Title: Some WotL Spriting Problems
Post by: Cutwater on June 09, 2011, 11:01:07 am
Howdy everyone, proud to be here, sorry my first post is a question as opposed to any original content.

I've been trying to figure out how to patch War of the Lions but with little luck, I was using the "New 'Creating Custom Characters' Tutorial" by jon.  But then I got stuck with that FFTacText error that seems to be a brick wall for the PSP folks.  So I figured that I should be able to just replace sprites for the PSP one, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.  I've been using Shishi's editor to put my custom in, then using FFTPatcher to switch the sprites into my party, but that's not really working for me.

I also think that there maybe a problem with my sprite as I can't get the portrait to display properly in Shishi's.  I'll attach my sprite if that helps, but know that credit should go to SMASH as it's just a mash up of SMASH's Fire Emblem sprites.  Thanks!

Yeah, the portrait is off. It (the portrait) is supposed to look similar to a photonegative image so that it can be properly paletted by the game. As it is now Shishi's can't read it.

Thanks for the info!   I figured out how to get around the FFTacText stuff, but I'm still having trouble with my sprite.

How do I fix the portrait?  I've been using graphics gale and everything yet I'm hosed every time I load it into Shishi's.  Any ideas?

Um... you don't, really. If you're not an professional spriter, then you're basically better off downloading the .spr file that you originally got it off of and taking the portrait from there. There's no easy way to convert it to shishi's format unless you want to enlist someone like Kage or Mav.

Bummer, thanks for the info.

Do you know how those guys do it?  I mean, I'm no professional, but it's just a simple palette swap at this point, right?  Is there a pattern or algorithm for the palette swap, I thought it was a simply negative, but that's definitely wrong.
