Hello I'm new and new to this whole patching stuff but i've been messing around with shishi, fftpatcher, and some other stuff and i think i've gotten a handle on most of it, except my question of course, which is.....
I was on fftpatcher and was checking out the item menu and realized that the rare items were on that very list, and there was this little drop down menu that said "shop availability" so my idea was to make these one of kind, hard to get, rare items available in the shop to buy, at a high price of course. So i changed the availability of almost all the rare everything's to "chapter 4-kill zalbag" basically the last availability i could choose. So i patch it and everything and i'm at the point where im going to go to murond to kill zalbag (not a coincidence, i TOTALLY planned it that way) so i go off and kick is arse and so i hit up the nearest shop to see the new items, and they're not there. So then i go back to fftpatcher and uncheck the rare option that they all had checked to see if that worked....nope that didn't work either.
So story told, on to the question: Am i missing something here? is there more complicated stuff i need to do? what? Cause i have no idea, as far as the fftpatcher part is concerned, what im doing wrong
Thank you for your answers in advance and its great to finally post something on here after checking this forum out for a few weeks getting all the answers i had before.
Are you testing off a save state or a save game?
If you're using save states that usually screws things up.
Other than that I don't really know.
off of a save game, would save state be better? because i did a save state once, made a change to my patch, loaded the save state and the changes i made to my patch weren't there, so i've always just assumed that save game is the way to go when i've made changes to my patch.
If you use save states that usually screws things up.
Maybe try a save from earlier on in the game.
If that doesn't work then there's definitely another factor involved.
Oddly enough, Saves are very strange... They record your shop settings as you have them, also the current FFT Patcher available to the public doesn't have the shop availability, though the new one does.

Huh? Mine does and it's available at Melonhead's site. Is there one I'm missing?
Nope, hehe... nevermind.
well i figured out a way to throw them in...by replacing the poaching items, so i can get them at the fur shop but other than that i guess i have to start allllll over because i don't have another save...i know i know i should've had another save but i've been tweeking with my patch for so long i've been thinking about playing the game over.
Thanks though for your help. I wanted to post this just to make sure i wasn't missing anything.
I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that items that originally never appeared in shops wouldn't appear in shops without some hex editing.
At least that's how it used to be. Has that been changed with the updates to the patcher?
Not that I am aware of.
You don't have a patcher with the "Item Shop Availability" tab?
Quote from: "LastingDawn"You don't have a patcher with the "Item Shop Availability" tab?
It's more than that.
You can alter when already-flagged-for-shop items can pop up, but trying to make Defender (e.g.) available after Elmdor isn't possible without going deeper into the program.
Edit: I -think- the longbow after windslash is already flagged for shop, despite not actually being in shop. All the rest can only be gained through poaching/battle trophies/stealing/move find item.
Oh no, I meant a "tab" which shows which cities carry which items. My version has that new implementation.
That item shop tab has been there for a long time but what I was saying is exactly what philsov reiterated. Only items that currently appear in shops can be changed to appear in other shops, but all other items need hex editing to appear in shops regularly.
When you guys mentioned that it could be changed I was wondering if the new patcher actually allowed that without the extra work.
Hmm, strange in my patcher it appears, with regards to where the city is, by chance does it look like this?

my patcher doesn't have that checklist there, just the drop-down menu with shop availability. I'm starting to wonder if you anything else in your patcher that I don't currently have now.
Also when you make a change to an item, do previously "rare" and unattainable items in shops appear in shops now with your version of the patcher?
Certainly, the Blood Sword, looks like at one point that it was considered for a shop but it has no shop check availability. Though if I press anyone of those check marks, it will appear there without fail.
I'm jealous now... I want your version of the patcher then.
I have .352 version which should be the latest version unless you have some special version.
Oh, wait. Yeah I have a test version, I'll send it to you through PM.
thanks i'm gonna start playing around with it now
LD could you send me that version too? that would be totally darn freaking awesome if you could.
Hmm...LD...what's your patcher version?
That drop down part seems different...
You seem to have the newest one Jimmy.
Newest?
But it looks bit different for LD's patcher and I thought LD's patcher is the newest
newest released*
LD seems to have a test version of a newer build.
Just to let everyone know LD gave me his fftpatcher version and i tried to get the rare items to show up in the shop with this new version, since you can select where they show up and even modify the inventory of each shop, and still nothing, so im thinking that it's because i need to start a whole new game for them to actually show up since LD said something about the saves and shop states or something another...anyways, yeah new patcher doesn't work...i think it's because i need to start a whole new game...the end
EDIT: um yeah i also forgot to say that another reason why it could not be working is because of what phil and kourama said earlier, i have to dig deeper into the program...which im not willing to do or even know where to begin on how to do it, with that said, if anyone would care to explain it to me, i'd be glad to try to do this, if no one knows how to do this then well whatever.
Oh....LD's patcher is a test version?
That's exactly the reason, you just need to start a new game. I thought I had said that earlier in the thread...
It seems Shop Availability is located in the actual Memory or else like everything else it would appear as is intended. But I can confirm that the memory of shop availability is saved in a save file.
