Hi all,
So I've been absent from hacktics for awhile and would like to start contributing again. I've gotten lots of support for my commentary videos, so I figure I should do something along those lines.
I'd like to get some ideas from the community at large, namely: what kind of project would you like to see me undertake? Vote in the poll and give me some feedback. Thanks.
On a side note, I realize that not all these options are FFT-related. Now maybe some purists might not consider those contributing at all, but I'd rather do something than stop coming by entirely.
Hmm... a Let's Play could be interesting... do you like to play games you know back and forth (like HC Bailly's style?) Or do you prefer to be as clueless as many of your viewers when doing an LP?
I agree with LD. A Let's play will be fun. But problem is : for what game?
The Adventures of Lolo!
Play all three.
Lolo has good music
Do a let's play of some of the cool translation or hacking projects out there on RomHacking or other places. Make our art form a bit more well known. Like the new Castlevania SOTN retranslation (especially if you are familiar with the original and can comment on it) or the Snatcher or whatever Kojima project. That is definitely something I would like to see.

That's my conundrum. I think I'd rather do a game I know well, but that severely limits the pool of potential games to play through (since I'm not a very prolific gamer), and many have been LPed before. On the other hand, my gaming instincts aren't very good, so playing something "off the shelf" wouldn't be as smooth and could require more editing. I trust my commentary more than I trust my gaming!
Essentially:
Pre-planned Pros and Cons+ Streamlined gameplay
+ Creative presentation
+ Easier for me to prepare
- Fewer options for source material
- More viewers will already know the game
Off-the-shelf Pros and Cons+ Lots of game options
+ I get to play a new game
- ...while everyone watches me struggle
- Variable quality (overall, and per episode)
What are your options if it is pre-planned?
Do a Let's Play of Lunar after looking up the locations of all the bromides and Easter Eggs so you can make sure you show them all. (Just try not to spoil yourself to what they are when doing so.) The easter eggs can get pretty amusing, and seeing the reactions of others would make it even more amusing.
what about a compremise between the two options? Like a game you've played before but never finished, or only finished once or somesuch?

Let's see...
Final Fantasy FFVIII/IX could be epic, but they would require a huge commitment to finish and there are lots of other LPs of them out there.
Myst and/or Riven would be a great opportunity for a role-play LP, done totally first person as if I don't know what's going on (but the gameplay will still be planned). Might be hard to keep up the energy and interest with the pace of the game.
HCBailly just started a Chrono Cross LP, so that's out.
Huh, I guess I haven't played a lot of LP-able games.
As far as going in blind, I can think of two directions to run with it:
1. Play a horror game and get caught off-guard by all the scare chords and jump scenes. Let people laugh at my wimpiness.
2. Play a classic game from before I starting gaming that absolutely everyone else knows. Ocarina of Time, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana...it would be brutal. Call it "Piercewise Butchers the Classics."
Okay, partially kidding there. I guess I still don't know what would work best.
"Piercewise Butchers the Classics" sounds like a good Idea to me.
Hmm... do you have any interest in playing a patched version of Ocarina of Time? There are two patches I could offer, one is complete and the other... well it's not.

IWBTG? Watching people get pissed off at a game is kind of fun for others.

It was funny when Voldemort did it because he swears a lot.

I've been looking for a hack of OoT, did you make it LastingDawn?
I made the not so finished one, yes. Though a dear friend of mine named john_smith_account made a full hack, called Zelda's Birthday. It's not too difficult, and I designed the final dungeon in it, my patches were more... difficulty ramp ups. It was to make you play Zelda 64 in a completely different way. Though you'll need a few tools to start out with... do you come on IRC? We can discuss it there.
Zelda's birthday? I saw that, seems to be the only full hack in existence, I'll have to give it a go sometime.

How about a hacking/programming/otherwise game making project of your own, rather than playing other people's?
Hm... I'm not sure it would be as funny to see you play a harder LoZ:OoT before playing the original, depending on how much the mod shakes things up at least.
Quote"Piercewise Butchers the Classics" sounds like a good Idea to me.
Yeah, I'm thinking this is the way to go.

Dear sweet Jesus no. Remember how I never finished 1.3026? I at least want to have a chance at succeeding here.

I am slowly grinding away at my RPG Maker VX project, Shadow Nation. Updates are slow but informative, and you can catch them over at the Clave.

Agreed. Plus, the whole point is to play something a LOT of people know very well, adding to the hilarity. So just straight-up general releases for now.
I've gotten Ocarina of Time to emulate beautifully, but I'm having trouble capturing the video in good quality. Hopefully I can figure something out this week, at which point I will begin the first ever Let's Butcher: Ocarina of Time.
Stay tuned!
Ah, I had no idea you hadn't played the original, well then Best to play that first then, haha! Ocarina of Time has aged beautifully, in my opinion, a simple but profound battle system.
Ocarina of Time hum ?
Good idia actually.
By the way LD can u give me the hack for Ocarina of time? (The completed one)
I really want to try it
Ocarina of Time would be interesting. It is actually a game I haven't played either. My favorite Let's Play was Arch's Vagrant Story, because I was playing it for the first time at the same time he was.
