this is what I have so far

I tried to shade it with two lighter colors in the pallette and I got this..

it's kinda looks like dreads, but that not what I'm going for, I more want long curly hair, any tips?
Either shrink it to regular size and work off that, or smooth out the entire portrait to go with the hair, like Zodiac's portrait.
I'm not sure I get what what you mean shrinking it to a regular size?, but I'm not much of spriter, I mostly just like making cool avatars, and my reccorces for spriting consist of Paint and an imagination
I think I found a happy median with the three colors I have available in the 16 coler pallette

I think akwikone isn't planning to import it in-game.
Either way, shrinking it to the regular size will stop possible style clashes. Currrently the base is made in one resolution, and your edits are in another, higher one.
Anyway, for hair, try to give some form to it. Trying to make random strands never looks good. That perspective would be a difficult one, though, so.
thanks for the tip, helped alot, last issue, the mustash, without a nose it's very hard to position

wow hair looks TONS better. is this a pirate?
Thanks, but no, it's s'posed to be a class called Fell thief, kinda like the mighty sword abilities, but instead of breaking the equips it steals them, asm would be required for that though, anyway it was mostly just meant to be an avatar, and you're right it does look a pirate.
EDIT: stash mark 2

ASM, to the contrary is not needed for that. Breaks can be turned into steals without any real problem, I use that trick in Mercenaries.
and still have them do damage?
Damage...? No, good point.
oh well, no big deal I didn't realy have a patch to put the class in anyway, it was more just a concept I liked.

new one, any thoughts?, tips?, constructive criticism?, have at it
This is looking good.
Pointy ear? Elf? ^^
But I think her hair's lines is abit weird. Needs some shadings instead of just yellow and dark yellow lines.
Maybe kinda like your pirate's hair ^^
Well, I can't say too much as I myself am suck at portrait and shading. You can look at Llednar's topic and give some critiques ^^
Wait for Smash's critiques and tips. He is the master here ^^

Oh no, it's Orlando Bloom!
Hmm...Add a mustache and maybe it will look more like Orlando Bloom.
Haha

Take this suggestion into consideration, since figuring out hair seems to be one of the bigger challenges...
you should take a look at long hair protraits to ahve a better idea on how to shade the hair because currently it looks pretty bad with only two colors and too linear as well.
Awesome!
linear is a great way to describe what's wrong with your hair shading
Righto dwib. And akwikone, take a quick look at the male archer's hair. The shade and coloring is used to convey images of light and depth, while the style you used is probably supposed to convey hairstyle. Alternatively, look at some of the girls' hair, like the female summoner's or something--it's layered and multi-colored.
