Title: Skeleton's!
Post by: Jumza on October 18, 2009, 05:44:57 pm
Skeleton was easily my favourite monster when i first played through the original game. so ive decided to change them a little. in some people's minds it may be bad and in other good but i dont know which change i should do first my bald skeleton or my sorcerer skeleton? here is a picture of my skele work. i also made some crummy portraits but ive never made a portrait like this before so how is it?

I believe someone did complete a bald skeleton, so I say do the sorcerer--which looks pretty decent, by the way.

The portraits both need work, you have the right idea on the skeleton with the blue hat, but he needs some shading to blend where the hat's shadow ends and where the face beings. You also need to clean up shading on the bald skeleton. Right now he's suffering from blobbiness.

You can find the bald skeletons here (http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3506). I believe there's a completed SPR file there too.

And sadly Skeletons are not my favorite monster in FFT. I really don't have a favorite, but I suppose I'm partial to the Cockatrice enemies, for whatever reason...

The trick is, the current skeleton already looks and attacks like a mage type skeleton. What I think would be much cooler would be a more generic skeleton (look at Vagrant Story for design ideas) that didn't have a cape or horns and had a bald head. Maybe the bald skull could look more skull like though and not a horse skull like the current one. Or just a plan different looking skull, I know some people tried using the skulls used for the dead animations of different monsters.

Cheetah's definitely on to something--adding a hat alone may not be the way to go. A complete overhaul of the skeleton may prove noteworthy.

i like the skeleton but not his skillset i would like to see it more like a knight with a sweord and maybe some black magic

Ok i took a crack at making it look more like a magician (with alternate pallettes to go with em) and if you notice the ones on the bottom right corner i added a ripped cloak to my edit which i think makes it look a little more....well better. what do you guys think?

Though the blue and yellow are a bit too bright, this is a very interesting concept. I like the idea of him having one arm tucked away--that's a look we don't see too much of. The back view needs work though. And so does the area where the cloak meets the legs. The Skeletons have those weird bended legs, so keep that in mind when you design your sprite.

Do you like the ripped clothing idea or should i stick to the normal one?

Yellow and Blue = good concept.

They remind me of Toma and their tribe from Suikoden V,
which were like Mexicans. I like it.

Ooh, ripped clothing is a very interesting idea...if you can pull it off. Make sure to blend the tears with the fabric.

try doing something like this with the skeleton sprite, it would be amazingly helpful to base any future skeleton-type sprite off of

Lolz it looks like it is sticking its butt out. and i if i did do something like that i would have to remake the bones to make it look better.

Hmm...those proportions seem a little strange--the head looks gigantic, when compared to the arms.

it is pretty much the skeleton sprite with no cape. shishi has a pallete that excludes the cape, i just connected the arms to the body
