Title: Which modification to pick?
Post by: ViRAL on November 04, 2012, 06:50:29 pm
Hi!

I have never beaten FFT and I have never gotten particularly far.

Let me start by saying I've been down this road before. Exactly 3 times.

Twice, when I was younger, I played FFT on my PS1, then once, later, emulated.

When I was younger the battles were to complicated, and I gave up after 3-4 story-battles.

When I got older, I grew more confident and tried the game with one of the mods on this page (one that claimed re-balance and a little harder gameplay with monsters scaling better and such).

To my shame, I got overwhelmed quickly (even after a few good hours of grinding), and once again put the game back on the shelf.

So now, I wanna' try again. A final attempt to beat this masterful game.

Can you guys recommend a mod that will optimize the game as much as possible, without ranking up the difficulty? In short, I like a challenge, but I'd prefer actually being able to BEAT the game.

My experience with strategy-RPGs is rather thin, so it shouldn't stray to far from vanilla in terms of difficulty.

I greatly appreciate any advice! :)

You're in luck! I've made a mod that specifically fixes FFT's flaws while not upping the difficulty too high. It -is- slightly harder, but only because things have been rebalanced. It's called FFT: Kind Of, and there's both a PSX and a PSP version.

The PSX version can be found here: http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=8658.0
The PSP version can be found here: http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=8739.0

If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask, either on the forums or on chat.

That said, welcome to FFH, where all your dreams come true!

Oh, thank you Eternal! This seems just like the ting I was looking for!

I deeply appreciate your work. Maybe I can finally get through this game for once... Haha. Anyway, thanks again friend!

I will, most certainly!

If I may humbly ask a question about your wonderful-looking patch; does it use the updated PSP-script?

I've heard that there were questionable translation errors in the original PS1-release.

It's not big deal however.

Patching with your patch as we speak! :D

Sadly, it does not come with the PSP script. If you're interested in the PSP script without the balance changes of KO, try FFT: Complete, which can be found here: http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?board=26.0

Do NOT patch an ISO with several patches, and be sure to keep clean backups just in case.

Noted, thank you again Eternal!

Your patch looks awesome thus far!

Edit: I read in your patch-notes that monsters (I am guessing the random encounters) now scale with player-level. Won't this make grinding a little redundant? Just curious. Thanks again for a cool-looking mod!
