I really love Breath of Fire IV's sprite styles, along with Xenogears alot too. But FFT whens for the best quality in the smallest size.

Voldemort, thats not Tales of Phantasia, It's Tales of the world (2?), the PSP fan service game.
This is Tales of Phantasia (http://gbamedia.gamespy.com/gba/image/article/693/693757/tales-of-phantasia-20060306113638664.jpg)

Tales of Phantasia's chibiness isn't nearly as appealing as FFT's, IMO.

Yea. Tales of Eternia is better. Tales of Phantasia is like FF1 to 3; small, 2D, funny looking sprites and graphics.

That's because FFT uses 2d sprites for 3d bgs.

Eh, I'd say the PSP FF1 remake's sprites come close or match the quality of the sprites of FFT. Obviously the styles are different enough that one will inevitably surpass the other on certain backgrounds, but in their respective environments, both are quite nice.

I've never been partial to the 3D graphics of today, but out of virtually every game I've ever played I think FFT does have the nicest style. The sprites are cute without losing their edge (I mean, when sprites like Velius and a Chocobo can both look good in the same environment, that really says something about the game's sprites). And I've always found the character design (i.e. the full art and the portraits) particularly neat. Stylistically, I don't see anything like that anymore.
Though this isn't to say some sprites don't look weird...The female Ninja, for instance, needs some help. But that's what we're here for, I suppose.
