Sure you can use Paint to edit also you can use Graphic Gale and you can edit the color palette of the sprite, in my opinion if you want an easy edit of a sprite use Graphic Gale.

Here's a guide I found.
MAKE YOUR OWN SPRITE 1. OPEN PWNAGE MS PAINT 2. DRAW 3. PASTE OTHER SPRITES THERE TO HELP U
Yeah, that's pretty much it.

I thought my guide was clear enough.. Eh.
MAEK YOUR OWN SPRITE V.2 -WITH STEPS
-Forget Graphics gale. Open paint. -Go to the sprite section in FFH -Right click on a sprite and select copy -Go back to paint, right click and select paste -Whoa, a sprite! -Get as many as you want, then take the brush tool and make your own -You can draw over an existing sprite to make yours -You may want to take parts from other sprites and mix them up with the select tool -Make your sprite
For complete sheets, you have to export a BMP from shishi and edit For palletes, you can easily take them from other sprites with the color drop tool in Paint
In other words, 1. OPEN PWNAGE MS PAINT 2. DRAW 3. PASTE OTHER SPRITES THERE TO HELP U
EDIT: Now you know how to make sprites. But before you start, you might want to check out the rules. (Copypasta, this should really get stickied, again)
THE UNWRITTEN ABSOLUTE RULES FOR MAKING DECENT FFT PIXELWORK BROUGHT TO YOU BY YOURS TRULY
FIRST, DON'T TRY TO SCRATCH SPRITE THINKING LIKE A KNOW IT ALL; FORGET THAT EGO AND START WITH EDITS, ALWAYS. THERE IS NO BETTER WAY.
SECOND, DON'T USE YOUR OWN COLORS, USE THE FFT ONES. THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH IS THAT THERE IS ENOUGH FOR EVERYTHING, AND ALL OF US MUST BELIEVE THIS BY FAITH. (I could bet this was probably suggested before)
THIRD, HAVE A CRAPLOAD LOT OF REFERENCES
FOURTH, USE A SIMILAR PALLETE FROM OTHER FFT SPRITES. KEEP ALL THE BLACKS, BROWNS AND WHITE AND USE THEM ACCORDINGLY
FIFTH, NO BANDING, PILLOWING OR HARSH OUTLINING. THIS IS ABSOLUTE
SIXTH, HAVE A CRAPLOAD OF REFERENCES
SEVENTH, SAME AS SIX
EIGHT, IF THERE'S A BETTER ONE DONE ALREADY, YOU CAN ALWAYS IMPROVE ON IT INSTEAD OF WASTING TIME MAKING ANOTHER ONE!!!
NINTH, IF YOU ARE UNSURE ON HOW TO SHADE, GET YOUR REFS UP AND TRY AND COPY THE STYLE! KEEP EXPERIMENTING AND YOU'LL GET IT RIGHT EVENTUALLY!
TENTH, POST YOUR PREVIEWS IN x1 AND x3 SIZES, ANY BIGGER = SHIT AND WILL BOTHER.
ELEVENTH, JPG = SHIT
(This should be made a thread and stickied, as well as open to improvements too. Who agrees?)

I wouldn't worry about palettes, you're treating it like its a separate entity from the bmp itself which only makes it confusing. the palette is just a "list" of colors that are used in a particular picture, so you cannot have a picture without a palette. for example: in a picture of a typical apple, the palette would be: red (fruit) brown(stem) green(leaf) white(shine on apple/background?). black(shadow?/outline?) this uses a palette of 5 colors. when doing a sprite, you may use up to 16 colors.

Oh and, once you have a sprite to show, you can post it to recieve critique.
People tell you what's wrong, how to fix, give suggestions and opinions, and may even edit your sprite. No need to feel ashamed or attacked, use the critique to further improve your sprite, and your skills. Practice is the key.

1. open Shishi sprite editor 2. File --> open ISO --> load fft iso 3. it may tell you to expand the iso if this is the first time (insure you have a backup clean fft) 4. look through the list of sprites, find one similar to the one you want to make (use it as a base) 5. next to "File" click "Sprite" --> Export BMP 6. get to work! D:

Okay thanks, got that one. Also how do people transfer body and armor over? Like i saw Ramzas head on Wiegrafs Chapter 1 suit. How is that possible?

Just copy/paste using Pwnage MS Paint. Though, you'll have to set up the palettes so that they are correct as Wiegraf and Ramza's palettes are different.
Steps: -Open GIMP (I'm the only one using this, if I'm not mistaken. Others used GraphicGale.), which can be download by googling it. -Open up Wiegraf's sheet and Ramza. -On your right side, you'll see a small window that have the colours of the sheet. If you don't, then go to windows option or tools (I forgotten; don't have access to GIMP now) and open up that window (colourmap or something). -Next, copy/paste the colour, let say Ramza's head on top Wiegraf's body, copy/paste Ramza's palettes onto Wiegraf's. -Some necessary tweaks if needed. -And you're done.

Or do it manually. As long as the things you want to mix have the pallete of the main sheet, there's no prob.

I recomend you revert to the ramza you had before THEN find a cape that you like with minimal editing and then cut that (using the lasso tool or whatever its called in paint) and drag it over to your ramza, then do your edits to it.

Man! I thought for a minute Smash was again active.
Since I've decided to post last minute: hello and goodbye FFH, I love you.
I'm going away for about two months as I usually do at this time of year-
don't forget about me. This is my favorite website.
I hope I find many new dreams come true at my return. Sorry Twinees I don't have time to update your sprites with their new portraits; they look amazing and I'm truly impressed by the new breakthrough you've had, and the effort you've put into revamping them (hope you end up reading this). Bug Xifanie to update til I return.
Farewell all :_____| |||| (edit: sincerely I will miss the people at work here)

You'll be back sooner than ever and I'm sure there'll be a ton of new sprites waiting for you. :D

I will jump on it ASAP once I return and settle down somewhere. (I've also moved due to constant partying and senselessness in this building) also- Formerdeathcorps, sorry I haven't quite finished Corsa. Know that I intend to.

See you Kage, thanks for the quick replies both of you: Eternal and yourself, I am very grateful. I can't wait; it'll be very nice to check this forum out after such a break. I usually do so every day but when you are gone for a spell it is very refeshing to see so many updates.. I hope to see many from you Kage. You have done so much great work.
Edit: and yay Twin has responded before my post! Thank you... hopefully all will go perfectly well. Keep it up my friend.
