Title: Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy VIII coming to PSN stores.
Post by: WinterICE on December 16, 2009, 10:48:04 am
Taken from the Playstation Network European blog (http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/12/10/%E2%80%98heads-up%E2%80%99-playstation-store-update-10th-december-2009/):

Nice update, this week :)
I’m looking forward to trying some Mini’s on my PS3!

I won’t bore you with my regular ‘FFVIII?’ question this week, but I *do* have another question for you!

Last month, the square enix newsletter said that Vagrant Story would be available on November 12th (I think… it was definitely dated for November though!). A couple of hours later, they sent a new email out but this time it said ‘coming soon…’
Any idea why they changed the release? Can we expect to see that or FF8 this side of Christmas?
*only 2 more updates to go!!!*

Date was changed because we never gave confirmation â€" it’s still in the emulation process at the moment, so we’ll see when it’s available (it won’t be this year however it seems).

From the looks of it, there's still some QA hiccups to go through (with PS1 classics, they run off their own in-built emulation instead of the PS3's owned botched backwards compatability, so that explains the holdup.

This is from the European blog, and no word on a release for the USA store yet, but if they do decide to release it on the USA store (I don't see why not, the only 'exclusive' PS1 classics Europe gets are trash TBH, it's disgraceful...Disney anyone? Heh, took them nearly a YEAR to get us MGS1 after its American release) I guess it won't be far behind, or you can just import a PSN card from the UK or some other EU territory with them (they go as far East as Germany if not further, I'm not entirely sure), and as it's region-free it'll work fine on any PS3 or PSP.

Can't wait to have these on my PSP...that said, I'm not even on to disc 2 of FF7 yet!

EDIT: fixed a typo and added poll.

Crap, can't edit the poll. I was going to split 'I don't care' into 'don't care because I already have them' and 'don't care because I dislike them'.

Only reason I don't care is because I'm a huge pirate and have had access to both those games for years on my PSP.

What model's your PSP? I keep hearing different stories of what models can and can't be CFW'd. My 2K is at 5.51 OFW, and some are saying it's too late, others say I can with Pandora, MMS, and ChickHEN.

If not, my only chance is to buy a new PSP - and if it's a 3000 I'll have to hunt down a solo 3K and hope it has 5.01 OFW.

From what I've seen, CFW rocks. The only thing that can save PSP Go is if someone develops CFW for it.

EDIT: UPDATE

This was sent in an email to US PSN users. It's confirmed for a US release too.

I have a 1k. It's always  pain to mod newer versions with up to date OFW, but just give them some time and it'll get cracked too.
From what I understand modding OFW 5.51 does require some manipulation with Pandora and ChickHen. Just google DarkAlex's forum to see what is most currently up.

I played through all of Vagrant Story on the PSP, aside from some Slight slow down when you were going from Third to First person, everything was Flawless. Also the way I set up the control scheme felt even more natural then the game on PS1, if one's to play VS I fully suggest to play it on PSP, in my opinion, the best way to play it.

Depending on what 2k model you have, it may not be too late. Do you remember what firmware it came with?

I have Vagrant Story on my memory stick now, but I still haven't played it much yet.

The camera slow down is just part of the original game actually LD. I too played through VS on my PSP though I kind of broke it in the process, though I did beat the game. Seems like a great game for replays and unlockables.

Hm... I'll look into Vagrant Story when I'm not quite so broke.  I look forward to FFIX much more than I care about VIII.

:(

FAIL.

I put my new copy of Dissidia in my PSP last night, and guess what message I got?

"To play this content, you must update your system software to version 5.55 or more."

5.55 is the 'no turning back' point for now, so I just thought 'fuck it' and went straight to 6.20.

Well, I didn't want to have to wait like 2 months to play the damn thing. Oh well. I suppose I can get another.

Dissidia is quite good, BTW.

PSN should be updating tonight. I wonder if we'll get either.

the fact that you registered just to say that makes me a sad panda.

NO WELCOMING FOR YOU.

Dang.  I see VIII available now, but no Vagrant Story.  I'd find Vagrant story more interesting (and I really should play through more than just the first boss eventually) and I suspect it might wind up up to $4 cheaper on top of that.  (No, that wasn't a typo.)

Admittedly, that was a small part of the reason I registered, but my main reason for joining was to learn how to make my own FFTstyled story. I am a bit nervous about the whole Hex Editing though.

The lack of a welcoming killed me inside.

Have you ever Played Vagrant Story? I don't mean to get on some rant, but this place is also about Respecting Matsuno's legacy, Vagrant Story is the second part of the Post Apocalyptic Ivalice (with FFT being the first) it is essential to understanding the inner workings of the world set in FFT's wake. So far your posts have been far from lustrous. You seem like a young fellow as to your preference of FF's, so I guess it would make sense that such a young man would have trouble appreciating true classics. If you plan on making an "FFT styled story" you should learn what you can about the source material. Ivalice has an extensive backstory and many little allusions to each other. Matsuno knew the meaning of Subtlety, which is seeming all but forgotten these days...

Wait, it's out on the US store now?

Lucky you...We should be getting it in January though, and I'm not THAT excited about it, so, meh.

And that, children, is how you disguise butthurt.

When I was 17 I played it(I am 24 now). My cousin Duke kept it and other games of his youth such as Chrono Cross, Secret of mana, and  other Japanese things. I generally like his taste in games and anime, so I played it as well.  I thought it wasn't very good and do so to this day.

My comment was hardly worth a call to arms, as it was mostly made in jest.

I was not aware "luster" was a forum requirement. I will be sure to polish my syntax up "real pretty like" next time, boss. My lack of appreciation for classics based on what brand of FF I like was a funny joke though.

By FFTstyled I meant a story that uses the aesthetics of Final Fantasy Tactics, not a story born from the womb of FFT's Mythos. My story concepts are more a strange cocktail of Persona Innocent Sin and Disgaea then FFT.
