Title: Question about Sprite types
Post by: Akai on March 30, 2009, 12:06:13 am
The difference between Type 1 and Type 2 is that Type 2 is shorter, but they both have the same arm position? Am I right in that?

Also, can you use "Short" types in battle? If so, how does one go about positioning the arms? Also, how many short types may I create? Is there a way to reassign the types of the sprites to allow more of one type?

Thanks in advance. =^_^=;

The difference between type1 and type2 is, in essence, the arm positions.
Ex: A type2 sprite would swing a sword over their head in an awkward manner. The sprite sheets are drawn so it looks ok like that. A type1 would swing it differently, and as such the arms on their sheet would be in a different alignment.

Can't comment on short as I've never used it.

Yes you can reassign the animation type that a job's sprite uses.
EDIT: Here. (http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1527)
Honestly that topic should be stickied in the spriting forum.

Wow, thanks for the link! I might have to use that.

Any one an expert on short types? I might have to use them for my moogles.

Short types can only be used for events, you can't use them for battle.

Short types? Neither of the sprite types are shorter than the others, they just have the arms positioned in different places. Type 1 being more of the norm (think squire or Ramza) and Type 2 being less common. Both Type 1 and 2 can be used in battle, so I have no idea what Verdeni is talking about. There is quite a bit of wiggle room around exactly where you place the arm within it's designated space which affects at what height the arms are at. I would recommend looking at Zozma's sheet completion of the 10 year old boy and girl to get an idea of how to get a shorter sprite working correctly.

Cheetah, I believe Akai is talking about where the civillian sprites are placed on Shishi, which is called, "Short"

That's a good idea though, you COULD use 10yr old boy/girl for a base for the arm placement of your moogles.

I believe those are called "Short" because the sprite sheet itself is short, as in not at full height. I think Akai was asking about short types because he is trying to make short characters, obviously lots of misunderstandings here.

Hmmm... Maybe you're right... and I already knew they were called "Short" becuase of their spritesheet length. I wasn't sure if Akai knew that is all.

I plan on making Moogle characters. When looking at "Short" types in comparison to Type 1 and 2, "short" is shorter than the other two and the arm placement is also lower. If you can use "short" types in battle, I'd like to know how so I can use moogles in battle and what not.

Cheetah, where can I get Zozma's sheet completion? It might help me out, but if "shirt" types can't be used in battles, then it wouldn't matter anyways. -_-

"short" type is still type 1 or 2, Teta's sprite which is "short" in the sense that i think you're referring to is still a type 2 as well and i think most of the "civilian" sprites are also type2 even tho you would never be able to tell because the arms are attached.

but that doesn't even matter anymore because we have the ability to change from one type to another with a hex editor.

You could move a sprite's arm sockets lower if you extend their arms, or don't mind a few pixels of empty space between their hands and their weapons in-game.

a "short" sprite can be used in battle IF the unit is limited only to magical skills and is unable to perform any kind of physical attack.
