Title: Getting started on Mods/Patching?
Post by: Notsoclvr on February 19, 2012, 08:43:48 pm
If there's a similar topic to this one, feel free to direct me to it. Due to the nature of it, I was a little unsure what to search in the Search box, so I could have easily missed an already made topic about this.

Anyway. So, I finished playing through the Call of Power patches (or mods, I'm unsure as to what to call them), and of course, being a new member, I'm obligated to aspire towards projects that are probably well beyond my skill level

So my question is, what are the basic steps to be able to create an entirely new story in the game? To my knowledge, most of it is event editing, correct? Can it be done mostly in Easy Vent? If not, what other programs are needed (aside from the Patcher, orgASM, TacText, etc), Is there coding involved? Obviously projects like that take a long time and a lot of effort, but I just sort of want to to know what it entails to create something along those lines.

To create a new storyline you need Attack.OUT editor, Attack.OUT Conditionals editor, one of the two wldcore.bin editors, the Patcher, and EasyVent. These together will allow you to change the story completely. Along with a lot of time and patience.

Is there a specific place I could get all that, or should I start googling? Aside from the Attack.OUT editor, which I see the site has.

I would also refer you to Kokojo's basic event editing tutorial here:

Also my tutorial on setting up a ChangeMap event may help you breakdown and easier understand how some commands work together:
