Title: Reflect
Post by: Lydyn on May 06, 2008, 06:10:33 pm
There are two Reflects, actually ... one is the spell and there's another one in the Reactions section of the patcher. Does anyone know what or if it does anything? I'm still testing right now, but .. it's failed to launch. I suppose it could be a result of 55 Brave... anyways, I had assumed it would just add reflect to your character.

I'm going to switch MP Switch for Reflect if it actually works.

Doesn't seem to be working. That's a real shame ... would've been a kind of a cool reaction ability. *Sigh*

What does it say when you hit select on it in the formation screen?

Maybe its triggered by magic and not attack/dmg/whatever else can trigger reactions.

Add: reflect.[/list]

That's exactly what it says. >.<

Try casting a spell on the person who has it.  Maybe its triggered by magic like Counter Magic.  That probably won't work but its worth a shot.

That doesn't seem to be working either. I cast some 6 spells on him and nothing happened.

Thats strange.  Maybe they were going to add it but decided not to and left it there.

Probably, which is sad ... instead, I just took out MP Switch all together. It's now an enemy-only reaction! Ha, now no cheap-skating it with Move-MP Up. :P

Maybe it adds reflect when near death?

Maybe? ... I don't know. Should I just leave it in there just in case it does work? It's only 200 JP after all.

Seriously, we need some beta testers. I'll try it out if you like.

Yeah we do. Well, like I said somewhere else, I can be a beta tester once v0.14 of Heavenly Chaos is out. I'm mostly trying to see if I can upload the entire ISO somewhere so new people don't have to hassle with installing the sprites, UNIT.BIN, ENTD files, SCUS_941.21, and BATTLE.BIN files.

Oh, and I'd be very thankful to you if you did test it out. ^^ I have so many other things to test out still. >.<

Battle Mechanics Guide says the ability definitely doesn't work. I love aerostar, it's like he wrote a faq just for us hackers.

Guess it wouldn't hurt to let Vanya try though. For now, I just took MP Switch out and left it blank. I'm content taking out that trick for temptation and leaving it only for enemies (there's some that use that trick, lol).

With Brave modifing out the window, I can't think of many other cheap tricks you can use that's overpowered. The best is putting Blade Grasp on Ramza, since he has 70+ Brave.

If it actually does activate when attacked by magic, that'd be a good thing to implement with the text editor. Maybe as a skill learned by Time Mages with a fairly high JP cost?

Why a high JP cost? It's only reflect. I could see 400-500 being justifiable, but having reflect also means no cure magic or support magic (which is why I hate reflect). Though, I suppose 400-500 is fairly high for a reaction ability... anyways, if (I'm not counting on it) it works, I'm putting it on my Time Mage (since they learn reflect anyways).

Sorry, that was a typo; I did mean Time Mage, and 450 ~ 500 JP is high, in my opinion. Regenerator (which also adds a status upon attack, albeit a more useful one) is 400 JP, so I'd be going off of that, and say about 380. I just meant it shouldn't be readily available in the start of the game.

Yeah, I'd go with 300-350 myself. ^^

Nope, I couldn't get it to activate. Oh, well.

Thanks for trying though. ^^

i was wondering... would it be possible to make reflect affect the original caster after it's reflected.  i haven't used it much, but i remember it's more like a 'deflect'.  like if ur 2 panels away in the x and 1 in the y, it should go back 2x and 1y, not forward 2x, 1y from the target.  i can see both cases useful, like u could set up your own team and get ur spell to reach farther, but it should reflect it back at it's caster.

btw, my first post here... so, hi!  :P

Hey that would be fun, but it would require some asm hacking, I guess.

i was thinking... Counter Magic reacts pretty close to Reflect in the way i'm used to.  Only issue with it, is it allows the hit, then hits the caster instead of preventing it.  if that could be changed to either 'miss' or skip hitting the target, this skill could work like Auto-Reflect.  would that take much asm hacking?

The hacking itself is easy, the hassle is finding the corresponding code to hack.

What  I'd like to see is for Absorb Used MP to cancel incoming spells entirely, or at least reduce their damage significantly, making more like Celes's Runic skill from FFVI.

mmm, me likey the Runic idea.   my favourite Final Fantasy (and 1 of my fav characters).  I think i'd like it if u could utilize it much like the Defend command.
