Ok, This is the version .1 of the dark Ramza sprite. Should I shade it a bit differently?
The freaking ponytail and cow lick always bothered me so I removed it lol.
Looks interesting.
At any rate I like the concept.
Quoteresized it in paint
resize it using this method:
Ctrl+W.
then follow the sequence, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, set for both..
ex, horizontal: 200%, vertical 200%.
Thanks, Mikemitchi.
Yeah, the cowlick and the ponytail always bothered me for some reason. I plan on changing his hair to brown or black. How does the black shirt look? Should I use different shades?

Is there anything you DON'T know?
I've been using MSPaint for spriting until I got GraphicsGale VERY recently. I daresay I've mastered that piece of crap of an image editor.
Helchilde: It looks good. I like the style choice. Very classy.
Consider looking into that GraphicsGale I mentioned. If only just to test it out. It's got everything a pixel artist could ever want... without any of the over-complexity of some other options...
Yep that Ramza ryt there is the son of this Balbanes (Bloodthirster0)

Nice Concept BTW
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
I'm going to have to try GraphicsGale out. Anything to make this and portraits easier. I don't do well with a lot of colors
.

I hear that...
It might actually make things more complicated at first, but it has palette control, which is important for making things that are meant to work with the actual game...
Your two darkest shades may be too dark, but otherwise this looks interesting.
Ok, I updated the sprite and portrait. I lessened the Darkest shades and removed the red from the portrait.
This is looking great ^^
Good start.
You are on the right basic track Helchilde.
Editing default sprites, which is simple and good.
I wanted to start on something easy before I get to the monster sprites.
I will start working on a Garr sprite using one of the demons after I finish Ramza.
That would be a huge leap. Monsters are complex.
But if you plan toedit minor details, then go!
I've been sprite editing for 2 years now, so I'm alright at it. I'm just trying to get used to the fft style.
No more ahoge =(
Can't wait for the finished product.
I'm already pretty much done. All I really have to do is edit the hair on the rest of the sheet. I'm mostly just doing this for fun and to actually have contributed to the website.
I probably will not finish it till the weekend, because I have a english paper due friday. I also would like some ideas for other changes I could make to the character. I am trying to base the character off of an idea that I had a while ago before I discovered this site.
I thought that it would be pretty cool if Alma was captured instead of Teta, and she of course died at Fort Zeikden(sp?). There by replacing Ramza with Delita as the main character.
Turn his hair black and his gloves/boots red and call him Goth Ramza. ^_^
I really should. It would fit with the personality outline that I made awhile back.
I'll work on it and post it in about an hour or so.
I was joking, but I wouldn't mind seeing it done anyway.
Keep a version of it as is too. ^_^
Actually it doesn't look half-bad. The red could use a little touch up, but over all it looks decent.
I could submit it for the Halloween contest .

Ok this is the goth Ramza edit that Vanya jokingly requested. I personally do not like how the red is shaded, but I'll let all of you be the judge's. I should be done with the portrait in about 2 hours. I'll post it then.
the red is a bit out there. try borrowing red from another sprite's palette
also, it looks like the shades of red are not in the right order,
I think Vincent's red should be good though.
I will when I finish the hair on the portrait. Thank Ajora I'm almost done with it.
How is this? To me it looks a little pinkish, but it definitely looks better.
Yes. Its better now ^^
A little pinkish still huh? Hmm...perhaps try redmage red? Or knight's cape red?
I wanted the red to be like dried blood. Ramza is going goth so he needs to go all the way. His face is slightly pasty and he dyed his hair black and got rid of the gay cowlick and ponytail!
And here is the portrait. I'm going to have to edit the eye's of the sprite to black so that they will match the portraits eyes. I also modded the scar to look like it zigzags.
I guess this red isn't good enough right? Hmm...
I'll try that one and see. I might mix and match till I get the color just right.
Could I also try the red on the submission that you just posted for the Halloween contest? It looks awesome.
Quote(http://i826.photobucket.com/albums/zz190/helchilde/gothramzaportraitbigv1.png)
The 'zigzags' were too visible. I suggest you lighten it.
It looks more of a TATTOO.
Borrow any red, as long as they're not supersaturated. lol.
This is with the red mage red palette. It looks even better but, still...not quite bloody enough.
If you could not guess I'm a perfectionist when it comes to these things. I'll use this version if I cant find a better palette.
I don't think the red is your problem. I think the hair and cloths using the exact same shades of black is just making the whole sprite a bit too flat.
Edited portrait. I'll get to changing the shades of black later today. Its 1 AM where I'm at.
I have 5 shades that I used for the hair and shirt. The shirt only has 4 of them. I'll try changing things after I get some sleep.
Quote from: "Helchilde"I'll try that one and see. I might mix and match till I get the color just right.

Erm...Actually that red is the red from Vincent Valentine. Haha. Thanks ^^
I like perfection too though. And for the portrait, the scar is looking better.
Thanks for making me feel stupid.
Sorry about that. ^^ You could take a look with Shishi for different palettes. Perhaps, there may be a suitable red.
Quote(http://i826.photobucket.com/albums/zz190/helchilde/gothramzaportraitbigv1-1.png)
Hmm..
For the sprite, try changing the background color to white, or test it in-game,
to see if the colors actually fit.
The colors fit pretty well. Cheetah is right about the black shirt and hair blending in with each other. I'll have edit that later.
I should be completely done with the original version by Friday, and this version by Saturday.
Afterwords, I'll work on a Chapter 2/3 and 4 version of them both.
I took the liberty of messing with the palette and came up with this:
yes that looks good there
I used a modified Elmdore palette with reds from one of the Squire's alternate palettes.
will definately fit in the game now, i think it looks pretty cool
I salute you, Ser Vanya! I'll get to work on the sprite sheet tonight after I get done with my homework.
Thanks! I look forward to seeing the whole sheet. ^_^
Work on the portrait's scar. Look at some of the custom sprites to get an idea: colors need to vary, shade needs to be placed properly (not outlined), and just know that a scar going straight down like that may not work out the way you want it to...
The sprite palette looks better--though I'm not the biggest fan of a very bright color on a very dark color, but whatever.
you know, i keep coming back and looking at it... i really like the way it looks even tho its two tone. are you using all 16 colors?
anyway, its amazing how it looks without those stupid ponytail/hair thingy
That is 16 colors.
1 - Black background
1 - Standard outline color
3 - Red shades
3 - Skintones
2 - Eye whites
3 - Clothing shades
3 - Hair shades
anyway, it looks good, i encourage its completion
I'm starting to get a headache. The scar on the portrait has been a living hell to edit. I have also been having trouble with that retarded pony-tail. I have to re-shade the whole back in order to make it look like he does not have a black pump growing out of his back.
Thats looking great Vanya ^^
The portrait is done unless ya'll have anymore crits about the scar. I am about 30% done with both the sprites as well.
I'll post the portrait to this post in about 30 minutes or so.
Scar looks better, but what happened to his EYESSSSS!?
the hair looks like it lost a color
lol, I just made the white part go down one pixel. I made the edit about 40 minutes ago and just caught it and the one pixel of unscared skin above his eye. I've already fixed it and I'm about to upload it.
The hair has looked like that since I first made it that color. I'll try to add more detail during my 2 hour break tomorrow.
Scar reminds me of Kratos (G0d of War) face tattoo. . . ur getting pretty good with the palette just chose different colors for portrait hair than that of small sprites. . .
*G0d becomes St. Ajora when typed . . . just found out
QuoteThe hair has looked like that since I first made it that color.
It lost one to two shades from the original.
