You guys ever notice how the portraits' colors almost never match the colors used in their sprites?
I'm going to fix that for my hack. However, how should I go about it?
It seems to me like portrait colors are a little more washed out and sprite colors are more vibrant, does this sound more or less right?
If so, I'd personally rather have the sprites better match the colors of the portraits, as I think portrait colors are generally a little more realistic. Then again, it's often difficult to tell between the palettes of certain units, and I think the Hokuten in particular would be even less distinct from Ramza's little guerrilla army, so do what you think would be best.
Oh about adding an option to leave it as is? I feel like this design choice was done for a reason.
the portraits are bigger allowing for a more accurate level of detail and shading that you cant really do to a sprite because its so tiny, i'de just leave it as it is
i cant believe i just formed a cohesive sentence on this site, i gotta get back to the spam section before i start to bleed out
Often the colors are completely different. Using similar shades in both is easy and usually looks better.
For example, Agrias is blonde in her portrait, but her sprite is a red-head.
Honestly her sprite is pretty blonde to me.
i donno, except for the obviously wrong color with Aliste
most sprites/portrait combo's look fine
the portraits all fit a washed out scheme but its still obvious that they belong to the sprites they represent... if u had another option id say dont change

Put her next to Weigraf, Algus, Mutadio, or even Dycedarg and then tell me she doesn't look at least strawberry blonde. And her portrait has waaay lighter hair.

Yeah, she is strawberry blonde. But that's
blonde, not red. Nice work contradicting yourself. :P
Strawberry blonde =/= blonde.
'Strawbery blonde' is between 'blonde' and 'red', which is why it's called 'strawberry blonde' and not 'blond'.
If you want to get precise, Agrias' portrait has light blonde hair and her sprite has light orange hair like a real carrot-top.
Islude's portrait has grey-brown hair and his sprite has brown hair.
All of Delita's portraits have dark brown hair, but his sprites all have reddish-brown hair.
The point is that the color in the portraits do not match the sprites. If the differences were uniform from character to character I wouldn't mind and say they represent paintings. However, they aren't even close to uniform. Most characters portraits have completely different shades of color that aren't even close to present in the sprite and vice versa. Like most games the character designer and the sprite artist(s) are not the same person and it is plainly obvious here as it was in most earlier Final Fantasies. I've always hated that. This case is fairly easy to fix though.
-_-
Well if you really want to do it I would recommend having the sprites changed to match the portraits.
And Vanya is right about Agrias' hair, it has an odd red tinge for the sprite.
The female Knights are even funkier. ^_^
