He's for my Final Fantasy Tactics: EX(tended) patch.
I'm making some subtle modifications to his structure and some not-so-subtle modifications to his palette. I just wanted to give him the feel of being different from Beowulf and make the palette look less forced. Comments?
Edit: Hmmm... It occurs to me that some might dislike the fact that I removed the highlights from his hair.
My first response to myself was; "too bad, bitch! his skin tone doesn't match his hair gradient enough."
Now, after thinking about it for another 2 seconds, I think I could put the highlights back if I make him look more pale. It would fit the character too since he's supposed to be dying of some degenerative disease. Sound like a plan?
Bright blue shirt's kinda jarring, but otherwise looks good.
Yeah the blue is way to over powering. I like your idea of adding the highlights back too.
im assuming the blue is still the default, but whoever made the luso and aliste and dark knight were a little bit off
1- Sicklier complexion.
2- Less saturated blues.
3- Restored highlights.
Looks good to me.
Way way better. I would still prefer a slightly lighter blue, but that is just a matter of opinion.
Thanks. I'm trying to keep it close to the original palette.
He's got every color of the dirt spectrum.
(in other words, I think the palette's too brown overall)
Here's the new portrait for Aliste.
I gave him a new scarfy-thing using one of the mourner portraits & palette updated based on Zalbaag 2 (undead).
I included the original for comparison.
Note the deathly ill complexion.
If you're going for an ill/pale complexion, you need to up the contrast between his face and cloths/hair. Currently it looks (to me) like it was turned black and white and given a brown hue.
Yeah he definitely needs more color to his face, he is too pale. I would recommend shrinking the scarf just a bit to show of more blue and using the original skin towns.
If I use the original skin tones he won't look like he's dying, though.
I want him to look like he's about to keel over and die at any moment.
What I did was use the colors from the Possessed Zalbaag.
There is a difference between dying and dead though haha. I would recommend finding a medium between the two.
How about trying colors in between the two versions? Aliste is dying, not undead. All you need to do is make him a little more pale than the original.
Edit: Dang, beat to it. Hivemind?
Looks like he was holding a stone gun.
Consider the addition of other ill-looking characteristics.
Eliminating the blue from the portrait to allow more details, or more saturated colors for the scarf and hair.
How's this?
Perfect.
Quote from: "Cheetah"Perfect.
Agreed.
Though, I see a net of extreme pillowshading/blending on the chin line and the lower left of the scarf, as well as the neck color clashing with the black.
These are just small details, they will probably pass unnoticed.
Smashed ruined a perfect portrait for me
now that he has pointed that black neck line out to me, its very distracting...
soften it up a bit...but until that factor, it was perfect.
Should've spoiler tagged it.
yeap
cause you spoiled teh portraits awesomness
good job smash
Yeah... Smash, while constructive, that just ruined it >.>
Smash: I noticed that, too. I'm already doing something about it.
Quote from: "Seraphim Enchantress"Yeah... Smash, while constructive, that just ruined it >.>
The point is, it will get better now.
Speaking of getting better.
OH EM GEEEEE! I could kiss such a cute face! :3
He is a pretty-boy, no?
Here:
I fixed up his ear a bit and darkened the back edge of the scarfy-thing.
Quality is perfect, now all it needs is a couple of ill-looking details.
I think you could use a little bit of darker hair color under neath his chin still, just not the black.
Like this?
What should I do to make him look sick?
If you can pull it off bags underneath the eyes would be good.
How's this? Not so pretty any more. P
That sure does it for the pallid (sickly) look.
Might be just a little overkill. Beowulf didn't notice how sick he was, right? Feel free to ignore me, but I like the idea of a little more subtlety to his symptoms. Need a good middle ground, in my opinion.
He did know he was sick actually. He wanted to die fighting Beowulf, so that's why he agreed to kidnap Reis for Bremondt.
Regardless of that, I agree that he looks a little over the top. I'll see what I can come up with tomorrow.
Maybe keep the sunken cheeks and remove the bags. Might make him look less sick and more malnourished.
That's not a bad idea.
Looks good but what of Zalbag's gaunt cheeks? Would that help the look any?
I was referencing Zalbaag and several others for this. So, yeah.
For my beat-up prison Ramza portrait, I just cut/pasted the gauntness lines directly off of the Zombag portrait, then converted them to Ramza's palette.
Also consider using Zalbaag's eyes, as they seem more sickly and dark even on his normal portrait.
How's this?
Good amount of gaunt.
I think I'm happy with this.
And for those who like the pretty-boy portrait, I will release both a sick and healthy version of him when I finish.
^_^
Nice. I like how it turned out.
Hmm, how does he look with just the gaunt cheeks without the sulken eyes?
EDIT: Nevermind, you did just that, hehe. didn't notice there was a third page.
I'm not too sure......I think he is still a pretty boy like this.
Either way good job, he now looks like a sick person who is trying to hide the fact.
He looks cuuuuute! <3
If you take away all the sickliness, then you basically get Beowulf. xD
Indeed. That's why I changed the scarfy-thing.
Well. If everyone is satisfied with the portrait, I'll go back to the actual sprite again.
^_^
