Title: 3rd FFT AI Tourney!
Post by: Argg0 on August 14, 2008, 11:30:57 am
What would be the best Team under this rules?

So, I've been wondering... What would be the best team under the rules that follows (mostly based on 2450 JP - by LHMG)?

1-) Team consisting of 4 generic human characters on level 38, all controled by AI, either Save Fadding Life or Run Like a Rabbit. Stats will come from http://www.geocities.com/zouf300/charts.html (http://www.geocities.com/zouf300/charts.html).
2-) Brave ranging from 40 to 70, total brave on the team must be 220.
3-) Faith ranging from 40 to 70, total faith on the team must be 240.
4-) Each unit has 2450 JP to spend in various abilities. As in FFT, each unit cannot spend points toward an ability before filling Job level requirements for the prerequisite jobs. For example, a character could not buy speed break without allocating 200 JP to squire (to make knight accessible). They might choose to spend 150 on Heal, and leave 50 extra in squire, but they need to allocate the 200. Units are not required to spend the entire 2450.
5-) Only one unit on a team can buy any individual ability. So two units could have the Punch Art ability set but only one could have purchased Earth Slash. Innates do not count for that, so you can have a Chemist and a Knight with Throw Item.
6-) Banned Abilities: Zodiac, Level, Exp (both from Calc), All Throw abilities except Balls and Shuriken, Elixir.
7-) Equipments: No doubles, so you can't use two Power Sleeves in different units. Everything to Checkpoint 10 (after Zalmo 1). As in here: http://project-yvalice.wikispaces.com/Tact_Equip_Check (http://project-yvalice.wikispaces.com/Tact_Equip_Check)
8-) Throw and Item have unlimited stock. Auto Potion will always be potion (yes, it is worthless this way).

Since I know this board, I know that it won't be solved with conversation alone. So, I'll be recording the battles.

For a setup to be eliminated, it will have to lose twice to another setup.

Each setup must come with a map. So, if you want your setup "home" map to Mandalia, it will be. You must also tell which team you want to be, team 1 or team 2.

They will face each other on both maps, and if a tie happens they will face on a random map.

If you think you know a good setup, mail me at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ean5usNy7G0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ean5usNy7G0)
Round 2, Thieves Fort: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNP7_WwkQ-M (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNP7_WwkQ-M)

I'm quite interested in this, but first a few questions:
1) With Draw Out, do I get an unlimited supply of katanas?
2) I'm assuming that katanas that aren't obtainable yet cannot be used but can you clarify the rules on draw out a bit more?
3) Can my team decide to have lower brave or faith values than the ones posted?
4) Can the AI be swapped mid-battle?
5) Can I change my R/S/M and secondary abilities on my team between battles? By that I mean, I can't change my JP allocation, but I can change abilities already learned. Example: I have a knight with Arrow Guard, but after battle 1, my opponent doesn't have any archers. For the second battle, I change my knights Arrow Guard to Weapon Guard(which was learned during team creation) to better suit the situation.
6) Can I change equips in between battles(similar to Q5)?
7) What's the deadline for sending in the teams?

As I said at the start, I'm very interested, so assume that I will have a team sent in by the deadline(if others are also interested of course).

1) With Draw Out, do I get an unlimited supply of katanas?
R: Unlimited amount.

2) I'm assuming that katanas that aren't obtainable yet cannot be used but can you clarify the rules on draw out a bit more?
R: Yep, DO is limited by the shop, so, the highest DO you can use is Heaven's Cloud.

3) Can my team decide to have lower brave or faith values than the ones posted?
R: Nope, your team must have that total Faith and Brave. That's so that mages don't get so gimped against a all 40 Fa enemies.

4) Can the AI be swapped mid-battle?
R: Nope, AI will be the same for all tourney. Save Fadding Life or Run Like a Rabbit.

R: Nope, teams aren't allowed to change anything thru the tourney.

6) Can I change equips in between battles(similar to Q5)?
R: Same as above.

7) What's the deadline for sending in the teams?
R: No deadline yet, since we don't have many teams so far (only 2 =/)

Does anyone even have interest on this?

Just let me know so I can know how many people are getting in...

Yeah I'll probably be in, I'm just working out the flaws in my setup and playtesting it a bit. Also I'm working out a home battlefield. One more question though:

For the home battlefield, can I choose one of the tutorial fields? Or does it have to be one of the random battles? I'm trying a field with lots of corridors and obstacles.

All maps that can be choosen by Debug mod are acceptable.

Giving the number will help a lot too.

I guess this will be a one row only constest...

Since things are going slow, I decided to change things a bit.

One team will stay until defeated, so, FFF vs Dol, when one win twice, another challeger comes to face the winner, and so on.

Edit: btw, Videos on the first topic.

Argg, if i honestly had more time, id definatly, and i mean definatly, make up a team, but between the formula editing i just discovered, and learning more about the ASM behind them, its rather hard...to be involved in the outside community of the chatroom and my disassembler.

I will look forward to watching the videos though, so i can relax and enjoy a video of things i have enjoyed so much in the past <3

Vanilla I believe. That example knight has Speed Break.

Sorry if this is partially off topic.  How do you access debug mode in WoTL?

There is only one more player on the list... unless someone else sends a team, I don't know what to do...

Agreed, till new challengers arrive.

Where can I find a list of how much JP it takes to open up the different level of a particular job?
Title:
Post by: Skip Sandwich on August 30, 2008, 07:28:37 pm
For vannila the levels are
level 1- 100jp
level 2- 200jp
level 3- 350jp
level 4- 550jp
level 5- 800jp
level 6- 1150jp
level 7- 1550jp
level 8- 2100jp

yup

Post by: Cheetah on August 30, 2008, 11:08:21 pm
There should be some way to design this so that it is like an expandable tournament bracket. Favoring those who have been around longer because their team keeps facing the new guy. Or just keeping a score record and having everyone fight everyone once actually is better. So never mind just have everyone fight everyone best out of three. So Dol and Sandwich could go a few rounds and then the new challengers can start by facing the team with the least wins and working their way up.

If I have a monk with equip shield, does that reduce his damage output?

So can I only use equipment that is listed on that link relating to the checkpoints?

Well I was only planning on just coming up with a real quick team, but this ended up taking a bit of work! So many rules. But after some time I finally got a team submitted. Hopefully me seeing the other teams first doesn't end up giving me much of an advantage. I have only played through FFT twice so hopefully that will balance the play board. Looking forward to the videos!

I guess I'll join in on this soon. I wasn't going to, but it seems like this could really use a lot more participators. Plus, I haven't done anything FFT-related in while (Including that Lancer SSCC) so this should help get me interested in the game again, I hope.

Shield has no impact on damage... well, you could be using Attack UP instead of Equip Shield, that's the only way you could say it "lowers" your damage.

The original idea was to make a tourney, but, after two or three weeks I had only two teams... ended up giving up on the idea.

There are now 7 teams with me, that's still not enough to make a tourney...

And, lately, I've been pretty busy (as you may have noticed since there are no new videos), so... maybe if more teams show up... we could people re-send their teams and start from zero. That would give me some more time... =P

Ohhh sad day. But if you haven't noticed the more videos you make the more interest you are going to create. I would still just recommend just changing the format a bit so it isn't a tournament style and just have everyone fight everyone. Then maybe have a final tournament between the teams with the best records.

But if you don't have enough time, then you don't have the time. Though I for one would give you so support if you need it to get these things done.

Anyways, I'd like to throw my hat into the ring too, and I just poked Argg0 on youtube about grabbing those teams and running with it if he's still bogged down with stuff.

Really I'm interested in how well the AI will muster with my old, AI controled 2450 team XD.

This would be sweet to get going again. We need someone willing to set the teams up though and record. I think commenting would be sweet too. Plus this would be a great way to test new jobs people are coming up with and doing balance testing (well it is an idea at least).

I'll probably set this up under 1.3 mechanics shortly.

But I need to prep a few tables like new JPs and level xx stats for each class first =\

That is a pretty brilliant idea Philsov. Then so then the baseline rules would be changed slightly as well too then?

Geez, no one read the New Projects thread since dominic became mod? D:

Only difference is wahts better. no obscure AI to prioritize an ability. People will be controlling it all instead of the AI, to make sure you use the ability best in the situation, instead of everything being instant run away potion or run up chiri...

Yes.  For one, a larger JP allowance will be a bit larger because each class takes a little more to unlock, but everything is also cheaper -- it'll be a fun line to create.  2450 JP, for example, expliticly made it so the only math skill you can have was CT5 (but no holy), and you could unlock dancer but was still 50 JP away from nameless dance.

But the basics will be the same.  Maybe I'll even allow some monsters, dunno.

QuoteOnly difference is wahts better. no obscure AI to prioritize an ability. People will be controlling it all instead of the AI, to make sure you use the ability best in the situation, instead of everything being instant run away potion or run up chiri...

But then it becomes more a matter of the player than the comp.  A good player with a medium comp can curbstomp a bad player with a better comp.  With the AI, the playing field is leveled.  Plus, this also won't be at level 99 and the JP/item pool will be limited.

Sounds great Philsov, I will look forward to whatever you come up with. I made a team under the old rules but never saw it in action, so hopefully I can make another and prove to everyone what a FFT noob I am.

Sorry SentinalBlade. I have read that topic several times, but it is such a jumble of ideas it wasn't making any sense in my brief glances at it. The title doesn't make any sense either.

I suppse youve got a point cheetah.

There really isnt any rules, since its the first 1.3 tourny on the psp, it doesnt really deserve to be restricted.

After this one we will probably do one with rules and limitations, but not yet.

Plus me and Tithin are pretty equal in skill, so it all comes down to how well the setups will do against each other. we just arent limited by using things like masamune as a priority.
