Title: Good news everyone!
Post by: Pickle Girl Fanboy on September 02, 2011, 11:15:05 am
I have two lumps on the left side of my neck, just under the skin.  Last night, I discovered another, much bigger one just under my left ear - it's a lymph node or gland or something.  It's swollen, but it doesn't itch like I have a cold or infection.  I can feel the pressure on my ear and my throat.

So, I may have cancer.  YAY!  I have a doctor's visit scheduled on Tuesday, and I think he'll either draw blood for tests himself (and maybe send me to a hospital to get a biopsy) or schedule a visit with a cancer specialist who will test me.  Either way, it will be a few weeks - I think - before I know if I should blow my meager savings on hookers and weed.

If I do have cancer, I'll draw up a living will and will set aside part of my savings to mail all my useful electronic shit to some of you guys, should I bite the dust.  Whatever money is left (not much) I'll probably have sent to the admin of this and a few other rom hacking sites, to be donated for the funding of the sites.  I probably won't contribute anything substantial (in terms of rom hacking, not my stuff) to this or any rom hacking site for at least a few weeks.

Here's the list of my crap:
*An Acer Aspire Netbook, running Linux Mint 10.  Comes with charging cord.  It has 1GB ram, running at about 3.2 ghz.  Comes with a jigundus music collection, a porn collection so large and varied that I don't feel the urge to browse internet porn anymore (nothing illegal, and NO FURRIES), all my rom hacking stuff, programs to play music and edit text files and spreadsheets, emulators (crappy ones), and built in WiFi.
*A PS1, with every Final Fantasy and SaGa Frontier game for that system, along with a bunch of other obscure RPGs and the Tenchu games.  Comes with a few gamesharks, memory cards, controllers, and I think all the cords to get it working.  I have two copies of FFT.
*A PS2, with Romancing SaGa, Final Fantasy 12, a Codebreaker CD and Flash Drive, some other games, cords, and memory cards.
*A PSP, now with the screen fixed.  Does not have custom firmware.  Comes with Jeanne D'Arc, FFT:WOTL, and some kind of drum machine game.  Has all the cords, and a memory stick and adapter.  Is a PSP2000, with version 3.71 firmware.
*A gigantic thing of Music CDs.
*A big case of movie DVDs.
*A GBA SP, with all the Final Fantasy games, Yggdra Union, Sigma Star Saga, Tactics Ogre:TKOL, and other RPGs and tactical RPGs.  Three Zelda games too.
*A 120 GB external hard drive, which is 6 years old and kind of crappy.
*I also have a 1990 Toyota Corolla with about 99000 miles on it.  It gets pretty good gas milege, doesn't have any major or minor problems except that it looks like dogshit and has a nasty bump above the front right tirewell, but that's just cosmetic.  Mildy neglected, it will last at least another 50,000 miles.  If you care enough to take care of it, it may not ever die.

That's everything worth having.  I'll probably donate all my books to the local library.  So yeah, who wants what?  Don't bother posting if you're outside the USA or if I don't know you or like you.  And before you get your hopes up, remember that I'm not fucking dead yet, this all might be an infection or a benign tumor.  If it is, I'll tell you my real name and post a pic of my balls, out of pure, unadulterated joy.

You're fine- do not jump to conclusions. I had the same things before. They are called sits (sp?) they are lumps that just travel around the body. I had one under my ear but doctor told me about it and it went away.

Nonetheless, check it out before creating a deathbed.

Like I said, I won't know anything for a few days, and I won't know everything for a few weeks.  If you knew what my family was like, you would understand why I'm doing this.  If I dropped dead tommorow, my mom would have my shit in a pawn store and a bundle of lottery tickets in her purse before Monday.  So as ghoulish as it is, I'll do it, so somebody who isn't a complete sack of shit will find some usefullness in my life.

It won't hurt anybody to be prepared for anything and everything.

Bullshit!  There's no such thing as being too prepared.  And I can feel the one just below my ear when I swallow, so something's going on there.  Hopefully it's just a clogged gland or something.  Besides that, it will take a while to figure out how much it will cost to ship x to z.

PGF, I have the very same thing. Mine hasn't gone away in about two years, and their size changes all the time. The doctor doesn't think that they're cancer because of how they feel, though. May be the same thing.

I'm pretty sure the cancer is more scared of you than you are of it.

I know I would be.

I'm with Kaijyuu on this one, but they're probably just harmless cysts.

Turns out it's an abcess.
*googles abcess*
Oh. (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=abcess&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=109l1024l0l1211l6l5l0l0l0l0l814l814l6-1l1l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1024&bih=435&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi)  My. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abscess)  Saint Ajora. (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=vomit&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=1088l1551l0l1716l5l3l0l0l0l0l0l0ll0l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1024&bih=435&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi)

Turns out this abcess is very close to the nerves between my ear and my jaw.  I didn't feel any pain, and told the doctor so, until five minutes after he was done prodding it, when it felt like someone had smashed a pugil stick into my neck.  I promptly filled my prescription for antibiotics, had breakfast at subway, and washed my giant horse pill down with a glass of milk.

So while I don't have cancer, there's still a fair chance it could seriously fuck me up, so I was only half-wrong.

I've had an abcess on my stomach once, and let me tell you: you are not in for a pleasant time. You are going to have to have it opened and drained and stuffed repeatedly. Very painful. Like medieval torture painful. At least it wasn't on my neck, damn.

I'm on antibiotics for now.

What would happen if your robbed a pharmacy and told them to give you all their potions?

I'm out of antibiotics, and the abcesses are still there.

The first five days I was taking the antibiotics nothing happened. The abcesses stayed the same size, and I was getting headaches and sore/stiff muscles in my neck and upper back.

So I cut open the largest abcess with a knife and leaked pus, hard off-white stuff, and blood all over the place. The pain changed from the sort of pain I associate with inflamation (having had fairly nasty allergies most of my life) to the kind of pain that you feel after you work out or when a deep cut is healing.

I did this every day, and it got smaller and softer, but I noticed other things. I started to cough and sneeze a bit, there's a tiny bit of blood drying in the back of my nose whenever I wake up, and the pain and stiffness spread to the muscles of the left side of my chest, my left sholder, and the upper part of my left arm. Also, the inside of my left ear sometimes feels a bit of pressure, as does the back of my left eye, though that has mostly passed.

I'm now out of antibiotics. I can't afford to go to a doctor, so my question is, should I go to the emergency room to get this fixed? Will they drain the abcesses on my neck and give me a shot of antibiotics, or do I need something else?

Somehow I doubt performing surgery on yourself is a good idea.

As long as you know what you are doing (And you can endure the pain), you can perform surgery on yourself

Yeah, I looked at abcesses on WebMD and it said I should never do it, because the infection could spread, in some cases to the bloodstream.  A blood infection is often lethal, even today with all the technology we have.  I'm sorry to disappoint, but I'm not cutting myself open anymore, especially since I don't have any antibiotics floating in my bloodstream.

Also, WebMD said most abcesses are drained on the spot, not treated with antibiotics.  I don't know what the fuck my doctor was thinking.

Still, if it wasn't right under my ear, I'd still cut it open, just for shits and giggles.  And because it'd make an awesome video.  As it is, I don't think I can position my camera to catch the incision while making it, so no dice.

Um, yeah, the doctor should have lanced it then and there AND should have put stuffing in it so that it'll heal completely. If you just drain without stuffing it, it's just gonna heal on the outside and there's still gonna be abcess sized hole in your body that's gonna just fill up again. Stuffing prevents the body from healing over the abcess, forcing the body to heal the whole thing. It's painful as all hell, but it's works. I suggest getting a different doctor/going to a different hospital.

They have to. That's what that oath they take is all about.

Go. Now.

I went, and the emergency room doctor just stuck needles in the abcesses (I have two small ones below the big one under my ear) and drained all the blood and pus out of them.  He said I got most of the juice out the big one when I cut it open, and that I'd probably be fine.  Though they did ask that I follow up with another visit to the doctor, but since I'm broke and unemployed...

Also, he said the big one was already healing, since it had a lot of blood in it.  It got smaller and softer after each time I sliced it, and the last time it felt like there were two, I guess you'd call them pus chambers.

We'll see what happens.  If my head drops off within the next week, I'll go back.

EDIT

And I forgot to ask him to film it.  Damn.

What's the status? I hope they've healed up..
I suppose you could go to a clinic hopefully with a sliding scale type of deal (it'd probably only be about 40 dollars) or go to the hospital give themg a phony name if you must.

There's still stuff in the abcesses, but they're much smaller now.  The big one under my ear is tiny, but growing slowly.  I don't dare cut it open without antibiotics.

And yes, even the emergency doctors around here are apparentally morons.  Either that, or they think I have an infinite amount of money, and can keep going to the emergency room for them to cut it open, so they don't have to pack it or otherwise find some way to keep it open while it heals.
