I just recently started using the wonderful tools that have been produced here. FFT is by far my most favorite game I've ever played. And these, thusly (which may not be a word), are my sprite projects.
Chapter 4 Holy Knight Ramza

Erin

I think this sprite may have some issues.
I've also done some Shrine Knight recolors, but they're not impressive enough to post. But if anyone wants them I have: Vormav in green, Izlude in grey, and Kletian in Violet. I also have a bmp of ONLY Ramza's head, which makes it easier to place him on bodies, let me know if you want me to post that.
Ramza and Erin are nice, Izlude recolor isn't that bad either, I just sugest to lessen brightness of symbol on Ramza cape, it's way too bright.
If those are your first sprites then great job!
The last one looks good, didn't think female monk would look good on meliadoul.
Ramza's cape is too saturated
Use existing palettes.
Thanks guys.
I realize that using palettes that don't correspond with the in-game palletes makes it kind of "unreal" but still I like bright teal's, which the game seems to lack. I'm gonna wait till I see Ramza in-game before I desaturated the cape, but it does seem a bit bright.
While the game lacks teal, it's there, to some extent:

Though it's your call on whether or not they should be used...
Oh and, try saving/uploading as either PNGs or BMPs, for quality's sake.
mm i like erin in my opinion the teal of the others sprites is too bright but doesn't look bad
Btw, you forgot to delete the "stand-out" part of hair in Ramza portrait.
I'll have to fix that tomorrow, just about to fight Velius :p
post pictures in PNG for better quality
nice ramza, even if the teal is bright...
Thanks, I'll remember to post png's in the future.
1st and 2nd's teal color is too bright. Follow what mav suggests.
3rd one is good.
Does the face look pale, or what?
On the other hand, the portraits should have some tweaking with their hairs, eyes, face and smile for their own character.
Quotepost pictures in PNG for better quality
A common misconception is that JPG images ruin the image.
If you choose to not compress the jpg file, the image will still be have high quality.
The good thing is, jpgs has a smaller size than pngs. (GIMP does this)
But for an quicker method, just post them in PNG, as Sen said.
They are posted in .png now, I may try and make those fixes tomorrow, honestly though I'm fairly satisfied.
Is this better? ...
The colors are too saturated.
EDIT: not really fixed, just fixed the saturation.
about 3 colors had 90+ saturation value. You should avoid that.
By the way, for the Ramza sprite the gold armor matches the boots, face, and hair a little too closely for my personal tastes. It's coming off as well done, but boring.
Thanks for all the advice guys.
Looking good Mike. Yes, too saturated indeed.
Here's a concept for Ovelia as a knight. Female Monk's chest, Dycedarg's Skirt, and Temp Knight's arms... needs alot of work but I think it looks promising :p
Ovelia as a knight lol.
Continue.
Haha. That looks decent ^^
u need to make more obvious boob section and then she will be okay
Besides the fact that she acts as a tool throughout the story line, Ovelia is a very unique character in FFT. In fact it would be cool to have her have a job using sword skills revolving around Holy Sword skills and Healing sword skills. I think it would be an interesting plot twist for the story for her to become more of an antagonist...
I did think the boob section was a little lacking... it's only a rough :p
Ok here's what I have so far. I haven't reduced the palette yet, and there could be some holes in some of the frames. But if anyone wants to take a whack at minor adjustments that would be killer. Obviously the portrait hasn't been done either.
*Update I was able to reduce the colors.
Well that image has some issues with the black colors... but I am attempting again with this as my base... I haven't reduced the color count yet, but I'm working on it :p
The arms don't look right at all. I mean, there's no problem with them, they just don't match the sprite all that well...
Here's something a little less challenging, but I like.
That's not bad, better than the first due to the arms.
Problem is it's based on Dycedarg, and there's no real sign she's a woman as far as I can tell, she could just be a very androgynous male.
I agree with LD--though it may have to be subtle, you need to feminize her look. The sprite looks pretty decent though.
Yeah I gave her first few frames a boob job, but my computer crashed and I lost the image. I'll try and hack at these later.
QuoteProblem is it's based on Dycedarg, and there's no real sign she's a woman as far as I can tell, she could just be a very androgynous male.
..quoted for truth.
Finish a single frame with 16 colors (less are recommended) first.
Right now, the reduced colors will be tough to deal with.
Hmm.. you should really work on your color shades. Be consistent with the colors.
Don't mess up the lighting value. Just edit the Hue. HSL Rules!!
Please post the Ramza head. I want to create some interesting Ramza sprites. Please.

There ya go...
Post 'em as BMPs or PNGs, man.
I like that 2nd ovelia sprite
JPEGs are okay, as long as the quality is at 100%..
but in this case, you might want it to be in a convenient format, which is bmp.
sorry for the bump but.. can i use that headswap of dycedarg + ovelia for black pearl on my fft:lom? :D
When you find a thread that hasn't been posted in in over two years and the user whose work in it also hasn't been online in over two years, I'd say its safe for you to take over the piece as you like. Just for the love of Ajora stop necrobumping shit from the ends of time. -_-;;
