You've got to be more specific about what you don't understand. Where are you getting stuck? What problems are you having?

I see. Your problem is your choice of sprites. There are only a hand full of sprites that can be manipulated to work as new party members. Formation sprite assignments can't be changed yet.

You can edit these and change their Formation sprite without messing up any other characters too much:

1 - Simon, SIMON.SPR, uses Simon's formation sprite.
(You'll want to move Simon's sprite to a new file like Kasanek and change his sprite assignment in the ENTD. This way Simon won't show up as your new character.)

2 - Malak, GANDO.SPR, uses 'old priest' formation sprite.

3 - Alma, GYUMU.SPR, uses 'young priest' formation sprite.

4 - Balmafra, BARU.SPR, uses Balmafra's formation sprite.
(you'll need to move it to a new .SPR file like with Simon.)

If you use Zodiac's sprite Expansion patch you can use this one, too.

5 - Tietra, FURAIA.SPR, uses 'mage girl' formation sprite.
(needs to be moved & reassigned, too.)

Do you mean in the formation screen or in the pre-battle screen?

You mean on the formation screen on the world map? Well, sure, you can change those if you wanted to. However, not every single character has a formation sprite. Wiegraf, Vormav, and a whole bunch of others don't have formation sprites in unit.bin.

If you're adding a new character to your game that you can recruit, then you need to replace someone who has a formation sprite (which means another character has to disappear), or do what Vanya said.

There is a Japanese program that edits Unit.bin, I'm not sure if the new Shishi's does it.

Shishi can, but it doesn't display the name of the file so you have to type it.

the jap program is much more user friendly since that is its primary use.

btw if you dont intend to use balmafula, Wiegraf number 2 is also linked to her menu sprite and portrait as well.

Yes. That's the formation screen. You can't have Delita as is you have to make a new one out of one of the sprites I mentioned. We can't change the assignment of formation sprites or portraits yet.

What's the name of the Japanese program? Shishi's being stubborn and won't let me open UNIT.BIN.

edit; forget it - I'm good.

Okay, I'm Stuck BIG TIME.... I would like to change Ramza to Ovelia in all the Ramza sprites, and have RAMUZA3.SPR to replace Ovelia's battle sprite, for a project that I have. But in Shishi, I cant open the SPR files because it says it could not open file! what am I doing wrong? I extracted them all to a privat folder from the BATTLE folder with CDMage... is there something I'm forgetting? This is vital to my project.

What ShiShi are you using?

If you click on all the top menu tabs, and one option is to "open ISO" or something like that, you are using the ShiShi Sprite Manager.  That won't do.

If you download an older version of melonhead's patcher, you should get the Sprite Editor, which opens any .SPR or .SPR2 file.

I don't know much about spriting either, but you might want to try that until better help comes this way.

your going to encounter another problem when you notice her arms not connected to her body in battle.

you will also have to hex edit ramza's slot to a type2 sprite since shes a type 2
