Title: gamespot/gamefaqs
Post by: Prinygod on December 02, 2007, 09:36:09 pm
i betting some of you know about the gamespot fireing of Jeff Gerstmann, for those who dont can go here to learn more http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/30/rumor ... lynch-rev/ (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/30/rumor-gamespots-editorial-director-fired-over-kane-and-lynch-rev/)

Any way my point of posting is unless it is some how proven untrue i need a good general video game forum that i can go to (because if its true i'm boycotting Cnet). Does anyone know of any? this is the only forum i go too other than gamefaqs.

So they are saying Jeff was fired because he wouldn't give the bribed higher score to Kane & Lynch?

Personally, I always saw gamespot as corrupted, and much more since the last year.

There's no debate. He was fired. For the "tone" of his reviews. Which is another way of saying if they plaster ads and shit for a game all over their site, a good review is obligatory.

I have long thought that Gamespot either was biased or just bad at reviews.  So, I think the allegations might be true, but I also admit the possibility that they may not be.  But no matter what, I still don't trust Gamespot reviews.

After all of the evidence presented, I believe it to be true.

I heard Jeff had originally gave a 2 for K&L... that was a bad game, but not THAT bad. 2 on Gspot is like... <_<

Jeff never had a good relation with the top guys there, so that might have been the (damn, I don't know how how to express that in english...)

Also, due to that Review, EA doesn't want to have some ads there anymore, making they lose money.

And... boycotting is just silly and useless.

where are you getting this, i have heard nothing about jeff giving a 2 too k&l Nor anything about the higher ups hating him. And even if they did hate him, that doesn't explain all the other shit that is going on i.e. removing the video and cleaning up the review to make the game seem better.

Gamespot gets most of there money from add revenue so boycotting the website is not useless, then again perhaps you want money to be everything that matters and let corporations run our lives. Perhaps that sounds a little hippish but don't deny that many corporation would orgasm at the thought of having that power over people.

My point with saying it's silly is because they don't really care about single person. Or even 100. They won't even notice it. Only if it was somewhat massive.

And about money... If I really though that way, all my PS, PS2 games wouldn't be Pirated. I've NEVER bought an original game on my life (only PC games since I needed the CD key to play on Battle.net).

Never bought a game for PS or PS2!?!  Wow, I'm impressed.  I've bought nearly every game I have.  I've only had two or three pirated copies of games in my posession.

And, Arggo, I think that there has been a pretty large backlash with this incident; so, it's not just as if it's one person boycotting.  I never really went to Gamespot much anyway, because I found it ugly and overly commercialized which is why I use thier GameFAQs side.

That's probably because you don't live in Brazil...

On gamecube, I only have original games (took long for them to figure out how to pirate it), so I had to spend 300 bucks on a game (about 170 dollars)... while I spent 10 bucks on a pirated PS2 game that works just as fine...

Another example... sometime ago, in the beginning of the year, it was cheaper to buy plane tickets, go to USA, buy a PS2/Xbox 360 or Wii, spend some days there and then come back to Brazil than buying it here.

Taxes sucks.

Wow, I'm amazed.  Getting a 360, PS3, or Wii was that bad?  Granted getting a Wii here in the states ain't easy, but it's not because of the price.

Strangely enough, my friend Tom was just recently talking about buying a 360 and taking it down to Brazil for his girlfriend.  Maybe that's why.  Well, that and he hasn't seen her for a couple of months, I guess.

Back on topic - This is why I dislike Gamespot. GameFAQs is better. The sites are the same thing, but most people coming off Gamespot seem to act like idiots half the time.
