Yes. Now this is awesome. Beyond belief. Thanks Sentinal.

By the way.. I tried to compile the three images in the Japenese Sprite Editor, but it just comes up with an error.

Am I meant to have set it to something, or...?

EDIT: Never mind. Fixed it.

Title:
Post by: Zozma on July 31, 2008, 05:46:27 pm

Title:
Post by: CidIII on July 31, 2008, 05:58:24 pm
No, it's just I was planning on using the Japanese program to assemble them, but you need a Palette for that.
Title:
Post by: CidIII on July 31, 2008, 06:11:19 pm
Is there any easy way to save palettes on GIMP or something?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on July 31, 2008, 07:02:00 pm
do you mean for importing in the unit.bin?

export the palettes of the sprite itself using shishi

SAWEET, Neocloud is my sprite!  Does this make me Japanese?

I am teh AZN, now! WAHOO!
Title:
Post by: CidIII on July 31, 2008, 07:10:12 pm
No for creating the sprite sheets with the Japanese program, it assembles the  three parts easier than manually doing it.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on July 31, 2008, 07:15:36 pm
hmmm well gimp isnt too hard to organize the colors, i heard gfx gale might be easier tho? dont remember.
Title:
Post by: CidIII on July 31, 2008, 07:20:33 pm
But to save the .pal file.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on July 31, 2008, 07:25:02 pm
the easiest way to create a .pal (or should i say a fft compatable .pal) i know of is changing the colors of the .spr file with snespal and then exporting the pal with shishi... probably the work you're trying to avoid tho huh..?
Title:
Post by: CidIII on July 31, 2008, 07:29:48 pm
Yeah, kind of.

It's hard to believe that none of the Sprites included palettes.

i wouldnt mind seeing the Aeris together ^_^

Yeah that Aeris sprite pretty much solves our problem of who is going to do it Zozma haha. It could definitely use some touching up though. I think I will probably finish my version with the basket sometime anyways.

All the portraits pretty much look like shit though. There are a lot better portraits for most of the characters in one of those previews that was found a while ago. Overall I'm only impressed by a few of the sprites, but it is still a great resource and a good find.

Post by: CidIII on July 31, 2008, 08:46:50 pm
Minwu is pretty good. I thought the Queen was decent.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on July 31, 2008, 09:12:15 pm
so aeris looks decent? good, if she needs touching up i could probably do it when i go back over my other sprites.

I was very surprised to see Zeromus in there!
However, I'd like to see more of the already-appearing Lucavi in their Ivalice Alliance forms, and despite all my attempts, none of my versions look good. The one that causes the most trouble is Hashmal.
Title:
Post by: Vanya on August 01, 2008, 01:28:36 am
I think no one mentioneds zeromus 'til now cause, no offense to the creator, he looks like ass.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on August 01, 2008, 02:37:21 am
you know what cheeta... id say any parts you're having trouble with aeris on use this... but uhh... these people arent near as good as i thought they were... the best portrait is of basch (and i like his character in the ffxii game but find it hard to want to sprite him)

alright so im gonna post their version of aeris here, because really it's not so bad, HOWEVER, it will be touched up, and i bet cheeta has parts that are a bit smoother than this.... (*whisper* she looks like a pancake in the dead animation lol)

im sorry but their sprites looked appealing at first but i think we have a better set of spriters here.

i have to admit, to work on this version of aeris you've gotta be quite a trooper because even just with the parts that they have, it looks fine at a distance, but up close when you need to edit pixels, it looks a hot mess.

I agree with you Zozma, about the look of the sprite and the quality of the others. They have someone who is steller at portraits, but most of their actual sprites are only passable. Though they oddly do some tough detail stuff really well. It is just hard to tell who or how many people are doing what, so it is harder to judge the quality.

im sure its a group just like us, with many
Title:

But where is their forum?
Title:
Post by: stewelement on August 01, 2008, 03:22:57 pm
I was surprised to see Auron in that pack...he's my current project. Part of me was disappointed that he looks like boothole, and the other, bigger part was excited because I know I can do better. The Vincent and Cid sprites were really good though.
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on August 01, 2008, 03:27:04 pm
Definitely keep working on Auron. Vincent is the one of the best of them though.
Title:
Post by: CidIII on August 01, 2008, 03:32:16 pm
Vincent still needs a little touching up.
Title:
Post by: KazeKasano on August 02, 2008, 02:02:56 pm
I looked through everything again this morning, and realized that Firion's portrait really isn't cutting it. I mean, it works as a temporary thing, but Amano's artwork wouldn't mesh well with the other portraits in the game. I'm going to attempt to make a good portrait, but I wouldn't know how to put it in and make it work, if anyone would do that...

Edit: I hope this portrait works. I'm not sure if it uses too many colors or not.
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on August 02, 2008, 03:09:54 pm
I would say that is actually a good start. I would recommend continuing to work on it. The limit is 16 colors.
Title:
Post by: KazeKasano on August 02, 2008, 06:17:54 pm
Is there an easy way to apply the color limit to it?
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on August 02, 2008, 10:40:20 pm
If you have Photoshop it has a great tool for doing it. Image->Mode->Indexed Colors->

Then choose the kind of limiting you want to do. Experiment with it and it will make sense really fast.

Quote from: "Zozma"these people arent near as good as i thought they were...

Maybe everyone was super impressed because of the sheer number of "new" sprites found?
Title:
Post by: KazeKasano on August 03, 2008, 01:14:59 am
Photoshop says It's got 33 colors... Any ideas on which ones I need to axe?

Edit: 16 colors now! The face looks weird because PhShp sacrificed some of the darker skin tones... but at normal size it looks good.
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on August 03, 2008, 01:22:28 am
The tool I directed you too will automatically limit them, hopefully if you have a relatively current addition. Just go under the first pull down menu after you chose Index Colors and it will give you different styles of color reduction. You can then input how many colors you want it to limit to (16). Hopefully that helps.

Here's a comparison I made, showing the Firion sprite (FFT), the portrait I made for him, the artwork of Firion from DISSIDIA: Final Fantasy (which I used as a reference), and his in battle sprite from the FF II Remakes.

Yeah but you need the palette's, it's a real pain in the ass.
Title:
Post by: Kenshin72 on August 22, 2008, 07:11:00 pm
Yeah, its the damn palettes that make it hard. If I had those I would have assembled them all by now.
Title:
Post by: SentinalBlade on August 22, 2008, 07:12:02 pm
Ahh, i forgot they had no palletes...fair enough...ill open photoshop and and extract the pallets and things. no big deal. ill add them here when i get access to my photoshop again xD
Title:
Post by: CidIII on August 22, 2008, 07:13:59 pm
Photoshop can extract palette's? Sweet.
Title:
Post by: Kenshin72 on August 22, 2008, 09:18:04 pm
CidIII you have photoshop?
If you do I'd be mighty happy if you got some of the palettes for me.
Title:
Post by: CidIII on August 22, 2008, 11:36:37 pm
No, I do not; however, I can do you one better.

I found a program that exports .pal files!

It works great just tried it.

Go to this site: http://www.alister.eu/palsuite/downloads.html (http://www.alister.eu/palsuite/downloads.html)

Download Version 2.32

Start it up, and open the bitmap file (.bmp, I know you probably know this

   :D

pal files.... do you think it works on effect files?
Title:
Post by: CidIII on August 23, 2008, 12:22:53 am
It cannot open .BIN files or .SPR file, don't know what file extension they are...
Title:
Post by: Zozma on August 23, 2008, 12:24:00 am
and if you were to rename the file type...?
Title:
Post by: Vanya on August 23, 2008, 12:25:51 am
According to my sources they do use a 256 color palette. I'm sure that one of the colors present in the file has to be the 'clear' color. Maybe if you convert a file into a bmp and view the palette we'd learn something useful.
Title:
Post by: CidIII on August 23, 2008, 12:26:24 am
I renamed E005.BIN to E005.bmp and it still couldn't open it.
Title:
Post by: CidIII on August 23, 2008, 12:28:29 am
When I try to open with InfraView it says "Decode error"

"Can't load plug-in QUICKTIME.DLL"

*Edit, I loaded quicktime.dll and it still has a decode error*

**Edit what do you mean convert, actually convert it or just rename?**
Title:
Post by: Vanya on August 23, 2008, 12:34:12 am
FFTView.exe is the only known program that can open effect files and convert them into BMP format. Effect files contain a lot of compressed data and non-graphical data.

I just wish the damn thing could insert BMPs back into the effect file.

http://www.weethet.nl/english/video_yam ... screen.php (http://www.weethet.nl/english/video_yami715_customscreen.php)

Can YST do it?
Title:
Post by: Vanya on August 23, 2008, 01:09:24 am
Probably not. It might be worth a try though. The thing is we need to know the compression method.
