Title: Forgive me but I'm totally stumped!
Post by: Ladon on November 28, 2008, 11:40:44 pm
Okay so I have NO idea what I'm doing, I've been trying this for around 4hours. I was able to make a ISO file and I'm pretty sure I patched it right, but whenever I try to start the game it's just black screen, I'm using ePSXe emulator also. Any help would be appreciated. x_x *Not a computer person*

Edit: Whenever I think I do extract it and make an ISO all the folders like battle and crap are all empty someone help. ;o;

Try a different emulator. ePSXe is great but it is pretty complicated.

I can't even get to the emulator though, whenever I try to make the ISO it doesn't come out right. x_x

...oh so you are saying that when you try to patch it you get a blank screen?

Did you get a Clean ISO?  Did you use PPF-O-Matic to apply the patch to the CLEAN ISO?  And do you have a Bios file for your emulator?  And did you run the ISO using "Run ISO" button in the emulator?  What about graphics, do you have a compatible Graphics Card or do you maybe have no graphics output due to some setting?

I think I'm gonna have to go and download a ISO because I don't have the knowledge to rip one. Whenever I tried to run the Emulator I used the run ISO option but all it was, was a black screen with nothing and I think it's because when I tried to rip FFT it didn't do it right. =/

EDIT: Also when I like try to make a ISO it's only 69mb, shouldn't it be bigger? Also most of the folders like dummy, event, effect and world have NOTHING in them. Battle, Open, and sound have some stuff in them and IDK it's very confusing. x-x

You need specific software usually to rip an ISO correctly. Your best bet is to find somewhere to download it from. I would recommend searching for Final Fantasy Tactics ISO/Rom, or use a bittorrent.

1) Install ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download)
2) Launch ImgBurn
3) Click "Create image file from disc"
4) Select the drive that contains your FFT CD in the "Source" box
5) Select where you want to save the ISO image in the "Destination" box. You'll need about 516MB free on the hard drive.
6) If you click the the little disc with the question mark, it should show you some information about the disc. Make sure that "Volume Label", "Total Time", and the disc layout match what's in this screenshot:
7) Close the info screen by clicking "OK"
8) Click the big button circled:

9) It will start ripping:

10) You're done. It also made a FINALFANTASYTACTICS.CUE file for you in the same place the .BIN was saved.

It didn't work, but thanks anyways Melon, I think it's the disc. I'm DLing it right now. >_> Just to be sure it's a RAR and the size is 198MB is that right? =/ I tried it on another Computer it didn't work either I also tried cleaning it so I'm 99% sure the disc is the problem.

Whooo got it to download and patch, it's working but it's really laggy on ePSXe so I'm gonna try it on a different emulator.

if it's patched properly it won't slow down any emulator

check the emulator settings

Unless you have a good computer, using the software renderer on ePSXe can cause the kinds of lag you're experiencing. Not sure if you're using that though. And the game looks horrible on any of the hardware renderers (some people disagree, but most of those people either haven't seen how the game *should* look, or like ePSXe too much to care), so pSX was indeed your best bet.

And for future reference, don't use ImgBurn to rip most other PS1 games. It's a great program and I use it for most of my ripping/burning needs, but when it comes to PS1 games, many of them won't run properly without their subcode data, which CUE/BIN doesn't support (and ImgBurn has no subcode ripping capabilities, oddly enough). Works well enough on games like FFT and ToP, so his advice was fine in this case... I'm just referring to if you end up ripping other PS1 games. Some emulators like ePSXe don't need that data, but pSX does in some cases.
