I have seen this but where?
Would it work to simply rename the original sprite and paste it over top another sprite? This would require a) we know which type the sprite is, and b) that the game "knows" how to decompress the sprite regardless of where it is stored. While we couldn't use this to decompress the sprite, it would allow us to see it in game. Then we could take screen shots and use those to reconstruct the sprite. For that matter, we might be able to use this same technique on the other two "mystery sprites".
Dami.spr is the file that appears when there are to many sprites on a battle map...

kasenem is an unused or dummied priest sprite, he has a portrait in worldchr.bin as well as a unit.bin sprite, if you use that japanese program to extract the single unit.bin images you can find his color palette too. its the black haired dude in blue and gold. you can see his picture in the list of avatars. i posted a picture of it somewhere... i forget the topic name...

I think kasanem and kasanek are archives. They contain multiple sprites. Viewed through shishi they come out stacked on top of each other. One is for physical classes and the other for mages. Not proven yet though.
do you think changing/removing offsets would give access to the seperate files, like the method now used for eventchr.bin ?
im having trouble understanding why your trying to make the "iron giant" and place it over dami.spr when dami.spr is a placeholder sprite.. it appears when there are more than 9 different sprites on a battle map, its a glitch holder.. it stops the game from completly crashing when the 9 sprite glitch happens...
Unless your trying ot make it nad replace itwith worker #8.. in which case im all for it, but i wouldnt reccomend replacing dami.spr... i did and my game froze when i went past the 9 sprite limit.
Has anyone tried replacing the other two yet? see what happens if you replace them.. if they are an archive for other sprites, or archive for sprite placements, the physical or magical classes would have to mess up somewhere....right?
okay, so what evidence do you have that its a glitch holder? its NEVER appeared for me unless i deliberately put it there, and i have overloaded the number of sprites before and the game never crashes, it only has garbled up images when too many are around.
the fact that there is part of an iron giant in there suggests that they used that to store at least what they had, if not more.
the proof isnt substantial, it appears at random... the garbeled image is the lines staticy looking image in the middle of the sprite, right before the iron giant starts. the sprite boxes at the top...i think ther e is a screen of it happening somewhere..ill edit this post whe ni find it...

I am sorry about what i said... i did not mean to come off as a jerk... i have had this box appear when i replace a wrong sprite with something that shouldnt be there (like altima on a thief) or when you overload the amount of sprites in a battle... point is, when i replace it with a sprite like...KH cloud, the game will freeze on me =(

Does no one read my tutorials? xD i made a zodiac take the place of ramza's sprite, cdmage truncated it, but i lost nothing...no sprite frame loss, no color or quality loss(the quality of the sprite was awful to begin with, but i did it with velius nad he looked THE SAME)
What I mean was having all animations: Swing with weapons, sing, and so on, that Worker doesn't have. For that he would have to be resized, right?

I gave up on this XD not enough decompressed for me to do much of anything if we can get it more decompressed i might continue.
Here, there isn't any more than this.
I removed the white spots that determined the size of each sprite.
All of them are 56x56, so they are attack animations except the two ones at the center bottom which are 48x48.
I added Worker 8's portrait as it fit the best.
It's still cool to see the whole thing.

I'm going to be working on the defend, still, too. I fixed some cosmetic problems I made (shoulder horns), and I'm attempting to do the critical pose.

And yes, I'm keeping the color limitations, or so I believe I am. I currently have this on a sheet with Velius and Worker 8 to get an idea as to how the positions go. The end product will only contain the original colors, however.

i used the previewer, and print screen, then did copy and pastes to get the hair
Pretty much what i did xD but for the grahpic itself, I had to make the upper body charge over shadow the hair placed on the lower torso :/
And I did a decent injured stance... but I guess I didn't save and the program did it's 10 minutely crash... If I was comfortable with any other program...
Also, I'm not sure what to do for the skill use pose. Any ideas?

try having them bend at the elbows like Worker 8's arms?
it'll give him alot more character and will probably improve the entire animation alot
I actually don't mind that his arms are stiff, it makes sense so he is soo bulky. You are right that the right shoulder needs some work. My main concern is the feet/legs. They seem to be more shuffling out to the sides then taking steps. But this is truly amazing overall. I don't think you need to start from scratch, this has lots of potential.

I didn't really notice the feet so much. And, I also don't mind the stiff arms. Iron giants are completely unnatural constructs after all.
I did just remember one thing about them, they carry a huge sword or mace in every other appearance they've made in the series. They usually have their weapons held in one hand and sometime have them lying on top of on of their shoulders. But even if you don't add it it'll still be epic. ^_^

the back arm looks like it rotated better at the shoulder in the last preview the front arm looks good
You are going in the right direction. The arms are definitely looking much better. Like Zozma said the right one is a little off but I'm not sure how. The legs are still odd but better, they are just hard to work with since they are so stubby to begin with.
Yeah, and the Stand pose has the feet all weird, like facing outward. I'll redo the right arm. Something's just not right. And if I can pin point it, I'd prefer to do it all over again.

once again, if the arms were not completely straight it would be easier to tell which direction the body is really facing
this animation could pass for a front view unless you specifically tell the person looking at it that it's a rear view
bending the arms is going to help alot

Well, prealpha version is "done," but so far it's giving me hell to even see it in Shishi's sprite editor. And I'm currently not in the mood to spend a great deal of time on it.
Colors may need fixing, as PSP recolored alot of parts... I just don't remember how to fix it. It also needs to be rearranged. I understand the jump looks awkward. I also fear that I made certain frames too big.
So generally I just want to know what I need to fix before I do anything else.

I've tested nearly everything, save "jump." The main problem with Worker 8 is that it has more than one style of attack (i.e. Drill-hand, "dispose"). I guess you could just repeat the attacking animations.

Most of those attacks are held in iron.sp2
which you sprite normally, just keep in mind that it is linked to the animationss...
like crush will need to use the crush animation when using iron.spr... so if you want "catastrophe" as a new animation, place it over crush and remember to call it in the effect box as crush.
mainly, if you ever feel up to the strenous task of super fancy animation, just go ahead and edit the .sp2
Edit: at 22 seconds your video messes up btw.
you know, you can disable those special animations and make those abilities use something else. OR add more animations to the sp2 files
either way its just beautiful.

And, she was aware of the color limitations and she wasn't really conceited...
It was on my computer. I don't know why... it doesn't look it, so I wouldn't doubt Paintshop Pro 5 added some colors in.
Also I hope I didn't convey a message that I thought ill of her, in any way. : ( I researched her, and most of what I got was words of advice. She doesn't strike me as a self-praising person... just helpful.

and it just needs Worker 8's extra attack animations, Sydney. It has attack animations, already, just not all of Worker 8's 2 spr sheets worth.

I think there should be some research done on DAMI.SPR
It appears Arch managed to get the static image to appear on a bugged out sprite.
I was trying ot explain earlier that the DAMI.SPR(the sprite file this new iron giant was found in) is basically a 'placeholder' for various sprite issues.
The image at the top happens when setting the wrong sprite, such as using 5D with a stand alone job, as zozma said.
But the static right before the iron giant images start is what displays when a unit bugs out when theres more than 9. Arch just tried it on zirekale falls and agrias bugged out using the static.
The difference between DAMI.SPR and sprite posted is the pallete. thats not the original pallete. it is much more...messed up, and i think its over the 16 color limit. it shows the static, but in color.
i meant ot prove this a few months ago, but for some reason i couldnt get the static to re appear so i could prove it...

dami might have its own sound file as well, kind of like how altima's attacks or worker 8.

That is a very interesting idea Sentinal Blade.
So it has been 5 years, and I decided to try to add in his great cleaver:
I plan on either having the unarmed hit be the default, and the great cleaver be secondary (skill usage?) -- or making a slightly different cleave one for an area atack (like the minotaur)
note: This is a WIP -- I'm not done, yet.
Hah, that's cool. I was eager to clean up the Iron Giant once, since he is quite messy beneath his armor. But it was such a pixel soup that I decided not to, Twinees agreed :P.
It's fun to see the cleaver though, kinda a trademark of his.

That's awesome. New Cleaver frames look neat. I always liked this sprite, and you wouldn't believe how happy I am to see it gets some justice :D
If this is cleaned up enough I know were we can use it in Jot5 :P

I had been wantingto fix him up for a while. I've been modding "Terraria" (I created "Omnir's Modpack") and I feel like I can tackle this, now.
Also trying for an Ogre sprite.

Small update: So the new sword thrust downward animations had to be rearranged, and the best animation sort is the Lucavi (Ruka) -- The Sword thrust is for charging up.
I'm feeling something is off with the sword animation, so I'm working on that, too.
Lastly, and off topic, here is the currently terrible concept sprite for the Ogre(FFI+) I want to work on:

Very nice concepts and hope you figure out what you want with the attack frames that seems hard. I thought for the pose with the sword stabbed to the groud that the cleaver be facing up as opposed to down as the attack animations like slashing, punching and dragoon jump all come from above going below. The giant would get his hands cut off if that was a defend pose :) But that is just my opinion

For the ogre -- He'll the typical over the head club smash. 2 handed, if I can help it.
The Cleaver ground-stab is mostly "charging up" or like Velius' famous summoning stance. I got the pose from how he "powers up" in Final Fantasy VII. But I'll be thinking about what you said :)

Pink for the normal, Green for the "Great" or "Chief" versions >:3 Blue for Mage.
That sprite is awesome XD it totally looks frustrated (or tying its hair up >.>)

You seem like you want some edits to push you in the right direction so here you go.
He needed more muscles and less of a shine on his arm. The colours you had were great, all that was needed was an extra skin tone slightly darker than the brightest to really make it look like skin (also make sure you dont share colours with the skin and hair or you'll have a bit of a pain make alternate palettes later [furthermore you have 2 colours unused so use one for the darkest bit of the hair]). His face could probably do with some improvements but its up to you whether you want to keep the blasphemous nose. The boots need a little bit of touch up as well but you are definitely on the right track. Interested to see more that comes out of this :)

Just two more minor things... The pink ogre's loin cloth has a shading that makes it look like a big willy......... since his upper body is leaning over maybe we can shade the area a bit. For the green guy his pendant kind of blends in as an upper chest probably due to the light colored are below.you can remove the pendant or shade the light reflection on the right side abs.

The problem with FFT sprites is that they really only expand in size upwards if you want to go in different sizes. You could do a really compressed one in like a zodiac format :P I'd like to see what you come up with

As for the size of Ultima -- he'd be pretty tiny, sadly. Like the dragon. But I'll see if I can make it work.
