Poll
Question:
Should the numerical spells be changed to 'a', 'ra', 'ga', and 'ja'?
Option 1: Yes, change them to 'a', 'ra', 'ga' and 'ja'.
votes: 41
Option 2: No, keep them as they are ([Spell], [Spell] 2, [Spell] 3, [Spell 4]).
votes: 29
My vote's for keeping them as they are.
changing them would definately make the spells look better if you created skillsets that dont include all 3 or 4 of the set.
take FF9 for example
Beatrix had Cura and some sword skills but if it had been Cure 2 it would have bugged me that she didnt have Cure (lvl1) as well.... hey thats just one of my things..
I likes the numbers. It's a lot simpler to me and spell names like firaja and blizzaja just don't sound right.
And needsmorevoice did you actually vote? It should be 2-2 now.

I intended to, but for some reason, the poll's not showing for me. Mebbe if I switch to Internet Explorer...
EDIT: Yeah, that worked.
Blizzard, Blizzara, Blizzaga and Blizzaja just sounds better to me. As does Cure, Cura, Curaga and Curaja. The changing of the suffixes for each level makes each level sound more powerful than the one before it to me.
I prefer the numbers, because tactics has 4 tiers, instead of the usual 3, and -ja is to similar to -ga for me to redily distinguish between the two
If I'm not mistaken one of the other FF games had a 4th tier but i don't know which one..... by the way suffixes ftw.
keep as they are
square needs to learn a lesson
trashy gimmicks are trashy
haha. Voldemort that would solve my problem on how to properly label the earth and water spells
Lol eartha would just be too wierd.
Quakera sounds wierd....
waterga? hmm i know it was in ff9 but it sounds odd
Quakeja ........... sounds like a health condition.
in a way the new suffixes sound good but for some things it just seems odd.. im still considering the good and bad of both really
The suffixes sound cool but the numbers add security in not sounding too stupid what more do you need. In other words it's pretty mucha tie between the two.
ive considered also taking out the lvl4 names and giving those 4th tier spells unique names
something i've been considerign is actually having a split-tier for each element, consisting of single target and multi-target. Example
Fire: basic single target fire element spell, range 5, area 0
Fire 2: more powerful single target fire element spell, range 5, area 0
Flame: basic multi target fire element spell, slightly weaker then Fire, range 4, area 1
Flame 2: more powerful multi-target fire element spell, more powerful then Fire, but weaker then Fire 2, range 4, area 1
Melt: ultimate fire element spell, combines high damage with a large AoE, range 4, area 2
why even keep fire 1 /2 /3 /4 around?
just give them all different uses and rename them
(melt, burn, flare, blaze, pyre, inferno, ember, bla bla)
go nuts
would be better than fire 1 / 2 /3 /4
and definitely better than fire / fira / firaga / firaja
Yeah you could do fire slash
I agree with Voldemort7: Synoynms are your friends.
Synonyms are also your compatriots.
I know ra, ga, and ja are official, but I just don't think they fit the style of this game. Plus, Firaja just sounds dumb as hell. Pretty much any ja is gay in my book
^ I'm guessing you're not a fan of jack-in-the-boxes or Jamaica or Japan or the German language then. (Accursed page split.)
Also, pray to never meet up with Ja Rule. Rappers tend to...be homophobic.
(But, yeah, -ja suffix does sound stupid...as in stupid, not gay.)
Firaja is my favorite spell name.
Yes, gay as in Voldemort's "OMG that's fuckin gay" not as in I am homophobic or dislike gay people.
Numbers make me feel dumber. FFT: "This spell is Fire3. That makes it stronger than Fire2." Me: "Ooooooooohhhhhhh...! Whodda thunk it! Gee! I feel smarter already!

" So yes, I voted for the as and the kas and the jas. Jah, mon! I be keepin' real, ja hear?
One thing I don't like is that when casting a spell people say shit like "Destroyer of mother nature, come forth! Fire4!!" I mean, put a space between Fire and 4, at the very least, sounds better as "Destroyer of mother nature, come forth! Fireja!!".
Or you could just do what BoF series does and give them their own unique name, unlike Cure, Cure 2, Cure 3, Cure 3 you could have Recover, Replenish, Rejuvenate, Revitalize. Or better yet: Hwa, Ja, Hwaja, Uber Hwaja. I mean don't limit yourself to adding 2's and ja's to names, mix things up.

Bolt, Valhalla, Bolt II, Indignation! Yippy!
i really like the bof idea, for example in bof 3 there was...
Burn, Flare, Inferno, Simoon etc..
FIRE : Fire, Blaze, Inferno, Fire Storm!
ICE : Icicle, Frost, Blizzard, Glacier!
LIGHTNING : Zap, Bolt, Lightning, Storm!
CURE : Recover, Replenish, Rejuvenate, Revitalize!
I think we hit the jack-pot!
Maybe do a persona thing.
Fire tree equals - Agi, Agido, Agilao, Agidyne
Ice tree - Bufu, Bufudo, Bufugo, Bufudyne
etc.
welcome back 2 vagrant story!
Who the hell are you? I've never played Persona.
I spiced it up a bit with my post and who the hell are you anyway(no offense). And AD you need to get Persona 3 Fes.
ASL?
1337/M/Lurkmoar
I still like the Firaja.
Firaja!
What?
Firaja!
Huh?
Firaja! You know, Fire4...
Oooooh! You mean FIRE.
Ya! That's what I said! Firaja!
Sorry for the terrible Goldmember vs Dr. Evil bit there. I just couldn't help myself. Tight like a tigaja!
I know Persona 4 came out I just haven't gotten it yet. I imply no offense so you don't take it as one cause I know it can be misconstrued.

mmm I love goth lurker girls
A/S/L??????
please
FF1 used -a / -ga / -da as the naming standard despite recent translations. Some were wierd and added prefixes instead.
For example:
(These are exact translations)
Raise & Araise
Dia, Adia, Gadia, & Dadia.
Fire, Fia, & Figa.
Wow he's thirteen thirtyseven thats leet. Lol.
You could just take a, ga, ra, ja and combine them into one word and make that a separate spell and it would sound better
FEAR ARAGAJA!
Quote from: "darthpaul"If I'm not mistaken one of the other FF games had a 4th tier but i don't know which one..... by the way suffixes ftw.
It was FFXI The MMO, it actually has like 9 tiers, but they oly go through four tiers of names for each type of spell, and they use the numbers as well as the suffixes to name them since there are so freakin many spells
Thanks for that one Zuka. And Aragaja that could be the new flare. lulz
You know, considering that FFXII has a Super Fire Spell named Ardor, mebe an Ardora, Ardorga, Ardorja, and Ardoragaja, would be good names lol
Idea for a spell:
All-Ultimaragaja 4
Y = 255
MP = ∞
CT = lol
Idea for a farce:
Ex-wife and pompous ass burned alive.
hey guiz for 1.3 PSP Dominic was wondering what would be best for Zombie 2?
Zombira??
Reminds me of Vampirella.
What about Zombify? That's actually a real word.
Zombiga sounds better. Yes, it's only rank 2 but it's also the final rank.
Zombaga
Zombaja
if it has a cool effect file you could call it "overcast" like they did on ff6
Overcast = Zombie in FF6?
:O
well it was more like a target all dead units, and brought them all back as zombies, but zombies in ff6 are more similar to "blood suck" units in fft.....
which..... is a very very interesting idea..........
How about
Zombzilla!!!!!!
The terrifying undead creature that eats tokyo for no apparent reason
*Jaws music plays for no real reason*
I was going to call it Curse, but I think I'm going to go with Zombija. It fits in with the other level 2 spells in the set, which have -ja as their suffix.
sounds good
I think that both numbers at the end and the japanese-ish suffixes are silly, with the suffixes slightly worse because they're nonsensical without prior knowledge.
I'd stick with the original numbers for clarity and ease. But if someone wanted to "improve" the names I'd say they should trash both and come up with synonyms for each rank. Example:
Ice = Frost
Ice 2 = Ice
Ice 3 = Blizzard
Ice 4 = Deep Freeze
Ice 5 = Absolute 0.
You'd have clarity with implied strengths within the names. You wouldn't have the ridiculous sounding numbers, or the nonsensical suffixes.
But that's just my opinion.
The DragonQuest spell names make more sense for their tier progression (most of them are increasing onomatopoeia), but they have their own brand of silly. I'm not sure anyone would prefer it, but it is a potential compromise. (Not my first choice either.)
I liked the "ra, ga, ja" practice, it made it actually feel sort of... magical, unlike the others which were just plain words.
me too LD, i used to be annoyed by it. but when i look at it from a different view.
think of Beatrix for example who in ff9 only has Cura
it seems odd to have Cure 2 but not the one that comes before it in the set.. but change it to Cura and it could stand alone more.. plus it just looks cleaner then tacking on a number at the end..
