Title: Palette Idea!!!
Post by: Oblivion on April 18, 2009, 02:48:05 am
I just got an idea!!!

what if we used our own custom made sprites and incorporated it into one of the unsued palette's of the generic characters and special characters? then in patcher we set the pallete to whatever number it is on the sprite and boom! custom sprite! only prob is i have no idea if this'll work...

No... i don't think so.

Palettes are different colors of the original sprite art, thus a whole new picture for a palette wouldn't work.

Let me get this right, you say to insert custom sprites on the unused palletes of already existant characters...?

...

Im confused.

verdeni said it wouldnt work. but what i'm saying is that the sprites have unused palletes in shishi. so instead of it being unsused, replace them with a custom pallete you made.  but like v said i wont work.

It's possible to use these. You can change palettes with event instructions... though I'm unaware of those being able to change to any palettes other than 0-3. May require an asm hack to get them to use anything different.

Not sure why you'd need or want more than 4 palettes anyway.

If you mean the ones that show up as black on Shishi, that can be done, and it works.

However, if the character were to be turned into a frog or chicken, or any other motive that changed sprites, it'd look screwed up.
I haven't checked though, you need to confirm it.

hmmm... It seems i'm mistaken. I thought you meant whole new pictures on a different palette.

Custom palettes on already existing characters to make new nongenerics is more than possible, I've done it with ENTD.

my bad guys... my words are messed up...

what i meant to say:

the sprites that show up black in shishi can be edited
(http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq268/xehrgeizx/1.jpg)

what i was suggesting is that you replace the black sprites with a sprite of your choice. example put agrias's guest sprite#2 as tifa or someone else. so her sprite #1 is agrias but her sprite #2 is tifa... but it doesnt work...

btw how do you edit palletes 2-8 anyways?

No.

The other palletes are precisely just that, same sprite, but different colors.
What you want is impossible.

You can, however change Agrias colors to those of your choice.

it'd be a lot easier to put custom sprites into the game if it was possible...
oh well.

on another note... i'm having trouble with my llednar sprite. when i tried to put it in shishi for a test run, it wouldnt load. but i figured out that shishi only loads BMP sprite with 256 color as the format. now that i'm usng that, the colors on llednar's clothes lost their color (it faded like how clothes do in the dryer). how do i fix this (btw im using paint)

DO NOT use paint. Preferably GIMP or GraphicsGale

Wtf man.

Paint pwns.
Im using paint right now for my bangaa sprite and generic assasin sprite.

You must be doing something wrong.. Probably clicked save as BMP?

Go to GIMP, and fix the palletes in the colormap, they should appear as a multicolored mess; once you do that, open paint and paste the spritesheet again in the file. It should be fixed.

Yeah, I meant for palettes and BMP, not the actual editing. I use paint sometimes, but I don't save with paint.

GraphicsGale works really well too, though.
