Title: Battle of the VGM v2.0
Post by: Eternal on May 20, 2011, 07:00:59 am
It's time for another Battle of the VGM! Can you believe it was December when the last one was held? Time sure flies! Here are the rules. It's simple. Simply nominate two video game tracks that are your favorite, and there'll be a vote each day for which track you like best. And then at the end only one track will remain! Will your favorite music come out on top!?

Embed your two nominations and put them in spoiler tags, please. It makes the page not slow to a crawl when loading, please!

New rule: The song you nominate CANNOT be a song entered from the last tournament. (The link to the old tournament is here: http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=6274.0) Every song must be original, so no remixes. But remakes are acceptable as long as it's in a game. For those wondering, I'm saving the 80s tournament for the summer when more people will be active so we can hopefully get more entrants.

I nominate:

Calling from Heaven (Castlevania: Bloodlines)

AND

Battle II (Final Fantasy XIV)

Arcana - Prologue.  Done by the same guy from HAL Labs who also did all the Kirby music.  If you browse through the catalog the similarities are pretty damn striking (this is touch darker)

aaaaaand, may as well go with another SNES cult classic that starts with an A:

Actraiser - Birth of a People

Edit:  Actraiser - Birth of a People Symphonic Suite.  This is awesome classical music.  Obviously invalid, but I just wanted to share it <3

Super Sonic Racing - Sonic R (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MJ91SexF0M&fmt=18)

Heh, I'm different and special for formatting it the sexy way

Edit: @Celdia: Music from IWBTG (Wily's 1st Castle Theme)!?

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World - Bad Ending Theme

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance - Life Returns

Just a little music from two games I just recently played through :)

-I realise the Bad ending theme isn't fantastic, but it went along incredibly well with the part it featured, better than a lot of music normally does. I figured I would say it now, since people might say it sucks on its own.

Am totally changing one of mine since it hasn't started yet.

The amazing Star Wars: Republic Commando Mandalorian battle theme.

And the amazing tutorial music I wish I could have on the formation screen :P

Only two... hmm...

My first one would have to be one of my personal, all time favorites. TOMO YO!!! It was this or White Tiger from 2...

Another under-represented but excellent game and song.

Sadly, with only two options, I can't advocate for Metroid, Kingdom Hearts, or Xenosaga, nor LoZ Spirit Tracks... :(

Deleted my old post, and am now resubmitting.

Great game. I have always loved the Metroid games. But this certain metroid game, it switches the classic Metroid crazy hardness, with an adventurous, and some thrill to it. You can never see what is behind you. Near the end of the game you have to go through dark caverns, full of metroid. You can't really see them, but you hear them everywhere.

Such a freaking hard game, but its very good. Nothing else to say here.

I would have picked a different Metroid song (perhaps the menu theme), but that one is good too.
