Title: Anyone else getting hitched?
Post by: Vanya on June 19, 2009, 12:58:49 am
My wedding is coming up in October.
I'm a bit nervous and a little stressed.
Gotta get the invitations out soon. =P
At least I got my honey moon paid for already. ^_^

Anyone else care to share?

(Spammers can GTFO!)

And how was that for you?

Terrifying. I had to take a valium to keep my nerve. After that everything went ok.

I vaguely remember seeing someone's wedding pics while browsing through some old threads.

That would be Bastard Poetry's wedding.

Best of luck to you, Vanya; wedding planning is a fucking stressful, nightmarish bitch of a task.

Hussy and I keep saying that if we had the opportunity to do it all over again, we'd elope and use all that money we spent on the wedding and put it towards having a 6-month honeymoon in Barcelona instead.

But don't let that worry you too much. You'll do fine, and it'll all be worth it by the end.

Thanks, BP.
Yeah, we're only going to Epcot for the Food & Wine Festival for our honey moon, but were putting a good portion of our funds towards it instead of going nuts on the wedding itself. Plus since we've been living together for 3 years we don't really need any of the traditional wedding gifts so we're giving ppl the option to just drop some cash in our wedding account.

Since I just got married I can honestly say that all the planning and stress that went along with it was well worth it. It was definitely the happiest day of my life. I thought I wouldn't do this but I'm feeling a bit sappy, so if people want to watch a whole bunch of videos of my wedding here is the link:

http://www.youtube.com/terylanne (http://www.youtube.com/terylanne)

So my recommendation is to just stick with it and the planning makes all the difference for the day going perfectly. There were lots of moments where I was going "What WTF am I doing", "This is so much money how can it be worth it", and "OMG if I have to answer another question about wedding planning I'm going to die". But just stick with it and focus on working hard and keeping your cool.

I'm getting married in May, and taking the same approach. A lot of our "wish list" items are things we don't want until we can buy a house together, so for now we are employing the families' help with little things we would have to pay for otherwise (DJ, favors, table decorations, video, etc). We might actually be able to pull it off.

In case anyone cares, we are getting married here:

So I proposed to my GF on Sunday (more like Saturday night but it was 12:33AM). D-day is Sept 19. I know, it seems a bit rushed but that's okay.

Wedding, with a dry reception. Some of her side of the family will probably be drunk anyway because it's hereditary.

Good luck with the planning!
My wedding will be very short, with a very long, very wet reception & after party. Then I'm going to Food & Wine festival for my honeymoon. ^_^

Congrats Vanya, welcome to the club. Enjoy the decrease in forum presence and the continued extension of project completion that holy matrimony holds for the rest of us. While what I just said is true, it doesn't mean I regret it :).

A wii? Nice! I thought all wedding gifts were supposed to suck. I guess the people who gave that to you didn't get the memo.

depends on how much you like toast

^ I would never give up my toaster for a Wii. A blender however would be fare game.

I would rather have some pans or other kitchen stuff than a wii, but I like to cook, I don't know if I'd rather have a toaster or a blender than a wii though

People give the Wii less credit than it deserves. The Wii CAN run graphics at an XBOX 360 or PS3 non-HD level, but most game developers do not put their games at that level when they port/design them on the Wii... BUT WHY NINTENDO?!?!?!? WHY DIDN'T YOU GET THE RIGHTS TO FALLOUT 3?!?!?! THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE BEST GAME EVER!

Oh, and congratulations on the happy wedding  :)

Post by: Samuraiblackbelt on November 04, 2009, 10:58:00 pm
the graphics have nothing to do with the quality of the consol, the PS3 and Xbox360 have better games

and uh, yeah, congrats

All the wii's problems would've been averted if they bundled a gamecube controller along with the console.

But nooo, nintendo had to shove the controller down third party (and first party) developer's throats. They skipped checkmating sony and microsoft in favor of playing checkers.

Thanks! ^_^

Now, while a vanilla Wii is quite... plain... that does not mean that mine is vanilla.
Throw in a little homebrew channel, some download content off the web, added DVD playback features, and tons of fan made channels and you have a very different system. Also, there really aren't many games on 360 & PS3 that I care for. I'm more interested in old school games and their newest sequels/remakes. (I also have a "modified" PSP for this purpose.) ^_^
