This is coolest thing i have ever seen for the video game market. A must watch, even for a few minutes.
mixed feelings...
I am not sure about the claims for zero lag on the video streaming part of the service
EDIT: he mentions the required connections you'd need to stream the games you are playing
internet connections are not 100% and are not always up , and can be unreliable
I wouldn't want to have to be connected to the internet to play my games
if it can do all they are promising, then............................... I'm going to cum!!!!
That is the gamer's dream!!! What we all were always thinking!! "why don't they fucking make a console which plays every game?" well.. here it is finally..
I hope this comes to South America though XD and also that many Game developers add to this (I'm talking to you SqareEnix!!). Great find dude!! ^^
It's going to be terrible because you'll never have a resolution great 1280*1024 on a 5mbit connection.
Also, the games will be completely unmoddable due to the fact they'll be streamed and nothing will be stored locally
you might as well rename it "Phantom Mark 2" because really, it's the same fucking thing.
Good ol Tithin seeing the glass as half empty, and in those cases I agree we will be able to play but after that what then.
Modding is one of the greatest parts of being a gamer.

although I agree with this, I am afraid a great deal of devs will be happy to get rid of modding
I don't think they really care. Well... no more than any other artist who's work gets modified and another person's name pasted over it.
If I developed a game I would be happy if people modded it to make make it appeal more to them.

that's you, yes, but look at alot of major gaming companies
there is some dev (see: not blizzard) companies with owners who only put up with modding because they legally cannot do anything about it
I am sure there are many many individuals who do not care that "if I developed a game I would be happy people mod it!", however this has nothing to do with the attitudes that the large game making companies (stockholders and all) acquire
EDIT: here's what some guy said as a comment about one of the OnLive articles
QuoteFurthermore, ISPs lie about speeds and oversubscribe everyone so most people won't have the bandwidth for HD. Everything will look blurry and have artifacts. And if you thought ISPs were complaining about youtube, wait until they start bellyaching about this service. They'll start throttling it straight away, and I wouldn't even be surprised if some blocked it outright and charged an extra fee to unblock it.

Arch, I know what you mean, but it just seems stupid to be mad about someone modding something you made.
It's been happening for years even before video games and electronics.
Modding is how we advance, and I would bet most of their programmers started as modders or dabbled in it at least once.
Plus if your product is selling then why the FUCK should you care what the people are doing with it, as long as they are not making a profit from it, or pirating it for that matter.

I am not arguing that it is not stupid
I am just telling you that they would prefer a service that made modding impossible regardless of any valid reasons that prove it is stupid
QuoteIt's been happening for years even before video games and electronics.
yes, and big time game devs would still welcome the change regardless of this

I get where you are coming from Arch I am just blowing off steam.
Also big time game devs can go suck a fat one because without reasons for why modding is a bad thing they are just proving that they speak before they think. Which they have always proven. Except back when all game devs did was make a game then go smoke some pot. Those where the good ol days.
Unfortunately without the possibility of great earnings from the release of a game, companies do not deliver more games
no one wants to spend the year + time it takes to develop a game to get nothing in return
QuoteExcept back when all game devs did was make a game then go smoke some pot.
what?
I do not think all game devs used to do was make a game then go smoke pot, (unless you count a college guy developing a minor release without ever having the hope of getting any return from it a game developer as, say, Nintendo)
I am pretty sure every significant game developer has or would have had loved for their game to sell well so they could get some monetary reward for their efforts
games are a business, and will always be this way
EA is one of the big ones I'm looking at here
Quotethey are just proving that they speak before they think.
how so?
they think can do whatever they want with the software they create, but they cannot stop piracy as it exists today
if they thought about this some more (or think before they speak), I am pretty sure their conclusion will remain the same
I do not understand your statement about this at all
QuoteAlso big time game devs can go suck a fat one because without reasons for why modding is a bad thing
I am sure they have their "reasons" which is why I am 100% sure if a service like this worked, they would be happy to not only get rid of piracy but also the annoyance of modding (in their eyes)
like I said before I am pretty sure they have had ample time to think this over
and more time to think would doubtfully change their opinion (I don't think it ever will - companies interested in money - businesses, will always be possessive of their work, keyword here: THEIR WORK)
the "big time game devs" in the end are the people who are producing the product, they are the content creator, and they are a business at the same time
without them, modern game development ceases to exist
and while it is fine to disagree with some of the things they think and do, it is pretentious and stupid to believe that the solution is simply for them to "go suck a fat one"
unless you are proposing your big time game development firm works for free and on top of that has zero authorship or property rights over 100% of the work they create
Look up the history of atari.
They developed games while high most of the time, unil they where bought out.

this is not sufficient to back up the claim that

Whatever that the 80's where still the good ol days.
Quote from: "ph33rb0t"Whatever that the 80's where still the good ol days.
Impossible! without OnLive they couldn't have been good at all!
o.O .......................I give you win.
ummmmm didn't they try something like this before? phantom was it?............ ill hafta look it up later just bought an 8 gig micro sd card for my cyclos ds and i hafta load all my stolen games i mean user created homebrew and freeware that completely obeys all laws
gojoe ur awsum
I remember when Bill Gates promised a system that would play Nintendo, Sega, and Sony system games. It turns out we got the Xbox; not bad, but not what he promised.

I SAID THIS IN THE THIRD FUCKING POST.
But no one really reads the posts around here, tithin. You should know that by now.
oh sorry i had my tithin filter on again
Why would you turn the tithin filter off?
there's a tithin filter these days?
success
Dude, back in the 80's, Atari was the ONLY developer

(aside from up and coming nintendo). I dont think sega genesis/master had even been conseived form the sweat on the Atari's plastic ballsack.
lol all joking aside though;
Comcast is incredibly stupid with plans taht dont involve businesses. Household comcast couldnt give a shit; i live 4 miles from the comcast building here in florida, and they say im to far out to get a proper connection. i even bought the 12mbit do it yerself setup...they didnt even come back to replace a cable they cut off mine to put in our neighbors cable.
Rage against comcast aside; this is the same for ALL ISP. given the oppurtunity, they will save what they can with bandwidth and storage space. As soon as the ISP realizes that the amount of bandwidth this thing will take from just 1, they will limit it. when everyone gets one, theyre going to either block it, or limit it to a 56k modem type speed. which will be awful for the bigger games.
To get the best of this, youd need your own, personal ISP.
TL;DR
Developrs make me mad. we should put them in our shoes, and make them play with the crap they put out nowadays(console and gamewise) so that THEIR eyes can bleed from the sub-par material they are pulling out of their shit holes.
/RAGEQUIT
I would be surprised if any game developer that made a crappy game didn't realize their game was crappy when it released.
As for consoles/hardware/ect, these are all conceived by committees of businesspeople, who hire people to lie to them about the viability and progress of their new product.
