Title: Help replacing sprites
Post by: Cottage Cheese on February 02, 2009, 05:33:46 pm
Okay, I'm ready (finally) to replace two sprites in the BATTLE folder with the Cloud and Aeris sprites. Which sprites do I replace, and what will the effects of it be?

Replace Guest version of Rafa(H79), and the Guest version of Mustadio (MUSU).

Sorry to go MIA on you I spazzed out and cleaned my entire house.

Ah! You're back! *glomp* I was so lost! ^_^

Once I do this, what next?

Open FFTPatcher. Go into the ENTD editor and assign what sprites Guest Mustadio and Rafa use, to their regular ones.

And assign the Guest Version Mustadio as Cloud's new sprite set.

It's not letting me select ENTD. It seems to be stuck on Abilities.

Did you select File > new PSP patch?

Oh. XP Sorry about that.

Okay, so I'm in FFTPatcher, and I've got ENTD up. What do I do now?

Find the battles where Mustadio and Rafa join as guest.

Castled City of Zaland through Goug Lowtown for Mustadio, change sprite set 22 to 16.
Walled City of Yardow through Riovanes Castle Gate for Rafa, change sprite set from 19 to 29.

So then, when I play through, when Mustadio and Rafa join I'll have Cloud and Aeris? Or will they just replace the two in my party? If so, no biggie, I don't use either of them anyway.

No the guest version is being replaced with the Sprite they use when you get Mustadio and Rafa, this way they DON'T look like Cloud or Aeris.

I'm not sure I understand... But anyway, what then?

Basically two sprite sets exist for Rafa and Mustadio. One is used for the Guest only which makes it basically completely unnecessary, by assigning new sprite sets to the Guest version you are freeing up an extra Battle Sprite to be used for your Cloud and Aeris.

However, you could just try replacing the Advent Children Cloud with the normal one and see if it works I think they are the same size.

I could, but I've heard from a lot of people that replacing the normal Cloud with anyone will freeze your game at the start screen... Never actually tried it though, myself.

I'd try, I think it's the same size. If it freezes, who cares.

Okay, now I have two questions, one not pertaining to the issue at hand. When I turn on my PSP and hold down the R Trigger, it's supposed to go into recovery mode, isn't it? Well, it's not working, for some reason. The other question is, once I replace the guest Mustadio and the guest Rafa, do I then rebuild the FFTpack.bin? Or is there another step?

:EDIT: Nevermind about the recovery mode thing, I got it working again XP.

You have to Turn it off, pull out the battery, put it back in, and Turn it back on while holding R Trigger some times.

No, you need to do the ENTD editing, unless you want to just replace the normal version of Rafa and Mustadio since you don't use them.

That would work. I don't use them at all. If I replaced the normal version of Rapha and Mustadio, would they still look like themselves in the party menu?
Title:

Yeah, you'd have to edit Unit.bin too.

And SentinalBlade's got a tutorial on that, so I think I can figure that one out. When I replace Rapha and Mustadio, now that we don't have to go through their guest versions, what do I do?

Repack fftpack.bin

And then I go on with whatever SB does in his tutorial to get them to appear in my party menu?

Yes, but you might want to create a class for them.

Hmm... Can I do that in Lioneditor, after I've fixed them all up? Or should I do that before?

EDIT: Also, in regards to your directions in the other post, how do you locate the fftpack.bin file in the .iso file using UMDGen?
Title:

Could you post a screen capture of what you .iso file looks like opened in UMDGEN?
Title:

Here's exactly what I'm doing:
1. I double-clicked UMD_v4.00.
2. A page comes up, underneath "Name" I double-click UMDGen.exe.
3. Once that opens up, I click "Open".
4. I open "ULUS-10297 (my PSP, it's in drive E) and open UMD9660.
5. I then click on various folders until I find fftpack.bin in the folder "USRDIR".

So, why are you having trouble with fftpack.bin?

Or, aren't you anymore?
Title:
Post by: Cottage Cheese on February 12, 2009, 10:33:02 pm
:( Well, I know I was having trouble SOMEWHERE... I just can't remember where, it's been so long XP. Okay, next I right click "fftpack.bin" and click "extract selected...". When the "Browse For Folder" page comes up, do I select my PSP's drive?
Title:
Post by: CidIII on February 13, 2009, 05:25:07 pm
No you extract it to a folder on your computer doesn't matter which one, not onto your PSP though.

yea I'm having a problem too... what exactly do you do after you extract the fftpack.bin...
Title:

You use the FFTPatcher to decompress fftpack.bin and it will then look like the psx version when you open it up with CDMage.
