Looks good but the portrait looks like the pig in clown makeup :D

I agree, the sprite looks good, but the portrait needs help. You might also think about giving it squinty eyes.

You mind posting a PNG preview of your sprite? I'm just at work and can't look at the spr right now.

I second the PNG preview idea.

Good to see you are still poking around Kuraudo.

like i said, anyone who wants to help on it is welcome. i only had the original colors from the first palette to work with since i really didn't want to go through the pain of matching two different palettes by sight alone on my first try...

oh, and it does look like a clowned-out pig...! i'll be re-doing the portrait some other time, though...

I've been working on new monster colors, so I'll volunteer to do the other colors for this one. The FF9 & Crystal Chronicles have lots of alternate moogle colors to work with.

Haha it looks quite good. With just a little bit more editing on the ears it could be a really good moogle.

The artwork of the moogle summon can be the portrait.

That's a great idea. I hadn't even thought of that.

Post by: BeoulveBlack on June 16, 2008, 05:44:53 pm
i'm thinking about using the wildbo(ar)w's palette for the portrait, then redoing the eyes, shrinking the ears (thats what makes it really look moogle like)

my next sprite will be Lise (Riese) from SD3, since she's my fave on that game, and the female thief is an EXCELLENT start for her and i'll actualy be able to use (the same) 16 colors for both the sprite and palette and have them look good (since its mostly green and blond for her (3-4 greens, 6-7 white to tan/blond to brown, 2 red/pinks, 1-2 blues, and 1 transparency)

thanks for the support everyone, i'm still thinking about a tonnberry from the byblos sprite (hunched over posture, anyone? brown and purple, perfect!)

If you want you could use this portrait for your sprite
or you could base from it if you'll create your own.

Looks good.

Only thing I'd do is put some reds in the nose. other wise it looks great.

Post by: BeoulveBlack on June 20, 2008, 12:41:44 am
yeah, i'll definitely be doin that soon. lately, i've been bogged by work and other projects as well. i'm creating a custom job on top of everything else with a new look (perhaps the avatar character...?)

i'll rework a good portrait of a moogle for the sprite sheet son enough.

also, i do thank everyone for their interest in my meager spriting venture

Hey BeoulveBlack,

I'm working on a series of videos called the Chronicles of Kanbabrif.
If you aren't familiar with my work, there's a topic on the New Projects board, and an even larger topic on the PS Gamefaqs board.

Part I can be viewed here:

www.museofoblivion.com/kwrath1.html (http://www.museofoblivion.com/kwrath1.html)

The video is a little over half an hour long, though, so check that out when you have the time for it.

Anyways, I'd like to use your moogle sprite for Part II, with your permission. You'd get a spot in the end credits, and a chance to see your little guy become a star!
Title:
Post by: BeoulveBlack on June 20, 2008, 02:11:52 pm
i watched the video and it's great man; awesome work! i have no problem with the sprite being used, besides it being an honor, this sprite is for any and everyone; i just hope that everyone will continue to enjoy this game the way that i do (or did, since life tends to catch up real fast).

before you use the sprite that's currently u/l'd, let me re-u/l a better one with  one of the frames fixed and hopefully the portrait changed.

it'll be fun when i get the rabite and Corbin (the av char)done! i'll try to include palettes for each manifestation in the SD series (rabite, rabillion, great rabite, black rabite, etc.)

P.S. what's the first graphic (where it gets all dark and spacy-looking) in the starry frog spell from? i'd love to use it for a skill
Title:
Post by: Zozma on June 21, 2008, 02:56:28 am
starry frog spell? maybe you mean "Toad 2" ?
Title:
Post by: Bastard Poetry on June 21, 2008, 05:41:43 am
Zozma, he's referring to my video. Y-you.. You haven't seen it yet!? Your name's in the credits, man.  :P

Quote from: "BeoulveBlack"P.S. what's the first graphic (where it gets all dark and spacy-looking) in the starry frog spell from? i'd love to use it for a skill

That'd be Blind 2.. The greatest spell animation in the whole game!

And thanks for the permission, BeoulveBlack! You're going to love the character he's used for.

I don't want to pressure you or anything, but I will anxiously look forward to the completion of his sprite!

sweet video i just watched it, I really enjoyed it! thanks for that ;) )

right now im trying to think up a good look for Zodiac, since in their VK patch Vincent and Karsten already have sprites.... (i have so many sprites to finish with the same quality i gave the misty and karsten sprites... that i overwhelmed myself and took a total break from it for a while...)
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on June 21, 2008, 01:08:22 pm
Ah, Kanbabrif is a pure showman, at least 9/10's pf his spells pull out a Combination of Galaxy Stop or Haste 2, hehe. It adds opportunity for Bastard Poetry to put a spell name accompanying the graphic without it interrupting any of the graphics.
Title:
Post by: BeoulveBlack on June 21, 2008, 08:22:57 pm
here's the fixed one. the palette for the portrait's been fixed a bit, as well as one of its attacking frames (his wing was a bit long to me...)

in a little while i'll have a nice sprite for myself and i'll put it up for anyone who wants it; wont be too fancy, but it'll be cool i hope.
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on June 21, 2008, 10:51:28 pm
Sometimes these things can be a little big and it isn't an issue. Other times they wont actually work in game or get garbled. Have you actually tested him in game yet?

From the experiences I've had I don't think that file will work, also I think the moogle should be more whitish, but thats just my opinion.

My file was just .5 kilobytes bigger and wouldn't work.
Title:
Post by: BeoulveBlack on June 22, 2008, 09:46:03 am
ok, so the problem was the color on the palette that the game usu. uses for the background instead of transparency. its been changed. now its 42.3 KB; this works now.

honestly, i would do them scratch, but i don't wanna fool with monster sprites like that; it's harder to tell what they're doing in any given frame, so i don't wanna screw too much with the positioning this time
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on August 24, 2008, 12:19:18 am
Hey Beoulve hopefully you get this. The moogle sprite is great, but did you make changes to the SPR2 file for the pig as well? There are quite a few attack animations in there that aren't done. Or at least I think that is what it is since the moogle got a little glitchy when I saw it in action doing attacks and I think it is because the pig as an SPR2 file that you didn't edit. Do you think you will be able to do it?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on August 24, 2008, 12:22:18 am
yeah there should be a matching sp2 file. it has no color palette so youll have to import the main files thru shishi, and then be sure replace the palette with the empty one when done.
Title:
Post by: Vanya on August 24, 2008, 02:55:28 am
Actually, it does have a grey-scale palette. I don't know if replacing it will affect the performance of the SP2 file. Might be a good idea to put the palette back after editing it.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on August 24, 2008, 04:15:43 am
exactly
Title:
Post by: BeoulveBlack on August 24, 2008, 08:03:23 am
the SPR2 file... ah! i was wondering what those were for. yeah, i'll get started on that after work today(ehhh?! work on sunday?!). i've also redone the portrait (it's the one from the moogle summon, but repaletted to match the moogle.

hopefully i'll have it done later today. sorry about that everyone, i normally don't 'attack' with my special monsters, so things like that often escape me...

PS
anyone who's interested, head over to the female sprite topic; i've posted a redone (edited) portrait for my next character, and i need opinions.
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on August 24, 2008, 11:58:37 am
Excellent, I will look forward to it.
Title:

hey everyone, unfortunately i got off real late tonight; i can either have the redone SP2 up late this eve or some time tomorrow
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on August 24, 2008, 10:17:11 pm
Oh, no rush, but I will look forward to it either way. Oh can you post your redone portrait so that I can see that?

Awesome work! Is it possible to make a Ivalice moogle?
Title:
Post by: CidIII on August 25, 2008, 03:44:26 am
From FFTA?
Title:
Post by: Vanya on August 25, 2008, 11:16:16 am
NO FAKE MOOGLES!!!! >=P

Kidding. It is possible, but I think it would be better to use a Type2 human as the base. Monsters won't have all the right animations for a FFTA moogle.
Title:

Yep.

Type 2 humans?

Type 1 = human characters and type 2 = monsters right? Or is type 2 NPC's?

Type 2 is short ppl.

dancers dont really look shorter to me...

... & some chicks.
Title:
Post by: BeoulveBlack on August 25, 2008, 09:09:39 pm
type 2's seem to be mage and mage-like classes...

all of your typical warrior classes (knight, squire, lancer, samurai) and special fighter classes (holy knight, divine knights, uber-squires, h. swordsman, etc) are type 1's, while funny stuff (dancer, bard, mime) and mages tend to be type 2
Title:
Post by: Zozma on August 25, 2008, 09:23:36 pm
mimes and calculators of both genders are type 2,

balmafula sure doesnt seem short but she is a type 2 as well

rafa, ovelia...

well they might have a few different stances perhaps? ive never paid attention
Title:
Post by: Vanya on August 25, 2008, 10:21:45 pm
Female Chemist is Type 2, I don't think the male is though.
Title:
Post by: BeoulveBlack on August 26, 2008, 08:43:58 pm
work is killing me.

alright, so i pulled the .SP2 out, imported the right palette, and went to work. sad to say, i got very little done! i'm headed back to Orlando for a day or two, spend some time with my chickens* and family, then headin' back...

anyone who wants to finish it is welcome to; it's easy since there are plenty of examples. i'll be done when i get back (heck, i may finish it while i'm there; in that case i'll u/l sometime tomorrow)

*some of their names are Choco (RIP**), Coco(RIP), Boco, World, Urans, Lightning Bolt, Dark Wind, Snowy Wind, Mizer, and Miki

**i have sooo many predators around my house; hawks, miniature foxes (Foxbird!!!!), racoons, possums, and not to mention a blood-thirsty shepherd that stalks my birds when my back's turned....

PS
where in the heck did SE get all those funny names for the monsters from?!
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on August 26, 2008, 09:12:34 pm
Looking great, I will definitely wait patiently for you to finish it up.
Title:
Post by: Skip Sandwich on August 29, 2008, 04:41:38 pm
Will this sprite be capable of being used as a special human job, thus allowing it to equip weapons and learn new skills and what not? Or will I have to create a Moogle monster job once this is done in order to get my SLAM-dancing fix?
Title:
Post by: Vanya on August 29, 2008, 04:52:56 pm
Just be looking at it I can tell you 'NO'. it would have to be reorganized over a human sprite.
Title:
Post by: BeoulveBlack on September 01, 2008, 10:02:26 pm
alright, here it is. the reason i left the .BMP in it's in-game palette is because if anyone decides to take the new portrait and place it over the old sprite sheet, they need to take the palette from this thing first, because some colors needed to be changed in order to accommodate the new portrait.

oh, and with the .PNG, i just inserted a proper palette portrait so you all could get a glimpse of it. REMEMBER to import the gray-scale palette before importing back into the EVENT section of the FFT.img

Title:
Post by: Zozma on October 19, 2008, 08:11:04 pm
so this is completed? how about submitting it to the main page, it would be the first monster sprite put up on the page...
Title:
Post by: BeoulveBlack on October 21, 2008, 11:24:33 am
i guess i can do that...

EDIT: as for skip sandwich's post, there is a possibility of making it into a human job...at the time it wasn't because of the unavailability of an easy template...but now that Zozma has finished the 10year olds, i could easily do a human style moogle
Title:
Post by: Zozma on October 21, 2008, 03:29:12 pm
10  year old boy needs to be re done, but theres always that 10 yo girl
Title:
Post by: BeoulveBlack on November 03, 2008, 11:55:44 am
alright, so i was tinkering with the humanoid moogle the other day, and it seems like there are gonna be a hell of a lot of bumps in the road...

you know how the pupils of the 10yo is set a few pixels lower than that of a typical adult? well, due o the head structure of the moogle, it has to be set a few pixels lower than that of the 10yo's! this is throwing off the parts of the face that the .SPR file/.SEQ file pastes over other parts, and the head structure alone is gonna be funny. i might have to get montblanc's sprites and base them off of his :/

but i am not giving up. i'll weather all of this, and when i get something good, i'll be sure to post.

PS
type 1 are for people with narrow shoulders and type 2 are for those with wider shoulders
Title:
Post by: Zozma on November 03, 2008, 03:25:05 pm
narrow shoulders, thats not necessarily true.

for a really short character you may have to leave out a few things probably, like the spellcasting animation, you might just have to delete the box with that face part as it might be too high for a shorty.
