Okay, I have yet another question about this whole process. I have two PSP's, one Slim and one Phat. The Slim is v 4.05, which virtually makes it unhackable. I just took a closer look at the Phat though, and the system software is 3.90 M33-2. Does that mean it's already got custom firmware on it?
Yes.
And, the Slim is still hackable as long as it doesn't have a certain motherboard.
Also, you could soft mod your battery and try to downgrade the PSP Slim.
Really? So I could hack the Phat?? And I tried to hard mod the Phat's battery, but I chickened out after a while.

I was working on it with a box cutter, watching YouTube vids, and people commenting kept saying their batteries popped and smoked and leaked gas.... *shudders* I panicked.
Your PSP Phat is already hacked.
Soft modding is easy, but is only possible if you already have a hacked PSP.
Just uses a program to make your battery into a Pandora's.
Okay, so to get the two aforementioned characters (AC Cloud and Aeris) into my game, all I have to do is follow the steps you gave me in the other topic?
I think so.
I made those instructions off the top of head, haven't hacked the WotL in a while.
Okay, I've got the files extracted, and I've got the two sprites downloaded into a separate file. How do I overwrite two existing sprite slots? The BATTLE folder in the extracted files is "Empty".
Hmm...Where did you get the .iso your using?
Are all the other folders empty?
Regardless, you could always use the new Shishi to directly patch the .iso
There is a device you can buy on line that can turn any official Sony PSP battery, Phat or Slim, into a pandora (service) battery. It's fairly cheap too. You can also go to your local Game Stop and and ask to borrow a Pandora battery for a few minutes while you mod your unit. The dudes there are usually pretty cool. ^_^
K, I've got another question. How, if possible, do I import the custom sprites on this site to Lioneditor?
You don't. Lioneditor is for saves only. You have to insert the sprites into the iso.
Darn

. So, how do I do that? Again, I'm sorry for all the obviously uneducated questions. I'm extremely stupid when it comes to things like this, and those who try to help me are forced to take baby steps when explaining things to me.
Hehe, do not worry about it, cheese.
honestly, i have a few conversations going on atm that are basically dealing with the same stuff you are.
Quick analysis is to;
Open UMDGen
Extract FFTPack.bin to a new Folder
Open FFTPatcher
At the top of the Patcher is a menu called PSP
click it and go to Utilities --> Extract FFTPack.Bin
Go to the folder you created for FFTPack.bin, and hopefully you will ahve extracted its contents into the same folder.
Take the sprite you want to replace, name it EXACTLY what the sprite that you want to replace name is.
MAKE SURE IT IS THE EXACT SAME FILE SIZE. more or less, most are 42 kb.
Copy it into the Sprite Directory, or the Battle Folder, if i remember right
we are finished with inserting hte sprite, now to rebuild FFTPack.bin
Simply go back to fftpatcher, then go to Utilities --> Rebuild FFTPack.bin
vwalah...lol
Hard part = over
Open up UMDGen and select fftpack.bin
Right click it --> insert new file.
Browse to your edited fftpack.bin
now just save the iso and your done

HINT; If you freeze at the squaresoft screen...you most likely replaced a sprite that isnt the same size...or you replaced cloud, cloud causes this bug almost no matter what....although i did find a fix for it a long time ago
Well geez guys, lets not let me be stupid
/sarcasm
Open shishi, and select ISO from the top of the program
Select PSP --> import sprites form ISO
Select your FFT:WOTL ISO
double click whatever sprite you want to replace
select SPR --> import SPR
browse to new sprite
select it. make sure it changed in the list of sprites in Shishi's main window
go to PSP --> Patch ISO with sprites
your done :3
Yeah, I am a bit of an ignoramous as well when it comes to this stuff, but I almost have it working!
TRUST ME
you are nowhere near as bad as some. at least your trying to learn it and catching on after one or two tries...
I had one kid, told me i was a prick cause i wouldnt attach FFTPatcher to a PM. After i had given him a direct link to it :/
I had another one want me to create a patch for him, cause he tried once and didnt like the look of FFTPatcher...
seriously, hackers are getting lazier with each generation. lol
I don't even have it working yet

. It took me two days to discover that one of my PSPs already had custom firmware on it!!
Okay, SentinalBlade, first question: what program am I supposed to open UMDGen with? I double click on it and it tells me "Windows cannot open this file" and asks me what program to open it with.
Yeah, we need to instell proper...I would say morals, but that would ruin the point. <dunce|XD
Quote from: "Cottage Cheese"I don't even have it working yet :)
*Sigh* I'm glad I have someone here to help me with this. I'm in the UMDGen program, but where do I find the file to extract it?
Opens up your FFT .ISO :3
In the left of the pane is an explorer... it should be in the main folder, but if its not, look around. i think the european version has a different directory structure than the US
If you can find it. close UMDGen and reopen it and repeat the process.. sometimes UMDGen doesnt recognize all the files are there at first.
Okay, I'm still in the UMDGen window, in the Explorer tab. Underneath Name, there is UMD_DATA.BIN (I'm running the US version, by the way). Am I on the right track?
hehe, near it. this is where you need to start looking for FFTpack.bin
just keep clicking on folders till you see it
Yes, you are!
Now click on the 'USRDIR' folder on the left hand side. AND, THERE'S fftpack.bin hopefully!
lol, now you can finally start getting to the fun stuff!
Folders on the left hand side? All I see is something that says "No Label".
Oh, and hi again, CidIII!
thanks cidIII been a bit since i did this for the PSP and i dont have a nicely ripped ISO >.<
Really, did you some how close your .ISO?
You should see 'SQ' right next to the UMD Icon.
Then 'PSP_GAME' click on the '+' to the left on that and it should reveal two more folders. 'SYSDIR', and 'USRDIR'.
Yeah, I was at a friends house this weekend
Hmmm.... I click on UMD_DATA.BIN, and it says "There is no program in your system associated to open this type of file"
Did I do something wrong?
You shouldn't have to click on UMD_DATA.BIN.
Here's a SS, showing what you "should" be seeing...
Lol, no cottage, sometimes UMDGen tries to be gay and open a file without you double clicking it

just close the dialog box and continue your work :3
*Lol "Yay!"*
Okay, lemme run through what I'm doing:
1. Open up UMDGen v4.00
2. Go to Tools
3. Hit Extract ISO Contents...
4. My Computer/Removable Disk (K:)/ISO
There's nothing in ISO besides VIDEO, and when I try to open ISO, nothing happens. I fooled around with UMDGen for a minute and hit the UMD Properties tab. Closer to the bottom of the screen, I see a box, General Information. In it, there's a button labeled "Generate". I hit it, and that's where I'm getting UMD_DATA.BIN in the explorer tab.
Well there's your problem...
Intro to .ISO Ripping off your PSP 101:
Turn on PSP, make sure game is in.
Hold select for 30 seconds and release while in Main Menu of the PSP (not the game).
M33 should pop up, Go down to USB Device and change it to UMD Disc.
Go to Exit after this.
Then connect PSP to computer through USB.
Go to my Computer open the USB Drive (H: drive is mine, whatever yours is do that one)
You should see a .ISO file in the Drive, copy and paste this to your desktop, and then open it with UMD Gen don't go to Tools or whatever your doing just file Open.
*Sigh* I know, I'm hopeless. *Shakes head*
Bump because I updated post.

And, actually this is probably good. The reason why you couldn't figure out how to get fftpack.bin was because the .ISO was ripped wrong.
Okay, I've got fftpack.bin up, it doesn't look EXACTLY the same as the SS you posted, but its here. Do I hit Extract to Specified Folder?
Yep, right click and 'Extract Selected...'
What do you mean it doesn't look the same?
Well, you know when you first open up UMDGen? It looks like that. Underneath the box with all the animations (Extract To, Find, etc..), there's another box titled Name. In it there are two folders, one labeled "..." and the other "movie". Underneath the latter is where my fftpack.bin is located. Is this wrong?
*shrugs*
If it works...
Okay, two questions. One, can I replace any sprites with the ones I want to add in, and how will that affect my saved game (how will I get the new characters, etc.), and Two, can I only add in one sprite at a time, or can I do more than one?
Can I make a Tutorial for dummies (like myself) on how to use Lioneditor?
I have thought it down to a few simple steps.
Hmm... I don't see why not. It'd probably be a pretty good asset to those new (like myself :(
My friend, I have no earthly idea how to go anywhere beyond my firstgrader level lioneditor.
I don't even know what UMDgen is... actually, I have been keeping up with this thread for more information! XD
Actually I just figured out lioneditor yesterday (with a mountain of help from sentinal blade i will say).
I've also been playing around with Lioneditor, and though it is complicated, it seems like fun

. And I as well only have a faint grasp at what it's all about... I need help every step of the way. I'm almost halfway through the entire process (I'm trying to patch Cloud and Aeris into WotL) and I'm stuck. Wonder if I oughta post a new forum...
Before you do anything else remember: Cloud will screw up your game. Bad stuff happens if you replace him. I dunno the extents of it, but I just don't touch him at all.
Yeah. I guess I could just replace someone else with him...? Have the Cloud from this site and just not go through the sidequest to get him? Although then I'll miss Reis, won't I? Hmm....
