Title: FFT 1.3 AI Tourney
Post by: philsov on February 24, 2009, 07:08:00 pm
~

Matches and all further posts will only be occurring on the 1.3 forum:

This double posting business is crap :p

~

In the spirit of Argg0's abandoned project, I present a spinoff!

Rules:

1) Team will consist of 4 generic humans, level 35, leveled in their primary class.

2-) Brave ranging from 40 to 70, maximum brave on the team must be 240.

3-) Faith ranging from 40 to 70, minimum faith on the team must be 220.

4-) Each unit has 3400 JP to spend in various abilities. As in FFT, each unit cannot spend points toward an ability before filling Job level requirements for the prerequisite jobs. For example, a character could not buy speed break without allocating 350 JP to squire (to make knight accessible). Units are not required to spend the entire 3400.
4a) Elemental can be wholly purchased for 600 JP.

5-) Only two units on a team can buy any individual ability. So four units could have the Punch Art ability set but only two could have purchased Earth Slash. Innates do not count for that, so you can have two chemists and a Knight with Throw Item.
5a) Ninjas can only appear once per team.

6) Banned abilities -- Many Draw Outs and Planar Magics are banned via JP cap, but barring those:  Nameless Dance, Fire/Ice/Bolt4, Leviath/Bahamut/Cyclops, Meteor, Throw Katana/Knight Sword/Axe, Invite.

7) Equipment.  Limited to all purchaseables, minus Thief Hat.  Complete list is here:  http://project-yvalice.wikispaces.com/Tact_Equip_Check (http://project-yvalice.wikispaces.com/Tact_Equip_Check)  Just like abilities, there is a cap of 2 per any piece of equipment.  For those not versed in 1.3 item changes, check out:  http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1671 (http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1671)  Notably there are nice buffs to black hood/costume and light robe to take them over twist headband/power sleeve/black robe.

8] Item/Throw/Draw Out goodies will be 99 in quantity.  Including potions, so auto-potion will aptly be a 30 health recovery bit.  Clarity: Zero elixirs.

9) Map will be randomly selected from a large pool of maps -- namely the balanced ones which provide neither side with an advantage (goodbye Dorter 2!).
9a) Once a map is played through once, it will not appear again in the tourney.

10) Default AI will be set to Save Fading Life, which is the standard AI routine.  If you wish to have a unit set on run like rabbit the whole time, please make a note of it and for which unit when you submit.  Protect Allies is another option, and if you chose so specify which unit will be protected throughout the match.  Fight for Life is not an option, since it is enemy-dependant.

11) Best two out of three advances into the next round.
11a) Initial bracket placement will be randomized.

If you think you know a good setup, mail me at philsov@gmail.com, or drop a private message. Only one setup per person. Make sure to let me know what account is yours.

Weren't there AI restrictions or something in the last tournament? Some of them which require a target were banned IIRC.

Yes, and I've added rule 10 to clarify =D

Post by: FFMaster on February 24, 2009, 07:51:00 pm
So only "Save Fading Life" and "Run Like a Rabbit"?
Title:
Post by: philsov on February 24, 2009, 07:55:06 pm
Actually, I take that back.  New rule posted.

More questions(yay!)

Are monsters allowed?

The thought crossed my mind, but then I saw the mountain of stats I'd have to generate and cried, deciding to just stick with generics for this run.

Does "Throw Goodies" include only purchaseables?

I hope so, and assume so, but I want to make sure.

Edit: Can throw Rune Blade, but not Dragon Whisker, right?

Edit1: Female Squire MP is calculated much too high.

QuoteWhy is ignore height blank?

Because I fail at proofing.  500 JP, editted into the first post.

QuoteDoes "Throw Goodies" include only purchaseables?

Yup.

QuoteCan throw Rune Blade, but not Dragon Whisker, right?

Correct.  Poach-only equips are not counted as "purchaseables".

And female squire MP fixed.  good eye.

My team will be in shortly, I just have to re-do some things since I thought I only had 3400JP, not for each unit haha.

looks like a bulk of the entries have been submitted.  I'll be closing signups on friday, march 6th.  I've been glancing over most the teams as they've come in and replying if I'm catching something obvious (70+ br/fa values, e.g.), but I'll prolly sit down and do a proper JP/equipment check at that time.  If you haven't heard anything from me so far, you're in the clear =D

Edit:  Threw up 9a and 11a rule addendums.

Sent my entry in.
Yet to have played 1.3, so I doubt I will do all that well.

The videos are freaking awesome, great commentary. You totally need to post a pic of the tournament layout. Probably post the builds of everyone too so that we can all start laying bets on who will come out on top now ;). Then you could spend less time in your video explaining the builds too and just give your thoughts.

PS: So that it isn't given away who wins at the end after watching the first video and seeing that there are only 2 videos. I don't know if this is possible on youtube, but the GOMTV site that did the Starcraft tournament thing would post basically empty vids for a "Match 3" even if there wasn't one. Though on youtube I guess you could just look at the length of the video and figure out it was a standin....

The bracket (and most other discussion) has shifted over to the 1.3 forum (link in first post on this topic), though a posting of everyone's builds would be cool.

Though loading up a blank vid might be interesting... it's just as easy to fast forward to the endings and get the same deal.

cameron, hop over to the 1.3 forum.  the second season will be done in about two weeks, at which point we'll have another round of play and you'll be welcome to submit your team.
