Does anyone know if there is a sprite of Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 4?
I've been looking for one all over the place and haven't found one.
I guess I could try and make one if no one else has.
Sprite requests, go in the sprite request section. Even though you are mostly asking if such a sprite exists, it still goes there. Please repost in that thread.
I tried my hand at it, and I think for a beginning to him I did a decent job. For my first one ever of course.
I used the Shadow sprite as a base and simply recolored it.
Ventai, use the FFT's colours. It'll be easier for you to replace besides the ones you choose look very bad.
Thanks for the tip, I plan to change the colors around though. Right now I'm changing the facial features to make it look more like Raiden, when I'm done I'll redo the colors.
UPDATE: I decided to restart from scratch. Any pointers; or flaws I may have missed? This is just one sprite, if it's good, I'll start on making the other sprites.
EDIT: Sorry for the double post by the way.
Post it in 2x & 3x so we can see it better.
That's basically standard practice around here when you want feedback.
Ah, I noticed others doing it. I'll go ahead and do it now.
Thanks for the tip.
EDIT: When I try and do that, it looks very blurry. How can I fix that?
Just use Paint and change the size to 200%x200% or 300%x300%.
Okay, this is the larger views. Like I said, it looks really blurry.
Man, you have a lot of work to do but just focus. First, fix the hair specially that weird aura-thing of the sides. Second define his chin. Third and the most difficult, fix the body. It looks too flat and you have a lot to shadowing. I hope you don't give up this sprite.
For future reference, Ventai, please don't upload .bmps. They're a lot bigger than .pngs, and thus can cause pages to load really slowly for people with bad (i.e, Australian) internet. :P
Ahh, okay, thanks, I thought I was supposed to post them in .bmps Lol
I don't plan to give it up. If someone could point me to a tutorial on it though, it'd help... I know there's one around here but I can't find it for the life of me.
By the way, the hair wasn't meant to have any aura's around it XP
I meant for it to just look a little messy, rofl. I've got a bit more work cut out for me.
Thanks for the tips guys.
EDIT: Do you think the vest would look better blue? I feel like it looks like a hole in his chest with it black, and I could use more shades with blue to give it a shadow
EDIT2:Here's an update, I feel like some area's have improved, but I'm not a big fan of the hair (I suck with hair xD)
What the f is this? Flatness all over the sprite. Use copy/paste for now, NEVER do custom work now, get better first.
I tried to do copying and pasting, but it worked out a LOT worse than this one. =/
Any idea's on sprites I could use to copy and paste?
I have no idea what you could use to do this. Raiden is a modern-looking cyborg. There is nothing like that in FFT. And show me the copy/paste version.
There are some parts I like better, but otherwise it's just looks REALLY messy.
From what I can see, Ninja's head would work well for Raiden. As to rest of the body, I have no idea what is goin on there.
That's exactly what I mean xD
I'll try the ninja's head then.
.... yo, ASMO??!
Could you guys give some input besides calling for Asmo, please?
Fear not, I'm here.
It's really hard to decipher what I'm looking at on this last sprite. Although the confusion stems from every single part of the sprite, it's all the same problem. You have erratic coloring. And I'm specifically calling this coloring, because it can't be called shading, cause A) these colors aren't the same shades B) they don't look like shadows C) it's a series of dots and pixels. Take a look at an unadulterated male Ninja sprite. You have a clear clothing shape, shades of blue (or whatever the palette you decide to look at), and shadows suggesting a specific light source. Now look at your latest sprite. White pixels, off-white pixels, blue pixels, green pixels. What are we looking at? Is this a design? A pattern? Your light colors are all too close to each other and your dark colors are all too close each other. There's no depth, shadow, or shape anywhere on this sprite. I don't even know what's going on with the head, so it's hard to comment.
Here's what you need to do. Take one base sprite. Cut and paste pieces from other sprites. Clean up the palette. Post previews for us to comment on.
I know that this sounds overly critical, but we want you to make quality sprites. You can do it. Lots of our quality spriters started with works very similar to yours, no joke. They just needed a push in the right direction and suggestions on how to work on their sprites. I hope this post helped ya out, man. Good luck.
Basically, mav nailed it all. Choose a base, copy/paste parts from other sprites that meets the requirement of your sprite (eg: Male Ninja Head + Shrine Knight Arm + Wiegraf Leg + Squire Chest), clean up, some necessary adjustments.
Good luck.
ok, you want some input besides calling for asmo to do it? well alright, you need to borrow from other sprites, and that includes the color palette, because with the way it is shaded/colored it doesnt look like it belongs in the game at all.
basically, i also agree with Mav here. but it is really bad, I suggest that you borrow color palettes from other sprites untill you are used to FFT shading style.... I'm not trying to offend you but, I have to call it like i see it.
It's cool Zozma, it's my first sprite, I'm not expecting to be any good at it, lol.
Thanks for the the tips guys. I'll be trying to work on it pretty soon, I've been pretty busy lately.
trust me, it works wonders to borrow parts, and palettes. especially arms. it saves so much time and looks quality too.
Well, I have plenty of free time tonight, so hopefully I'll see some progress.
EDIT: Is there a sheik sprite? If not I'll work on one, when I was experimenting with hairs/head pieces for Raiden I made something that resembles Sheik.
UPDATE: Alright, I did a little work, and I couldn't find anything that would have any good hair for Raiden, so I figured I should see how it looks before I get too far. I just put it on Snakes body.
So what do you guys think? I took the suggestion from earlier about the ninja's head.
Hey, now you're getting the idea. See now you can tell it's a person, more defined.
