Title: Prevent movement in skills with a CT?
Post by: Vanya on July 15, 2008, 04:08:59 pm
I'm trying to make a sword skill that has a charge time, but I don't want the character to be able to move after selecting it's target. Is this doable?

The only things that seem to have that are Charge, I don't think we can apply that to normal skills.

That's what I thought, but thanks anyway. Do you have any suggestions for a way to limit a weapon based skill?

Well it depends, what do you mean by weapon based?

It's my Warrior's Heavy Strike skill. it uses formula 02 to execute a normal damaging attack. It thus has a 25% chance to execute the 'Angel Song' skill's effect which I modified. Angel song is now uses formula 2D with Y=4 to cause about 25% more damage than normal. I wanted it to have a charge time since I don't really have a way to control its hit rate.
I don't want it to use MP since my Knights have a skill called Power Slash costs 10 MP to do more damage than a normal attack. It's kinda like a very basic Holy Sword skill.

Ah, well now 25% chance to deal extra damage is simply a given, though normal Charging should work fine, not being able to move after using it (why would you really move without using it? If one were given the choice?)

The thing is that if you move after using it still strikes the target. I noticed that Rad used it in this fashion during testing. Then I tried it myself with the same result. You have to be next to the target if you use a short range weapon, but not for the strike to hit and the AI knows it.

Ah, w4ll, is "targeting" checked? Notice in my first video,  that Lavian has a similar skill "Blade Flurry" now though she wasn't next to her proposed opponent she still struck the air (or not harming Agrias).

Targeting is checked, should it be off?

Yes. Targeting allows the AI to set the area to "Unit" and it will follow that unit wherever the caster or target goes.

I'm not sure it completely solves your problem though, as it might automatically hit "Panel" and the caster would still be able to run away.

I tried it with targeting unchecked, but it still does the same thing.
