod.

The game seems pretty cool. It reminds me of Arc the Lad which is good and bad. Good because the gameplay was fun but bad because the game took a long time to play due to the way battles were. I thumbs up on steam for it but the price is too much for a game that is only 10-20 hours long for me. I will keep an eye out for it on steam in case it goes on sale for maybe half that.
