Title: Idea for a PC remake of Asteroids

I was thinking of making a series of PC clones of classic arcade games to market on my website for cheap.

The first one I've been thinking about is a clone of Asteroids.

I was thinking about how to recreate the basic game play of the original game and improving it.

Here's a list of my ideas so far:

1) Redesign the basic asteroids to take mass, speed, and kinetic energy into consideration. I want them to be more 'real' in the way they collide and impact each other. I also want the bigger ones to fly apart based on where the player blasts them and how intense the blast is.

2) New types of asteroids. I thought of one very diabolical one this morning.  A 'space junk' asteroid made up of a bunch of extra small objects; smaller than a small asteroid fragment. The catch with these little bastards is that they tend to blast apart real easy, but they also tend to clump together. They start as a big clump of debris moving in the same direction. One blast from your cannon will destroy 2 or 3 bits. However, they will immediately fly apart in all directions making them difficult to hit because of heir size. Then as they fly around they'll be programmed to attract towards each other and slowly clump together again.

3) I want the game to have a power up system that goes with the theme of space mining. whenever the player blasts an asteroid it will have a chance to yield some useful materials that can be used to build stuff between stage. By collecting the right amount and combination of materials the player will be able to build new weapons, upgrades, extra ships, and new types of ships.

4) Improved controls. The basic controls will be the same as Asteroids. I'd like to also implement both the warp and shield features as upgrades for specific ships. In addition, I'd like to include a retro-booster feature so that the player can slow down without having to turn around first.

Design them for iPhone, and if they become popular enough, you will be seeing big bucks instead of cheap.

@Philsov: This is for future considertion. I'm already working on another game for profit that is near completion.
