Title: Generic Holy Knight
Post by: FFaddic on April 10, 2008, 12:25:53 am
This is my first attempt at making a custom sprite.  I just took the archer's head and put it on Delita's body to give myself a somewhat generic holy knight.

Criticism is welcome.  I had a tough time making some palette swaps and working on the portrait, mostly because the armor color uses the same colors as the hair.  Didn't think about that beforehand, heh.

It's really not that bad! Though.. I will admit it's a little.. uh, mishapened? I don't know if that's the right word. Only because that hairstyle just doesn't seem to fit, nor the shape of his head ... but! The fact that you were able to do that is pretty neat. ^_^

Yeah, I just took him for a test run... his arms aren't attached to his body half the time, damn.

what sprite did you save it over?

I suggest changing the palette, too.

Paladin Cecil Battle sprite style: Pale yellow armor, pale violet tunic with pale yellow trim, and violet hair.

Generic Paladin: Silvery armor, light blue tunic with gold trim, and blonde hair.

Looks pretty good FFaddic, it is interesting that no one else is really doing much with Delita's sprite right now. But you gave me some inspiration. Do note that you have some random pixels just setting around, but that doesn't really matter.

if the arms are out of place and you did not edit anythings location except the head then you might want to try saving the sprite over a different file, if u used a dupe sprite like one of alma/s or the dancer or the assassins then it would make perfect sense if the arms arent lined up.

I saved it over the mediator, hadn't tried any other sprites.  But that project is currently in hiatus now.  Now, I'm just playing with palette swapping.  MUCH easier :-p

well when you try to test it again, try it over somone like the common male squire or ramza and see if you get better results with the arms.

Well, I tried another shot.  Went a completely different direction this time.  Since I was replacing Mediator with my Holy Knight, I figured it best to try and keep the arms and body about the same so there's not as much awkward movement.  How do these look?  I tested them in game and they seem pretty decent so far.  I have a little bit more cleaning up to do with the female, though.

the fem is interesting, but they do seem to be decidedly lacking in the armor department, huh?

I don't plan on letting them equip heavy armor... they'll be powerful enough as it is... heh

When I looked at them again they really gave me the impression of a pair of scholars.

I really like the color of their robes, any chance of giving them brown hair though?

Hmm, your Holy Knight's look perfect for my Traveler class! Thank you very much!

That's what I wanted to do, but some of the colors are shared between robe and hair.  I can separate them, I'm just lazy right now.
