Title: Custom sprites help: Do you have to overwrite?
Post by: rawrgodzilla on January 24, 2009, 04:47:50 pm
There are the custom sprites on the home page, but do you have to overwrite existing sprites in order to use them? Or can you make a whole other .SPR file for the game without replacing existing ones?

you must replace. however, Zodiac's sprite expansion patch gives you a separate sprite file for each and every job slot in the game. ^_^

depends on the sprite you wanna replace

there's always the option to revert to an old sprite, though

 so don't worry

no change is really permanent as long as you have an original FFT ISO around

Could you post a link to the thread with the expanded ISO? I saw the thread earlier but now I don't know where it is lol

Sorry. My wireless was acting like crap and it stayed on the "Post a reply" window, so I didn't know if it posted or not.

So I guess for replacing sprites, it'd be best if I replaced the 10-year old male, 20-year old male, etc., so then it wouldn't interfere with other job sprites?

Actually, with Zodiacs ppf files, all those sprite file sizes were increased, so that shouldn't be problem. Just remember those sprites are used in the game somewhere.

You should do it and tell us how it goes. =P

Wasn't sure how I would set the civilian sprites with another job so I replaced female Mediator sprites with Jenna from the custom sprites section on the homepage. Seems like the sprites don't want to change, though. I don't think I did anything wrong...

EDIT: Never mind. Worked when it went into battle. The custom .SPR files don't show up in the formation screen and job circle?
Also, two questions:
1. How do I set the civilian sprites for a character (10-year old boy, etc.)? I don't think they're associated with any job.
2. Unrelated to the current topic on hand, but how do I made a custom job?

The formation sprites and portraits are found in wldface.bin and unit.bin. You use a JP program to edit them. However, there are some limitations.

There's lots of info around the forums on this subject, so if that topic alone isn't enough pick through the threads.
