A: Yes. I don't remember the name of the file, but there is a file that contains one frame from each unit with corresponding palettes.
Basicaly what generics don't appear in the event scenes like that male thief at dortor thats talking to vormav.
I don't know what jobs aren't used for event sequences. But I do know that you can change the graphics for the event sequences.
quickly skimming through the entd tab in fftpatcher it looks like geomancers, mediators, bards, dancers, calcs, summoners, and oracles never have any real scenes where altering their battle sprites would make an event scene not match up with the actual battle.
And whoever designed the story battles had a thing for knights, wizards, and archers.
ah you're planning on changing those because they dont have any cutscenes? well unit.bin contains the single frames but you also have a problem because we dont have something that fully decompresses wldface.bin (the faces on the menu)
Idealy id like to replace the formation/battle sprites for male and female geo/oracle/mediator with minimal impact on the rest of the game. It's mainly minor alterations to the heads like removing the silly mediator hats and changing the torso/legs slightly. little tweaks that make the sprites less anoying for me to look at, especialy the geos i just can't bring myself to use them the way they look now. ugh.
