Title: Portrait
Post by: Kenshin72 on June 27, 2008, 12:40:47 am
Umm... I swear there was a topic on this earlier but I can't find it now.
How do you rip portraits so you can edit them? And how do you re-insert them?

How i do it is open graphics gale then switch it to the portraits palette. Then edit it while its tuned sidways XD then switch it back to the sprites pallete.

Plus check out some of my (lame) work in the Re Paletted sprites topic XD

Most character portraits are just part of the sprite sheets for the character, just associated with a different palette then the sprites. There are a lot of extra portrait for story characters that can be found in a few files in the Event folder of the cd image.

No offense, but I still don't understand.
Only thing I can see is Palette 1 where the face is all messed up.
I use Idraw and Paint by the way.

Open up the SPR files using ShiShiSpriteEditor, from melonheads FFTPatcher tools. Then the portrait should look correct with the newest version of ShiShi or you can select the palette to look at and after the sprite palettes are the portrait palettes, and then just export it.

Kenshin uses the psp version so is it different from the psx? Well after i was poking through the files in event i noticed that WLDFACE and WLDFACE4 have the portraits in it so maybe if u do wat Cheetah said it should work.

Here is a lot of the sprites with there portraits.

If you are trying to get the portraits out of the WLDFACE.BIN files it is a totally different process.

carerful if you open wldface.bin with shishi youll notice that obviously its partially compressed... if you even save the file youll screw it up.

wldface4 on the other hand i think you might be able to edit without problem since its smaller......

This has nothing to do with the wldface.
I'm just trying to modify a portrait from a sprite sheet.
I can post a pic of what's happening if necessary.

it might help to do so,

what i useually do is backup my file and change the first 16 colors of the sprite to match the portraits colors so that i can see the portrait properly.
then the sprite itself will look wrong but you can always import the original color palette in shishi.

This is an example.
As you see the face is all messed up.

I never thought of your idea Zozma. I'll try it out.
