Title: Monster Skill
Post by: kenj_083 on April 29, 2008, 11:20:32 pm
If I give all monsters an innate monster skill, will that give them four moves?

I would imagine this would simply gives all monsters that are near to any other monster their Monster Skill abilities.  One way to test this would be to create a single monster with monster skill and put it in the party, and see if he grants himself his Monster Skill ability...

I think they tried doing this in one of the versions of the hack on the main Hacktics page. But they ended up changing it back because it make the game too hard on the AI acted wierd or something.

it was showen in FFT1.1 that Monster Skill dosent target self and dose cause the enemy AI to function weirdly.  Mabey some fine tuning may fix it but I dont beleven ther has been any tries as of yet.

Just like giving Monsters normal attack makes the AI go all weird on you ... don't think it's anything you can do at the moment. I just took out Monster Skill myself and added their forth over an empty slot or a lesser skill myself ... suppose you could always go through the Monster jobs and bump their move by 1.

Didn't feel like starting a new topic, but BATTLE.BIN also seems to control the Monster Skills part of FFT Patcher. I was trying to change Chocobos to have Nothing instead of Attack (since they wouldn't attack or heal themselves), but it wouldn't work until I patched the BATTLE.BIN file.

so what if you take one of those monster attacks and use it for all monsters that you've removed their primary attack skill from? ... would they still act weird?

I'm pretty sure I tried this before, and the AI was unchanged.

Unchanged? As in it continued working normally or wonky?

Well, I have no clue why my Chocobo wouldn't attack with normal attack ... but I changed mine to the traditional, cowardly type that's really annoying (heals 999 by level 35, hehe). I gave all the other monsters either Scratch Up or Knife Hand and they seem to be attacking normally once again.

Figured out the bug with my cure though. I gave Chocobo's Cancel to Holy and their Choco Cure was Holy elemental, so the AI wouldn't think to cure itself despite it actually healing HP. Gave them (and all monsters who had cancel to dark/holy) absorb instead and ta-da! He'll cure himself now. ^^

Wicked! I should have thought of that.
