I've been looking at FFTPatcher and I've noticed that in all lists (abilities, items, item abilities, monsters, etc.) there are some blank spaces.
I originally thought that they were to seperate different sub-categories, but on inspection they have effects and so forth, despite having no name.
Is it safe to touch these, or are they crucial to the game (i.e. would tampering cause glitches?), as if they aren't and are just unused / unfinished moves that aren't used, they could be put to use for creating abilities etc. without replacing others.
For the most part they're safe to edit. You can change all the abilities, jobs, ect except the ones at the top on the lists (<nothing> and 00), and iirc, the ability above potion.
Of note they won't have names or descriptions, and for blank abilities you have to change their graphic or it'll crash the game.
Thanks, that should save a few mixups. However, even with TacText, there's no way to give them names or descriptions?
Oh, you can with that.
Perfect! I want to make a move with the Night Sword animation (Gaffgarrion's health steal) without messing up Night Sword itself. The other version will not require a sword, be called 'Eye of Horus' and be for the 'Primarch' job. It's for a little project I'm still planning out.
