when i find what i want to change and save it it gives me an error

Try saving it as a .fftext file, closing the program, reopening it, loading the .fftext file, and then patching.

I hope you're using Quick Edit.... and if you start getting game crashes when a unit dies and crystalizes when they die, you'll need to change the death notification message text.
