Barring any weird unforeseen in-game antics I may need to fix, I'm calling this sprite complete. I have tested in-game and he looks good. Bouncy hair and swinging bandanas for everyone!!
Fixed spr file, this is the true final version.
Looks awesome. Maybe a less bright shades of orange for the hair, but I would have to see it in game to see if it was actually anything to worry about. Absolutely awesome work.
Looks really cool, especially for your first sprite.
really well done.
Two thumbs up.
Oh wow you even have a sway too the bandanna tie, super cool.
I'm glad you all like it. I currently have no way of testing in-game, but I really enjoy spriting, so once it's complete I'm anxious to see Crono in-game (particularly the hair and bandana animations). I'm sure there will need to be some tweaking on the colors and animations as well.
It looks awesome! What base are you using?
I'll try inserting your partial and take some screens if you like.
Vanya, if you would, I'd be much obliged. The base I'm using is the squire.
Alright, I'll do it some time tomorrow and PM you the screenies. =)
Here is the complete sprite, I wouldn't say it's finished just yet, as I would like to see it in game first and touch up whatever needs it. I never thought I'd get through all the arms. Let me know what you think!
Very good. I'm thinking the geen might need some monor adjustments too. But structurally it looks great.
Nice work.
So darker green on the eyes? Most of the colors I pulled right off the SNES sprite. The eyes do stand out from all the rest though. One thing I'm noticing is his bandana is grey and blends in with his tunic as you see it at on several of the back sprites, but it is, in fact, the same off white color in each instance. Why some are greyed out and some are the right color, I have no idea. Suggestions?
I was thinking more that you needed a one of your green shades a little lighter because in the rear views it looks a little too dark. It might be that your shades are fine and you just need lighter shades back there. These are all just minor issues though.
Just wanted to let you know that I'm working on converting your PNG to an SPR file. As soon as I get a chance I'll finish it up and tested. Also, I took the liberty of darkening one of the hair shades. It was a red shade that was way to similar to another red shade you were using. If you want, I send you the .SPR when I'm done.
i think now i might make the CC version of Flea lol.....
=D
If we get the trio in the end, I want to put Ozzie's pants on Cid's head.
haha yeah i think they should have just called them "accessories" instead of saying that those last 3 slots were "headgear" slots
Here's Rad playing the roll of Crono.

It's Rad/Crono's turn.

(I think the portrait is slightly misaligned.)
Pulling back to lay the proverbial smackdown.

I think you should drop the knot off of his scarf. As you have it now, the scarf knot will appear and disappear in various animations. Also the scarf could stand to have a little more depth of color. Does anyone remember what our color limit is by the way? Also, I don't like how shiny his hair is, but I understand that is the way the original charater looked.
I hope I wasn't over critical.
I couldn't decide what to do with that scarf knot. I think I'll take it out if it will appear/disappear constantly.
I'm curious about how the animations turned out as well. I'd like to make this sprite as solid as possible...I'm a bit obsessed with quality (especially when it comes to my own favorite characters) and I'll keep working on this as long as I need to.
Particularly the hair. I want the hair to be perfect.
Crono with a bad haircut...equals the doom of mankind.
What is holding you back from testing it yourself? And actually you can do a lot just with the new version of ShiShiSpriteEditor, it has a really snazzy preview mode.
As a Mac OSX user I had to spend lots of time jumping through hoops to get all this stuff working for me, but it was well worth it.
In game it looks good so far. I haven't seen any problems in shishi, either.
I would get rid of the knot, too.
i agree with kuraudo on the color depth of the scarf too, also the orange does still seem too strong when compared to the color shading the rest of the game has. i think its more important for it to match FFT than to match its original color in CT. after that this sprite seems to be perfect.
Well, I agree with everyone about the colors, stewelement. You do have 2 nearly identical reds and 2 nearly identical browns that you can work with.
As far as animation goes, it seems to work perfectly. Revise the palette and it'll be perfect. =)
So in my rush to get the sheet posted here I didn't double check the color count...how embarrassing. Thanks for straightening me out Vanya (double thanks for the screenshots.) I have cleaned it all up though and removed the scarf knot. Actually I've made the scarf less prominent all around. Since it is a much smaller detail (2 pixels wide at the most) now, I won't add a third orange shade to it. I will darken the lower orange shade slightly but I don't want to make it brown or blonde/yellow like most of the sprites in the game have. I have two colors to play with now and I think I'll touch up the tunic and the pants.
I am new to all of the FFTPatcher business, so I was unaware that the ShiShiSpriteEditor had a preview mode. I thought I'd have to ask you, Cheetah, but I found it myself, lol, thanks for pointing it out.
I'll have the newest revision of Crono up soon. Thanks to all for your help.
Awesome, I can't wait to see it.
I asked this question earlier, but does anyone remember what the max color count is?
16 per palette
Sprite and portrait uses different palettes.
Big Z, this may be a completely absurd question, but hypothetically could there be any way that that could be increased? If that could be increased, spriting possibilities would expand incredibly. The limitations are rather annoying. I almost 100% sure that you are gonna tell me 'no', but I figure that it could hurt to ask.
Chrono, sorry for hijacking your thread.
I'm having no luck with the error I'm getting in ShiShi. So close...
with the colors, try de-saturating them a bit and they'll look waaay better...but i do like this.
i'd like to see a sprite of purim from SD2 (doesn't ayia, sp., look like her?) and rhandi from SD2 (doesn't chrono look like him?.....hmm?)

Do you want me to post the SPR I made? Or I could mail it to you.
I re-uploaded the latest version of Crono on the first post of this thread. Check out the new PNG and try it in ShiShi and see what that error is all about.
Ok.
The problem is that you have the portrait colors in the wrong palette entries.
Take a look at this in your gfx prog and pay close attention to the palette.
Also, I think there's an alignment problem with the portrait in your version. I shifted in this one.
I'm using GraphicsGale, it generates the palette from left to right, up and down. What is the easiest way to rearrange the colors into the way that ShiShi needs them to be? How do you determine correct color placement for FFT sprite palettes?
man I wish I knew how to sprite
Voldemort, you stay good at what you do. If you could sprite too, I'd have to kill you.
@ Voldemort
Kuraudo is right...you can't have all the talent
But lucky for us we all learned to share. A little. Sometimes.

I use a different program, so try comparing your's to the one I posted. You should see a difference.
I use NeoPaint, and the way it shows up is that there are 8 columns & 32 rows. (8*32=256.) Each column holds 2 16 color palettes. The first 8 groups of 16-color palettes are for the sprite, the second set is for portraits.

Numbers are sprite palettes, letters are portrait palettes.
They correspond like this:
Sprite ->
Portrait1 -> A
2 -> B
3 -> C
4 -> D
5 -> E
6 -> F
7 -> G
8 -> H
Hope that clears it up! =)
So I was making things a bit too complicated. I adjusted things and I got it all to work. I uploaded the 98.5% complete .PNG and also the .SPR file on the front page. Let me know what you all think!
Try to stop me
First page has the completed sprite, screenshot, and preview.
Great job on the sprite! He's going in my patch. But I need help with his skillset. Anyways click the link in my signature if you want to help.
nice job, i hope you're planning on some more sprites, your pretty good.
Looks great! I knew you'd do a good job. Bravo! =)
Thanks all, if you run into any weirdness in-game or in ShiShi let me know and I'll try my best to fix it.
@ Zozma - I've got something else coming soon. I'm moving next week so it will be a bit before I get working on it, but it is in the works.
@ Cyberblade - Shouldn't be too hard to mesh Crono's techs with FFT abilities, but, I'm just an artist, I haven't even begun to n00b the FFT patcher utility. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
So I am an idiot and I didn't upload the true final version of the sprite. Well I fixed that problem. Sorry to those who already downloaded the sprite file, please re-download.The real final version is up now. Now with bouncy-er hair! Just like the real Crono!
