Been playing around with FFTPatcher and I'm wondering if its possible to do a few things with the PSX version and im just missing how to do it.
1.) Thrown items inflicting status effects 100% of the time.
2.) New Abilitys that can only target/effect monsters.
3.) New Abilitys that have random results.
1 - only by making the item do status effects 100% of the time.
2 - no, not until the formula's can be changed or hacked.
3 - sort of, the best there is is a damage formula that has a 25% chance of triggering a second skill instead of itself.
Hope that clears it up for you.
More or less. Thank you.
Can you explain more about that damage formula? I don't recall any of the stock abilitys doing anything like that. Unless you mean the few abilitys that select a random status effect like clouds Finishing Touch limit.
First off, do you have the newest version of the patcher?
If you do, the description for formula 02 says that it will cast a spell indexed using the inflicted status byte. So if you use that formula and set your inflicted status to 01, then the skill (or weapon) will cast cure 25% of the time. It works with any skill but you have to figure out which skill has which hex value. They're not numbered.
Status effects on ninjas "Throw" command and in particular shurikens just dosent want to work no mater what i try. So much for making "Throw" usefull for more then just collecting high level weapons off ninja enemys.
I don't know what game you're playing but Throw is an amazing skillset. Good instant damage at move range, can be carried very well on some other classes and has minor damage to counter sleep, confusion and charm, all of which you see a lot of in 1.3 at least.
Vanilla version of the game;
Throw is pretty underutilized untill you reach high levels and start collecting the stronger weapons, at which point you probably have better jobs and abilitys available to you for dealing with those situations anyway.
One of my bigest gripes with the game is that it quickly turns into a game of everything killing everything in 1-2 attacks. I prefer a long battle of attrition and positioning over the one hit ko -> pheonix down loop. So now that ive found this site here with its yummy tools and documentation I'm slowly seeing what i can do to make the game match my personal tastes.
Setting an inflicted status in the item tab doesn't work?
I sense the makings of a gambler job. (screenshots bellow)
And despite the heavy status infliction going on gaffy still killed everyone....
Night Sword is so cheap.
